If you like quirky parks with loud jets flying over, this is the perfect place! I stumbled upon it while exploring around Anchorage, and it was such a fun spot to spend some time on a beautiful sunny day. There's a large parking lot, complete with a couple of outhouses and (at least on the day I visited) a hot dog vendor, too. The parking lot sits well above the beach area, where I walked around and did plenty of people-watching before heading out to the point and the very colorfully painted structure that (maybe?) I think has something to do either with airplane or sea navigation. Surrounding the point were zillions of painted rocks. It was local art gone wild and I loved it! At regular intervals, giant jets flew over upon takeoff from the airport (which is mere yards away). If you don't like loud jets, I would not recommend this beach. But if you do, well, you've come to the right place! read more

A dead moose carcass. Graffiti, mostly colorful. Didn't close enough to see if it was also tasteful. Slippery clay and mud - lots of moments where I thought I might slip and fall to the ground. Definitely something to watch for. Small granulated particles sliding down the sandy hill. Crazy to see erosion in action. Just a few of the many exciting things along this walking area. Beautiful breeze off the inlet. Lots of great views of downtown Anchorage. Lots of parking available and a wonderful place to get to see a brilliant sunset. Bring a chair and a cooler! read more

When you're hitting the views in Anchorage, definitely drive out past Earthquake Park to stop here. The view is incredible! You can even hike or ride a bike out here on the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. The road on the way to the point is very pretty. We visited in the fall and the color was incredible, all yellow and gold. Watch for moose as you drive, you'll likely spot one in the woods just off the road! The beach is also accessible here, just a short walk down a gravel slope from the parking lot. I took the time to walk down the path to the beach. Very nice rocks down there if you're into that...I like rock hunting as well, so it was a nice way to spend a few minutes too. The sunsets and mountain views are amazing from here, you definitely need a shot of a sunset from this point. The mountains in the distance make a really nice backdrop for the color. We were lucky enough to catch the tail end of one and it was amazing! If the northern lights are on, this will also be the place to take a shot of them over Anchorage. You'll see the skyline in its entirety to your right from the bluffs. :) Go see! read more

This is THE place in Anchorage to watch the sunset and/or neck. Lover's Lane, as it were. I'm a huge fan! You can also watch the planes land at Anchorage airport. So as long as you don't mind massive jets zooming over your head while you're getting snuggly, you'll have a nice end to your evening. Oh, and in summer, the ice-cream truck hangs out here regular, so you can score a snack too! read more

This view is so captivating! Even being still a bit snowy (snow on the path in some areas) and cold, I still enjoy this walk. You can see that infamous picture of Anchorage with the mountains in the background on this route. If your a plane enthusiast you can watch really low flying planes. Great area for any strollers, wheelchairs (some steep areas, but manageable if your strong or can have someone push you), bikes and just about anything can be on this well paven path. I will come here time and time again with my little one and just for a nice beautiful walk outdoors and with the dog. read more

I don't know that I got to experience everything that this point has to offer, a lot of the people that reviewed the Knowles Trail said that it's their favorite spot of the whole trail so I'm sure that I didn't get to see it all. But what I did see, was pretty amazing. You are basically able to walk down to the bank of where the ocean is flowing and during January, it looks pretty spooky to be honest, but also something you don't see very often. Apparently several months ago, someone decided to do an artwork where they placed a ton of statues on the bank, supposedly capturing the lives of those who were lost in the mud banks. But just being on this bank, they were waded inward and basically so weathered down already that it looks like they've been there for forever. Either way, a nice walk to check out the ocean close, but not running in the water close, plus you'll freeze. And if you don't mind the creepy statues, they actually make the place more special. read more

All of the reviews here pretty much say it all. Thanks folks-:-) This is by far the best place to get a nice shot of the Anchorage skyline and an added plus is the view of Sleeping Lady. The very best time in my opinion for good lighting would be sunset. I have been here at various times of the year. Spring and late summer/early Fall have been great for taking pictures. Most likely, there will be other shutterbugs there, as this is a very popular spot for taking it all in. You can get there by taking Northern Lights west, ride off into the sunset until you get to the wooded area just past Earthquake Park. Look for the park on the right. This is also the "back door" road to the airport post office which has the best hours in town. BEWARE, however: Postmark Road is a police favorite speed trap. In an area which typically could be 40 m.p.h., there are (sparse) signs indicating that it is actually 35 m.p.h. Police hide out here. If you've got cruise control use it. The police also watch to make sure you make a full stop at the stop sign upon leaving back onto Northern Lights heading East. This has been my observation, having been lucky enough to not get pulled over. I am on to them now. And you can be too. After all, doesn't it make you wonder if the police just sometimes have way too much time on their hands? read more

Beautiful views. I like bringing guests here to see the sights and it's really just a nice place to catch your breath and relax. When life gets heavy it's nice to look at what's provided to you and just unwind. The road getting here is pretty scary in the winter because of the ice and the huge trucks that sometimes travel down this road lumbering quickly towards their destination. It's a great place to bird watch as well. Watch the planes take off. read more

Located right off the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, Point Woronzof Park offers a sitting area for viewing Mount Susitna across the inlet or watching planes take off from Ted Stevens International Airport. You might also be able to catch some wild life in the area. Twice, during the winter time, I've caught moose snacking on the trees near the pond. Winter time also offers cold enough temperatures where figure skaters can skate around on the small pond. During the summer, this is often where I start my bike ride towards Kincaid Park. All that room to roam, but every time I've been the trail is typically lined with moose also enjoying the paved path. My favorite activity throughout the year, is grabbing a warm meal for sunrise or sunset and sitting ontop of my car watching the planes go by. I love travelling, more than I love planes - which is a deep love of mine. Often times I try to sit back on my Jeep and listen to the sounds from the line. The sounds of the throttles spooling up from the distance. As the plane gains momentum down the runway, the wings produce more lift and the pilot proceeds to pull the airplane upwards. Then retracting their wheels above head, creating less air resistance, I try to guess what kind of airplane it is and imagine where it could be going. From this spot you really can't watch planes land, however down the road you can watch the gentle giants slowly place their wheels down onto the ground and taxi to their temporary homes. The history of aviation, and just aviation in general is fascinating to me. How did people even come up with todays modern day mode of transportation? I'll never truly be able to wrap my head around it. Can you imagine where the flying world will be in the 22nd century?! read more

This is by far my favorite place to visit every time I am in Anchorage. Take Northern Lights all the way down towards the water, you cant miss it! Amazing Views and I love to walk the beach and put my toes in the Alaska Beach. Truly Amazing and what an awesome view of the planes coming in and out. I HIGHLY recommend coming here! read more
