GREAT experience here seeing Cabaret. The theatre has an awesome 360 degree view of the stage so no bad seats in the house. Definitely worth going to the show early to see the pre show stuff and visit the couple of bars inside before the show. No spoilers here but atmosphere and ambiance you feel like you are in a 1940s club. No photos allowed once inside. Would definitely see a show again.

Stickers went over our phones so no one could photograph indoors, it's surely an experience

I'm rarely left speechless but this production of Cabaret will take many of the words right out of your mouth. Escape into the the fully immersive Kit Kat Club. Stickers went over our phones the moment we arrived so we couldn't capture anything inside. This is a London theatre experience to the fullest. We were given a shot of what I think was Schnapps upon entering the club. I don't ask questions I just drink and smoke things which I probably shouldn't be doing (roadside shisha in Luxor, who knows what at many concerts) but hey! I'm still here but ya'll be safe out there. I know I can't do that just anywhere anymore. This felt safe enough ;) The theatre is gorgeous, the stage, costumes, band, cast all worth the money you'll spend on seats. I will admit I'm not certain if I've ever seen Cabaret and I've seen nearly everything at least a half dozen times so when the content switched up I was a bit caught off guard, as were many audience members who may have been Cabaret virgins like me. Keep in mind if you haven't seen this production prior it's set in Germany and it goes there. Visiting during everything that's happening in the world, it definitely startled some with everything that's happened in Israel. All that aside I was here for a production and a production I got. It was outstanding in every aspect. I tried describing it to my son later, and used words like gritty (if you've been to Germany you know that's an accurate description of some parts, gritty in a good Berlin way), I think they were also actually smoking and drinking during the production so the theatre smelled of smoke at times. It's definitely a very very immersive production, one I think you must see if in town. I'd definitely add some lighter razzle dazzle shows to the mix but if you want to do it up big this may be a good choice - if you aren't into the not so underlined subject matter and just want something all together lighter, less gritty and just a ton of laughs and fun- I'd say possibly skip as this may not be for you. I was so happy to have incorporated it into our theatre plans. Fun time! Not a bad seat in the place since the stage is round and seating is basically 360. Tons of champagne flowing, vegan mint chip ice-cream for intermission, pre show is great. You will be transported.

Great venue right next to embankment station and close to many restaurants such as the historic Gordon's wine bar. The theater itself is cozy, with excellent sightlines and sound. Productions are first rate. Saw "The Jungle" where the theater was turned into a refugee camp, and "Caroline or change," a stunning musical. Entirely different shows but the theater handled both perfectly.

Had the pleasure of attending London's Playhouse Theatre to see the award-winning screenplay, 1984. Back for a limited time and honored I had the opportunity to enjoy it at such a nice venue. The outside lights were shining bright with a sign tailored in the show's namesake. The interior was cozy, filled with comfortable seating & great views. Staff was pleasant; accommodating and friendly. There are services available from your seat so you don't miss any of the show. Concessions are also an option prior to seating but be mindful that some items will sell out. There were no popcorn or nuts available just before my evening show time at 7:30pm (bummer). This along with the fact that there are no cup holders and drinks must sit on the floor cost the theatre 2 stars. They do have binoculars available on the back of each seat...for a nominal fee of course. Keep a few loose pounds on you. ~Christy

I'm rather surprised to discover that I've been to this theatre twice, once to see Spamalot, and the second time to see 1984. It seems to be one of those theatres that sits just outside of Theatreland, just under the railbridge that heads into Charring Cross Station. It's a nice theatre, and the staff are quite friendly as well, though I note that they prefer that we use card as opposed to paying by cash (I had some concerns with the integrity of my card the last time I was in London so I basically withdrew all of my money and paid for everything with cash). The plays that I saw here were okay, though seeing a live action version of 1984 was quite interesting.

Somewhat away from most of the major West End theatres, The Playhouse is situated on a nice stop at the end of Northumberland Avenue on the Thames Embankment. For a while it was home to the BBC, who recorded live shows here. It returned to being a fully functioning theatre in 1987. The theatre has a seating capacity of almost 800 seats. I have seen many productions here over the years. I've sat in the circle and stalls, where the view of the stage is easily visible from any seats. They are comfortble and seem to have more leg room than some of the other older venues in the West End. The foyer is quite spacious, with the box office se well away from the bar area, towards the entrnce to the theatre. Like most theatres, the drinks are overpriced. There are plenty of good pubs close by, so I would recommend stopping close by for a drink prior to the show. The theatre is right nex to the Embankment Underground station, so is very handy when making a quick exit after a show. It is also just a short walk to Charing Cross Station. I consider the Plyhouse to be one of the nicer London theatre, and always enjoy coming here to see productions. It has a really nice auditorium and retains an intimate atmosphere, which helps in enjoying a preformance.

I came for a unique show, the Jungle, where the audience is on the stage. The show itself was fantastic. The acting was great and the story was gripping, based on true events. The venue itself was a typical theater. A little warmer than you'd like and tight spaces walking through crowds of people. But overall very nice and being next to the station is s plus!

Interval time at an amazingly beautiful ornate Theatre

Came here to see Lord of the Dance the other night. A very ornate theatre with slightly wider than normal seats which was a nice treat. Sound, lighting and ventilation were great. The only thing that wasn't great was that everyone had a bag search when they went in. I don't know if this is a normal thing or not, or if it was down to tightened security in London over the New Year's Eve celebrations.

