I need something small and by all means basic, but this really is a store for the professional and at most the avid amateur. Their SLR cameras were the best you could buy and had the price tags to show it. They also stocked reflective sheeting to improve lighting and the huge beaming lights to shine on it. The shop was well set out and seemed to feature Sony and Panasonic as it's two main brands. Had a browse around and eventually the sole staff member came over to help. He was really nice and patiently explained the pros and cons of the tape vs. hard drive recording formats and the (huge) difference in price and the like. There was no hard sell and he seemed to really want to understand what I wanted to get out of a camera so I could chose the best model. After a pleasant and informative chat I left with a brochure and a much better idea of my options. Perfect. The shop also had a wide selection of electronic goods ranging from inexpensive DAB radios right up to pricey plasma and flat screen tv's. Pros: Expert knowledge. Cons: There is a lot of swanky kit in here, you will be tempted.

Rea's appears to be one of those stores that survives, somehow. The one time I went in here, which…read morewas quite recently for a cable and they were quite rude. I know they stocked them and they did. It was once they realised that they simply couldn't sell me anything else apart from this meagre cable that they kinda shut down all thoughts of customer service. I hope I just caught them on a bad day and it's not the usual form of treatment because I wouldn't like to think that's how the roll.

Recently I broke my baby, my baby being my beautiful DSLR and although a little dubious to whether…read moreJessops could help, I brought it in anyway to see what could be done. The staff were brilliant. The guy was sensitive to my obviously crazy upset at the damage to an inanimate object and discussed with me my options for repair. He took it and sent it off, quoting a turnaround of 3 weeks. Within a week it was back, fixed, and they even put a new eye-bit (technical term obviously) on for free, and it was much cheaper than getting a replacement. The guys in here know their stuff and clearly have a passion for what they do and I'll be back in a heartbeat.

It was for a…read moreparticularly antiquated camera so I'd already drawn a blank at Dixons and a couple of other smaller computer stores. One of them helpfully recommended Jessop's as a kind've last resort so I trudged over here without much hope of a solution. The assistant was really helpful and he was able to tell me in no uncertain terms that this type of memory storage wasn't made any more and my best bet would be to try and get some 2nd hand on eBay. Not exactly the best out come but at least I got a bit of resolution. Pros: Very helpful staff. Cons: Smallish shop.
