Pricey specialty grocer. They have excellent quality produce and some really nice, albeit expensive, prepared foods. They also have an exceptional wine selection. They also carry baked goods and various other prepared foods from local businesses like Zingerman's and Avalon. They do $6 sushi rolls after 8pm every night as well as some excellent deals on baked goods (50% off). The sushi is usually $11-15 a roll so the discount is great. It's not the best sushi in the world but it's very good for grocery quality. Otherwise, they (unsurprisingly) mostly carry organic and small-business brands. They have good sales sometimes but even then you can expect prices to be about 25% higher than what you'd see at a "normal" grocery store. Overall it's a fun place to go if you want high quality products but it's not really a feasible substitute for everyday shopping due to the prices. Will go back for the sushi at a minimum! read more

I used to come here several times a while back when a friend used to live in the area. It was always my friend's go to for all prepared and mostly prepared foods. It is off Plymouth and right off of 23, so it was super convenient to hit up on the way to my friend's house. It's a bit pricey, but you would expect for a smaller specialty store than a big box store. Before going to this market I used to think my friend was a decent cook and then I was able to see how the food was always prepared and packaged perfectly to go right onto a sheet for the oven. The food quality of the salmon or chicken or whatever was always good. Makes for a good appearance of a good cook to even the most basic of cooks (Nuke kings and queens). read more

They have some crazy clearance sale an all these housewives run in. Like literally. I have no clue what is going on til a guy hanging out told me. Plum has delicious roasted chicken but only if you can actually get one. I have gone there twice, second time even called ahead of time to be sure they had some, and when I arrived 15 minutes later, they had none. You cannot order one in advance. I figured I would grab a quick lunch on my way home from work. Stopped in, which I've done before and thought I would see how their hot case is doing since the Covid transition. Everything is prepackaged now, which doesn't bother me. I purchased a personal portion of macaroni and cheese, and a slice of pepperoni pizza. Couple of bottled waters and I was out the door. The macaroni and cheese didn't have any dates or times written on the box as to either when it was put out or when it needed to be polled. The macaroni was extremely dry, the topping tasted burnt sitting on the hotplate for far too long, and there were several, several hard pieces of macaroni that were just inedible. I tried the pepperoni pizza and it tasted as if they didn't have the hot plate underneath it on. The top portion was mildly warm but the bottom was colder than the surface. I remember I had the same pizza a few months back in the same condition and chose not to consume it as that prior slice had made me sick. The only thing that was tolerable and enjoyable about the entire meal was the bottled water and Faygo red pop that I had purchased. Essentially my lunch was tossed into the garbage. But not before I could take pictures of the inedible products. On every one of those boxes should be a placed on it a "pull by" or "put out on" by date and time indicate when the product is of less than suitable quality. I think I will stick with Plum market being my go to store for hard to find items I cannot get in my normal grocer. read more

I never seen the market before and I found it quiet interesting. It remind me of whole foods which is in California. I was in the area and decided to walk in and see. It looked so cute from the outside and fancy at the same time. I was right , it's fancy for sure. I fell in love when I saw the $10 cherries, I knew it was going to be the top of the line fruit. They have a wine part that looks like something you would see in the movies, you the when the actor/actress are walking in the store and the store is amazing and you think this store can't be real, it's real ladies and gentlemen. The people are super helpful and nice. They have a chip isle with no chips you would recognize ie Doritos, Cheetos etc. they have all the health chips and snacks. Their cheese area is crazy amazing, if I could I would taste everything lol. The butcher part is something to see too right along with the area you can buy hot food. Great market! They have a little bit of everything. The offer a nice size selection of wine, beer, and spirits. From local drinks to commercial there's options for everyone. What I really love about this market is the food bar. I really enjoy that they have healthy options. Not only do they have healthy options, but they also have chicken fingers, pizza, and sandwiches. They have vegetarian and vegan options too! Once you grab your take out, you pay at the register. There's a small eating area towards the right side of the register and some tables outside. This Plum Market is not the one closest to my house so I'm not popping in regularly but if I'm passing by I've stopped in for a coffee from the coffee bar or a quick grocery or prepared food run and it's always been great. It's a newer build out and a bit smaller than the one on the west side, I think, but still a really good selection. With the pandemic, Plum's hot and salad bars are now all prepackaged. I miss getting my regular smorgasbord of "a little bit of everything" but it totally makes sense and it's much easier to grab and go this way, even if they do suffer in quality just a little bit. But it won't be this way forever and we gotta do what we gotta do. It does help me with portion control, though! Hah. The hot and cold counters, however, are still running as usual, in that you have to ask the staff to package them for you. A rotisserie chicken, kale brussels salad, and mashed potatoes or sweet potatoes make for my favorite takeout for an easy dinner and the chicken lasts for one or two more meals to add into tacos, on salads, etc. Online ordering and drive up pick up are also available but it does feel safe and clean if you need to run inside. read more

