Unfortunately, this place is dirty, food is average and is way overpriced. $3.75 for soda and most menu items are $20-$35. We spent over $70 ordering modestly for our family of 4, including two young kids... no appetizer, no dessert. An example of how ridiculous the pricing is: a hamburger is roughly $10. If you want to make it "deluxe" that'll be $8 extra for fries, a small thing with coleslaw and lettuce/tomato. Paying by credit card? They'll pass the transaction fee on to you. I think a place like this knows you won't get up and leave once you look at the menu and see the prices, which is why they get away with this kind of behavior. For a rainy day, comfort food was calling and Plaza D. on Main St in New Paltz took care of that. This diner has the typical old diner combination of booths, tables in the center of the room and a long sit-down counter. The words "mozzarella grilled cheese" plus "tomatoes" might not get you excited but, I'm a fan of that combo. I also ordered a Vanilla Egg Cream. I mean- it's a diner classic for good reason. My grilled cheese.+van. egg cream turned out to be the perfect pairing. A grilled cheese might be basic, have burnt bread slices and gets soggy quick, but Plaza's version oozed like nobody's business. The egg cream was another major hit. The milk+seltzer +vanilla syrup all mingled flawlessly. What's more, all the ingredients were perfectly chilled. Wanted to give this diner a try since it was nearby the charger and we were hungry after a long hike. The moment we walked in, you could tell the restaurant was understaffed. We stood there for a while before being told we could sit anywhere. Once we sat down, we didn't get menus until a few minutes later. It took a while for someone to come and take our orders. Our waitress was nice, but she ultimately ended up waiting all the tables so wait times were longer. Kudos to her for running the entire diner herself. I ordered a cheeseburger deluxe, but I don't think it's worth $15 as it was bland and was a smaller portion than I had expected. The decor and ambiance is very much 1980's with the wood veneer tables and glass dessert case. And it is fairly quiet. The service was great. The server who helped us had such a great vibe and a funny, dry sense of humor. She was so personable and made it a very pleasant experience. The food was amazing. Classic diner food done VERY well. Went for dinner after a basketball ball game at SUNY NewPaltz about 7:30 pm Handicap entrance is around back making it extra hard to get to the dining area. Food service was not the best had a difficult time just getting water. My friends ordered eggs they came cold and barely edible, and the cheeseburger was a frozen patty his barley soup was cool and sent back my wife order was okay my order a cup (not very much) of soup was not hot and sent back, fish and chips seemed okay until about 3 hrs later when I became confined to the bathroom with minor stomach issues. Sometimes you just need a diner meal. For instance, if you spent the previous night at a concert upstate with some high school friends, drinking and bullshitting and sitting around a fire and definitely not sleeping when you should've been, a diner breakfast is sometimes the only way to feel human. The Plaza has been here forever, and they know their business. They serve the staples well. For me, I always go with either (1) the scallops or (2) the two egg breakfast, with toast, potatoes, and a side of corned beef hash. (That's technically true, because I always get breakfast. Don't ever get scallops at a diner, you psycho.) The corned beef hash here is surprisingly not of the canned variety. I think they legitimately make it themselves, and it's damn good, especially with two runny eggs on top. The waitress was prescient enough to bring us some hot sauce without us asking, and it wasn't even tabasco (Frank's is far superior...really every hot sauce is superior to tabasco). This past visit, my buddy asked for cheese melted on top of his potatoes, and I can report that's a good move. An order of table pancakes never hurt anyone either. read more

Have eaten here a fair amount of times because they host the charge station. The two staff members were the only people in the diner and immediately accosted me about being required to buy things to step foot inside. Felt like I was being asked to leave so I left. We began our day in the Catskills with breakfast at the Plaza Diner. This restaurant has been around for 52 years and I'm sure I've been here a time or two over the years. This is your classic type diner. Large menu, lots of choices. For breakfast I went with the always safe challah French Toast. It was fine as was everyone else's meals. Didn't come with bacon and I ordered a side of bacon. The waitress was friendly and she was attentive. The food came out relatively quickly. The toast was good and the eggs kind of bland The hashbrowns were a little soggy and could've been tastier and crispier. The bacon was good. But I only got three strips for three dollars. Recently when seeing a movie in rosendale - we wanted something to eat afterwards but not much was open so we ordered two Tuna Melts with added bacon to pick up. The food was fine although the bacon was not cooked fully which was concerning since it was $5 to add onto an already $16 dollar tuna melt. I was shocked by how expensive the meal was at a diner. The service was awkward at best but I can understand someone working later at night not wanting to be there. The vibes were definitely odd though when walking in to pick up. It felt dystopian. My daughter goes to school here, I find myself around the area for work a lot and meet her for breakfast at this diner. I love it. They are fast, they are accurate, and the food is good. Have been going skiing every weekend and stopping at a Tesla charging station which is right in front of this diner. Since it takes 20-25 min, we always come in for food and coffee. Quality of food is way below average. Simple cup of black coffee is $4.50. Due to lack of other options, we sill continued to come back. Always very patient with poor service and tip well. Today we came here again but only to charge. Knowing that on the way back we will be here again. However, when I went in and Asked to use "the facilities", very unpleasant lady said NO. "Buy coffee or no bathroom". If this was a very busy NYC street, I could understand. But this place is in the middle of nowhere with barely any patrons in the establishment.
