I was with PNC for over 10 before I finally decided to close my accounts due to repeated poor customer service and ridiculous overdraft fees. Things seem fine when you don't have a question or a problem, but get ready for disappointment when you have an issue. The final straw was when my account was compromised over Christmas. Although the fraudulent charge wasn't posted to my account yet, the $400 was pulled from my available funds, then I was charged about 7 overdraft and continuous overdraft fees. My savings was transferred over to pay for PNC's fees when I needed it most, AFTER I contacted PNC and informed them that my account was compromised. So I decided it was time to change banks and went to a branch to close my accounts. The rep actually said that I shouldn't ever call the toll-free number because the branches have better customer service. The only reason I hadn't called in was because they are always experiencing high call volume and service quality can be hit or miss. Apparently the branch couldn't close the account the day I went in b/c there were 2 pending charges. So the rep said she could close the account without me and could send me a check for the balance. Turns out that she didn't close it after the fees posted and 2 more charges were posted to my account after it should have been closed and 2 more overdraft fees were added. I went back to PNC and the rep said she told me to call her back to close the account, which was not true. I asked what I could do to get the account closed once and for all, and she said I could pay the 2 charges and she would waive the fees. She had the nerve to say "PNC is giving you hundreds of dollars in fees," as if they were doing me a favor after hitting me with multiple overdraft fees for a fraudulent charge they failed to notice (made overseas). So, I had to go make a trip back to PNC again on a Saturday, pay my bills in cash withdrawn from my NEW bank, and apparently the account will still not be closed because the CASH "had not been processed" yet (?). So I asked the rep to at least put a hold on my account and stop paying anything in my name because I no will longer do business with PNC. It has been a crappy bank experience from the start and a nightmare to close my account. It took about a week, lots of re-explaining and 3 trips to the bank to get the job done. If you like to argue and plead for your own money, then by all means trust your hard earned money with PNC. PNC has done what they can to make my money their money. I have been unhappy with PNC for a while but was complacent because all my bills were set up for auto-pay and they have ATMs everywhere so it was convenient. I knew changing banks would be a hassle because of what I had experienced over the years with this bank, but I had no idea how bad it would be. PNC is a trap, and I'm glad I'm finally out of their grasp. read more