I like Plum for the convenience to my house. I can strap on my backpack and grab some items. I rarely do all of my shopping here because it is pricey. I definitely shop the sales! It's fun to go after 8:00 pm to check out marked down baked goods and sushi. I want to give the staff a shout out. Most--like Jahnavi and Thomas--are friendly and helpful. Plum has some of the best customer service of any store I visit. They also have one of the worst apps I've experienced. Their products are stellar and of high quality and though not cheap, they are worth their price as not the same as other stores' items. When they do have such items, they match the price. I noted once that they had three price points of cheese, but you could find some unique cheeses at the higher price; that's their thing--things that aren't available any place else, not even Whole Foods. Their Deli and soup/salad bar are terrific and if you need a quick high quality dinner at the last minute, go there! read more

I like to frequent this location just an hour before closing in hopes of snagging heavily discounted Zingermans day old desserts. The Boston cream pie is my favorite While the prices here are steep, they offer great coupons now and again on their app. They have a great hot food bar, now with individually packaged foods available due to the pandemic. They also carry an amazing smoked trout dip I like to put on crackers. There are also sometimes interesting finds on a discount shelf in the back of the store. The Zingermans coffee shop inside this grocery store is a big draw as well. read more

This is a review of the food bar, I've really only eaten here. I have not shopped in the market at all. The people are friendly and for a cafeteria style food bar it's pretty good food. This is not a fancy place nor would I consider the food gourmet but if you need a meal on the fly this is a very good choice in this part of town. There is a hot bar which has offering each day, seems to be different from day to day. We went on a Friday specifically because they have a Ramen bar on Friday and my mom likes it. I've eaten here about 6 times and the food has been good. They offer a vegan or vegetarian option and they also have an extensive salad bar. The hot bar, salad bar, pizza, deli, bakery area is on one side of the store. You gather everything you want and then you pay at the register. There is a small seating area just to the right of the end of the cashier area. They have utensils and also a small Zingerman's coffee bar for hot beverages. This is a solid option on the northeast side of town. More affordable than a full service restaurant and much healthier than any fast food. read more

High blood pressure with a side of salt. We had to grab some eggs and decided to get the cooked food here as well. $55 later we left with a slice of spinach pie, Mac and cheese and chicken pot pie. The pot pie is so unbelievably salty it's not edible. The spinach pie is stuffed with havarti cheese that again is so salty it over powers the spinach pie. The Mac and cheese again was very salty but it was edible. We will make sure we stick to just getting eggs from here. read more

I love this little market for its large selection of local goods. From Roos Roast coffee to Zingerman's baked goods, you can get lots of unique Ann Arbor items here! The selection isn't the best (my attempt to find an acceptable vanilla coffee creamer was a bust because I didn't want nut milk), but it's a great place to stock up on snacks and adult beverages. The shopping experience has always been very pleasant for me as well: good service and super clean space. The 1 star is docked for prices: for regular groceries, the sticker shock is real. $8.99 a pound for cherries? Girl, bye. read more