In this case, the show aged well, and the props and costumes have clearly had time and money invested as this was the best rendition of Phantom I've seen to date. There was fire, light effects, great structures and hidden trapdoors, fake balconies, even a mysterious Houdini chair (no spoilers) and the production of Phantom here is clearly worth the full house it had tonight. Standing ovation at the end and tons of fun souvenirs to takeaway memories of the show. I sat in A21, center of the front row of balcony, and the view was perfect, showing just the bottom of the stage up. If I leaned forward, I could see into the pit which the ground floor seats could not. All the music was played by the incredible orchestra in the pit, Four private boxes at the front sides were filled with two persons each, which could be a fun return trip. I hope to definitely be back for another viewing some day. Incredible!

His Majesty's…read moreTheatre is a historic West End theatre located at 57 Haymarket, London SW1Y 4QL, best known as the long-time home of the musical The Phantom of the Opera. The theatre's name changes with the gender of the reigning monarch, reverting to His Majesty's Theatre in May 2023 following the accession of King Charles III. The history of His Majesty's Theatre has a rich tale spanning over 300 years and four different buildings on the same Haymarket site in London's West End. It is one of the few theatres whose name changes with the gender of the reigning British monarch. First Theatre (1705-1789): Opened as the Queen's Theatre in April 1705 by architect and playwright John Vanbrugh during the reign of Queen Anne. Due to licensing laws, it quickly became an opera house, and George Frideric Handel premiered over 25 of his operas there. Upon the accession of George I in 1714, it was renamed the King's Theatre. This building was destroyed by a fire in 1789. Second Theatre (1791-1867): A new, larger theatre, also known as the King's Theatre, opened in 1791. It hosted London premieres of operas by Mozart and Beethoven, and in the mid-19th century became renowned for romantic ballet, with famous ballerinas performing the works of Jules Perrot. When Queen Victoria ascended the throne in 1837, it was renamed Her Majesty's Italian Opera House (later just Her Majesty's Theatre). This building also fell victim to fire in 1867. Third Theatre (1868-1896): A third structure was built within the shell of the old one in 1868. After remaining dark for several years due to a rent dispute, it was used for a period by a Christian revivalist movement before returning to theatrical use, hosting the first complete English performance of Wagner's Ring cycle and appearances by Sarah Bernhardt. It was eventually demolished in 1892 as it had become technically outmoded. Fourth (Current) Theatre (1897-present): The current French Renaissance-style building was commissioned by actor-manager Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree and opened on April 28, 1897, as Her Majesty's Theatre. Tree produced spectacular Shakespearean plays and literary adaptations and even established the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in an apartment he built for himself in the theatre's dome. The current theatre is very well organized. The audience was very respectful during the show and did not seem overly crowded. However, you should be aware the restroom facilities are very small (remember, it's an old building) so plan accordingly! We both look forward to to going back when we return to London!

I was so excited to be there for one of the previews of 'Other Desert Cities' and curious as to how that would work with the theatre having just been reconfigured to 'in the round'. It actually worked very well, and while we in the upper level, I can imagine it would be particularly interesting to be in the seats that were vitrually part of the set. I think I spied Melvin Bragg Down there. Who-ever it was he seemed to enjoy the show as much as us. OK perhaps it wasn't what I would call must-see theatre but it had a little something for everyone, and despite its dark nature in places, we had plenty of knowing belly laughs too. Since press night its been garnering a solid four stars. Perhaps because the show was in preview we were able to bag reasonably priced tickets at the box office direct. The staff were very friendly and helpful when we popped in the day before to check on availability. If there was a down-side it was that the seats were uncomfortable and the leg room very cramped, and thats coming from someone who is just 5ft & 2 inches! My companion had another foot on me and found the cramped seating a distraction from the show. Perhaps the more expensive seats are more comfortable. Wish everywhere had seats as cosy and roomy as The National Theatre! Conveniently located just along the road from Waterloo station for tube, rail and taxis.

We had an amazing time, but my god this place sticks to the 'original' Alice = totally mind altering! Located in Waterloo Vaults, you first enter into a bar and merchandise area, at which point you're asked to check your coat and bag in. There is a bar available but, having been to Cubana for a happy hour cocktail beforehand, we were just ready to get started. This is also the opportunity to pre-order your drinks for the Mad Hatter's Tea Party if you so wish - white or red wine, or a gin and cucumber cocktail at £5 a pop. The experience itself is hard to describe, partly because there's just so much going on your brain can hardly comprehend and partly because I don't want to ruin anything for those who want to attend in the near future. Four different stories unfold alongside one another, culminating in a huge court scene with the ferocious queen and interspersed with all the well known characters. The Mad Hatter's Tea Party was a personal favourite (and not just for the opportunity to sit down!) - the characters are all very well played, the right balance between scary and comfortingly familiar. Plus the look on people's faces when the scene begins again is something of a picture...worth swotting up if you want to know what's to come! The final bar is where you can revel in the success of escaping this twisting world, with a brilliant little band, bar and hot food available. There's a maze and some flamingo croquet for activities, and plenty of alcohol available. You can re-enter this area throughout its run this summer with your SUIT card, issued earlier in the evening, and worth visiting if you know someone who possess something so powerful. Why four stars? Giving in our bags as recommended rendered us purse-less, so that last area was a bit of a let down - once you exit, there's no re-entry on the day, so it was a quick nose around and then out again. Coming out at £50 a ticket, you'd also think that perhaps that the tea party drink could be on the house. Whether you go for 'eat me' or 'drink me', I recommend the Alice's Adventures Underground Experience. Just, please, don't eat the jam tarts!

There were cafeterias on both floors (stalls and circle), but we had just had dinner before the show, so we didn't brave the crowds milling around to check it out. They do have a lift for the disabled to use, so access is not an issue, even though the elevator is very slow.
