Things started well, I was waiting in line and another employee stepped up to open and handle my transaction. I passed my endorsed check across and he asked me to put in my debit card. I told him I was not a customer of the bank and was here to cash a check drawn on a Chase account. He then told me that, they would be charging $8- to cash a $42- check. I asked to speak with the manager. He said he was the manager. I protested the charge. "I've come to Chase to cash a check drawn on a Chase account." Why should there be a charge? He then told me that the charge was not coming up and put the $42- on the counter. He then asked for my identification. I provided my driver's license and asked if that was a Federal or Chase Bank requirement, to provide identification for a check payable to cash. He stated it was a bank requirement acting for the Federal Government. I repeated back to him that this request then, was a Chase Bank request and not a federal request. He claimed then they were protecting their customers. I stated that I am not his customer and unlikely to become one with these types of treatment and policies. I left the bank with my money, but having had a completely negative experience with Chase. I will either deposit any such future checks and wait for them to clear or not accept my mother-in-law's offers to pay for takeout. I do not understand how a bank which presumably values their customers, would treat a non customer and potential client, so rudely.