Never setting a foot there again. Besides being entirely too overpriced without justification, the employees are rude and snooty. I got accused of stealing groceries today, to top it all off. Some young girl chased me (and my daughter) on Valentine's Day of all days and told me that because I didn't have my receipt with me, I didn't pay for my groceries and to return to the store. Err!!! I just said "no" to the receipt. Never been this angry and embarrassed in my life. The manager didn't care either, so I had to go figure it out for them. The guy who checked me out went on break, so they had the wrong info (naturally). No apology. No one cared that they made me look terrible in front of my 9 year old no less. Anyway. Plum Market is one off my all-time favorite grocery stores. NO, this is not a place to do your regular grocery shopping. NO, they don't carry regular brands like Doritos and Pop Tarts. But as a special treat, Plum Market really shines. Their hot foods bar is all-time. Their prepared foods are restaurant quality. They have the absolute BEST mashed potatoes I've ever tasted! And their bakery area has incredible service- you can order half loaves of bread, and they'll slide any bread you want, even baguette! This used to be an amazing place to shop. I thought their service used to be awesome. But the last several times I've been there the meat and seafood department has been very disappointing. there was the time that I bought softshell crabs and they were uncleared.. Meaning like still alive! With their heads and their lungs still inside them. Although I had asked to have them cleaned, they were not. Today I bought a rack a lamb. Now you can get rack of a lamb at Costco for about $15 a pound. You can also get rack at lamb at Plum market for 25.99 A pound. The difference you might ask yourself? I'm sure there's a difference in quality. However I marinate my lamb in curry so I'm not sure that you would be able to tell huge difference. The difference I was hoping to see, was that the fat would be cut off and the sinew would be gone. When the man brought my Recolly am out, I noticed it was still very fatty and was not what I would consider ready to be cut. And I mentioned that and decided I was going to buy something else. But he said he would take care of it. When I came back to get it he was not there and my rack a lamb was sitting on the counter. So I picked it up and took it home. So tonight when I unwrapped the rack a lamb. It appears that all he did was plate take it out of the plastic container and wrap it in butcher paper. The whole reason I was spending an extra $10 a pound was that I didn't have time to take care of this myself tonight. But I ended up doing it myself. And I had to cut 7 ounces of fat off my record lamb see photos.I called to speak to him but he has gone home for the day. When I call and ask to speak to someone, no one asks why you were calling even though you sound very annoyed like I did tonight! I'm going to have to find another place to buy my meat. I shop here at least once a week. I only go if I have coupons on the app or from the flyer however, as anything besides their beer, wine, and liquor is higher priced compared to other places. My favorite things include their spirits department, bakery (with deals after 8 PM), and wine tastings with apps. Staff is generally friendly and always helpful. The staff in the spirits department is also very knowledgeable and friendly. They have some of the best deals on almost all liquors and wines. My only complaint is that I don't get loyalty points on my app with spirits purchases! Bakery items are always fresh. Produce is mostly good, for some reason I always have issues with the packaged cucumbers getting moldy the next day. My pro tip: download the app and shop smart by going when they have 15% off the whole purchase and then extra % off the deli/frozen/section and try out all the brands that have coupons. I tend to do smaller shopping trips here (well try to) so that I get to use a $5 off $35 or whatever the deal is so I never pay full price. read more

I love Zimmerman's coffee. This coffee shop is inside the plum market but has it's own space. Beautiful décor, warm lighting, ample seats, and it doesn't have much noise like most grocery stores do. The coffee is smooth, and the pastry is fresh and delicious. You can get tall coffee just for a dollar if you buy a party. I highly recommend this place. This is of no fault of Plum Market and I love this store, but the clientele is scary. I ran up to Plum to just run in and grab some dog treats for my pup and she loves to go for car rides. It was a bit warmer today so I left the two front windows halfway down and left the AC running. I made it very quick and was back at the car within 6-7 minutes. As I was driving away a crazy woman was chasing me telling me I couldn't leave my dog in the car!! It was terrifying and she was clearly a zealous vigilante on a relentless search for any possible sign of abused animals in the vicinity! This is what I hate the most about Ann Arbor, young women (particularly) who are running around "saving" the perceived victims whether it be animals, minorities or humans in general. I talked to the Manager and they reassured me I had done nothing wrong and they get a lot of that in AA! Please people, mind your own damn business and use some common sense!!! I adore my dog and would sooner lose an appendage that let her suffer or be uncomfortable in any way. She is such a pampered pup. read more

