They were even helpful enough to give us a whole thing of vinegar since it was complicated to know who wanted salt and vinegar, just salt, just vinegar and so on! While we don't visit Taunton very often, there's a reason this place has a line out of the door on Tuesday lunchtimes! Very friendly, attentive, and many of our family having the fish especially said it was the best fish, they've ever had from a fish and chip shop! Very impressive report from some highly critical members who know their fish and chip shops well. Definitely recommended if you are in the area!

It is a tiny fish and chip shop which is always busy . Forget the line of people outside waiting for their dinner/tea as it is dealt with quickly and efficiently by the friendly and happy staff serving behind the counters. They sell good portions of cod and chips as well as pies and chickens and burgers and curry sauce as well as pickled onions, pickled eggs and gherkins. Reasonable prices, open lunch and evenings. Great takeaway in the centre of town.

Part of that is Howard's chip shop. I think (and I might be wrong) that I went to college with the original? owners daughter. Anyway, as the saying goes you should never go back. Should have taken the advice. It wasn't the worst portion of chips I've ever had (that accolade goes to a place in Sunderland) but it came in a very solid second. Mushy, greasy, tasteless...... get the picture? Portion size was adequate, just! but have to give the fryer 10/10 for cheek charging £1.70. Covent Garden charge £2 and you get twice the amount of (edible) chips. Possibly this par for the course in Taunton but they'd last 5 seconds in London. As I said shouldn't have gone back! Sad sad sad :(

When I queried my change the women made a joke of forgetting the £5 note. This is the oldest con in the book and very sad that counter staff try it on to local people. Best bit is I think she under charged me by about £3 when I got home and added it up. Perhaps they ought to try and charge properly rather than conning honest people, better luck with your next customers now everyone knows your con.