One day I was on the north end of Ann Arbor and suddenly realized that there was a Plum Market on Plymouth Road near US-23. When did that show up? Oh, I have to admit, I got really busy during the holidays, so lots of stuff happened around me without my notice. So I hustled on in there because I was out looking for groceries anyway. I had been staying out of Plum Market, thinking "It's way too expensive," but now that I am required to have the special gluten/dairy/soy free diet, and eat grass fed beef, etc. by my doctor ... I thought it would be a good idea to check it out. When I walked into the first room of this place, everything looked so absolutely *perfect* that I had the eerie sensation that I was shopping on a movie set. I mean, all the shelves are so carefully groomed, and the veggies are arranged as if for a photo shoot! When I got into the second area, I noticed that the shelves are so tightly packed that there isn't much room to turn around in there. I guess that is to maximize the amount of stuff that can be presented to the shopper. I mainly stuck to my shopping list, and found everything I was after. I had been staring at the Traditional Medicinals tea section for quite a while, then found a friendly employee who answered my question. They had changed some of the labeling, but this man seemed to know exactly what I was after. So handy to have him right there when I needed to ask a question! I had to check out the meat section. I am told that it is best to stick to 100% grass fed beef. The beef they have at Plum Market is not 100% grass fed. I think the focus on animal welfare is admirable, but the cows are most likely finished on corn. Good as a backup, I guess. I wanted to spend a little more time in the toiletries section. It just seemed like the kind of stuff that I'd want for spoiling myself, but I had to stick to my schedule. So I'll have to go back when I have time to look around longer. I also had to see the deli section. If I'm doing errands, is there enough stuff there that I can get lunch? I'm slowly learning that I don't have to be perfectly strict all the time, so by fudging here and there where I can, I would be able to find something in the prepared foods section that I could have for lunch. Been back to Plum about ten times since my first review, and most of what I said still applies, but after getting a better feel for the place, I find I enjoy shopping there less than I expected. That's due in large part to the physical layout--maybe I should say physical constrictions--of the store. Space in most aisles is very tight. The produce and meat selection is smaller than at the west side store, or at some nearby groceries, which I think is largely a result of the limited space. If many other shoppers are around (you can generally avoid them if you shop before 10AM), maneuvering your cart can get a little tricky, and even more so if sample stations are out (and they often are), or staff members are also working where you want to be. The roomiest part of the store is the bakery/food bar area, which happens to be the corner of Plum visit least. On three occasions when I've been to Plum and bought produce being advertised at a sale price, the register rang up the regular price and when I brought this to the cashier's attention, a long wait to verify the sale price followed. Similarly, some beer bottles I was returning didn't register on the return machine and I had to take these to a checkout. Actually, the bottle return scheme, when working as it should, is itself a bit of a problem. There's only one return machine, and there's no place to put any cardboard containers (like six-pack boxes) you're left with. A recycling bin next to it would be a great addition, although there isn't a lot of room to put one in the cranny of the store where the machine is (again, the space problem!). So, those are those are the dislikes I've accumulated about Plum. In spite of them, there still is a lot to like about the place. The beer and wine selection is fantastic, and when wine is being sampled, the server never hesitates to offer a pour. The meat I've bought there is of high quality. It's nice to have a full range of Zingerman's baked goods on hand without running downtown. And the staff has always been very cheerful and ready to help. The young lady behind the deli counter I've dealt with has been especially helpful and knowledgeable. Of course, there's the matter of Plum's prices. I'm not going to harp on that, but if you go you should be prepared to pay substantially more for most items than you would at other stores. Which is I why I generally buy little there that I can get elsewhere, a habit reinforced when I shucked out $7.50 for a head of broccoli a while back (when I was too tired to go elsewhere). There are good sales and coupons, fortunately. So it's nice to have Plum nearby, but my initial enthusiasm for it has been tempered. I expect I'll be a regular shopper there, but doubt I'll ever need the large cart. read more

But they 1) removed their cafe and now have no where to sit and only overly-acidic coffee, not espresso drinks; 2) have a limited and unappetizing hot bar selection of items that often have been there for 4-5 days, which as far as I know violates FDA guidelines; and 3) super overpriced items that just aren't worth it. I wonder if they have new management or directives from on high. Basically I have stopped going there and try to avoid it. Buschs and WF are much better. This is an okay place -- it deserves the highest stars for its cafeteria bar, which is really good, and the pastries that the Zingermans inside serves. However, the eating area is insanely uncomfortable and the solid metal chairs make a horrible screeching noise against the floor every time they are moved. It doesn't help that there is a total of four outlets in the entire eating area, so if you need an outlet you sometimes have to wait until someone sitting near one gets up and leaves. Additionally, in terms of Zingermans itself, the small drink size (which is insanely small) is almost for everything a minimum of $4. I'd like to get drinks here more often but it's never worth it -- and they are also not very good. The market itself seems to have a lot of interesting selections, but it can't be denied that it's definitely another rich people grocery store with normal items priced laughably high. read more

STORE: High-quality groceries, but would never purchase produce here because of the price. I occasionally get a unique dessert, tea, or a fun snack. Lots of fun sample to try. A little expensive? So Plum Market is like a more expensive version of Whole Foods for most stuff (reason why I docked a star). And keep your eye out because a lot of stuff I've seen on "sale" is like normal price at Whole foods. This particular one has a smaller cheese collection I would say but a larger bakery collection or at least the same size as Whole Foods. Plum market seems like they have even a wider variety of drinks (kombucha, juices, etc). Finally, Plum Markets ambiance and design is beautiful! It's so nice shopping here. But I have to admit, Plum Markets prepared food blows Whole Foods out of the water!!! It's so flavorful, there's a lot of variety, and made with quality ingredients whereas I feel like Whole Foods prepared food is bland and not the best quality cooking and ingredients. Finally, my favorite reason for shopping here is they have $1 Avalon (Detroit bakery) chocolate chip sea salt cookies! Whole Foods sells them for 2/$4! And they carry other Avalon products which I love! If you sign up for their rewards program, you can get a decent amount of coupons. I've seen coupons like $5 off $50, $5 off $25, 25% off your produce purchase, etc. read more

The Plymouth Road Plum Market is right by my workplace, so I wish I liked it better. Every time I go there for a deli lunch I end up disappointed--everything on the food bar looks incredible, but then turns out to be incredibly bland. I have been fooled too many times; I quit! I have had a couple of unpleasant interactions with one of the checkout people too...I get that they don't want us to put our shopping baskets on the floor, but to continue to lecture a customer after the problem has been swiftly corrected just makes that person never want to come back. I will stick with Busch's. What I really wish we had in NE Ann Arbor is an Arbor Farms...I recently visited their renovated store on Stadium, and it was AMAZING. Is Plum Market a touch on the expensive side? Yes. Does that stop me from throwing some hard earned cash at them? No. After some shopping last night I decided I wanted a snack, and not a snack from a gas station so I suggested we high-tail it to Plum Market to grab a baked good and maybe a little bit of sushi. For those not aware, sushi is half off I believe after 8pm. Normally, they're $10.50 a package so $5.25 is a really good deal. But, it's not fresh as can be. My sushi had brown avocado and was a tad mushy. Didn't stop me from guzzling them down; can't resist spicy mayo. I also grabbed the pumpkin cheesecake which was good, but more like pumpkin pie than cheesecake. While disappointing for about 2 seconds, I realized I could eat more in one sitting because it was less rich. Because I can't treat myself and not grab a little something for my dog, I picked up a 2 rawhide package for her at the not really competitive price of $7. I will say though, it's amazing they have at least a small selection of products for your favorite pet. Plum has a great selection of produce, beer/wine, ready-to-eat foods and many other things. You pay more for it, so it might not be the place to do your weekly shopping. But, it's a great place to grab a quick lunch or higher quality foods. read more

On the recommendation of co-workers, I stopped in to grab lunch at the hot food bar. I have to say, the selection was excellent and reasonably priced. Based on that alone, I would love to give this place 5 stars, but I made the mistake of straying from the buffet to grab a couple of items needed at home. I was so shocked by the grocery prices, my monocle fell off. I suppose if you're the kind of person that loses sleep over not eating enough quinoa, you could take out a 401k loan and load up. However, most of the items are available nearby at prices affordable by shoppers lacking inherited titles and lands. Craft beer selection is disappointing, but I'm overlooking that due to their stocking Achatz pies. read more
