We found the regular collections including the murals in the Walker Art Building, formerly the lobby, and wooden masks once worn by individuals in New Ireland, an island in Papua New Guinea, at funerals and other cultural events to be equally enjoyable. Employees were just setting up a pair of new exhibits on the day of our visit so we did not get the opportunity to explore the entire museum as we will on an upcoming visit. There is no admission fee though donations are gratefully accepted.

I'm a native Mainer, and I've always loved the Clam festival. Where people put their camping chairs out along the side walk reserving their spot to watch the parade. I came on Thursday for the farmers market, and chairs were already set up for the parade on Friday. No one touches them or steals them, talk about a beautiful small community where everyone is family. I got off at exit 15 and followed the signs for the park n ride share parking lot. You can park for free and a school bus will shuttle you over to the festival. Busses run about 15/20 minutes. So you won't have to wait long. I got there early morning, 10am, they had 2 busses running the route. I walked around all the venders selling their arts and crafts and homemade desserts. It's in the grass, and in the shade. Today was just such a gorgeous Maine day. Nice breeze. Lots of shade, and the friendliest kindest people. In the other section if you go under the over pass, there's the whole tent where they do the clam shucking contest and all the seafood. That whole area is all tented so again, more shade available, lots of tables and chair to sit and eat your seafood. So much work and effort goes into planning this and the Yarmouth chamber of commerce has it down! As I walked along the seafood venders of fried clams, French fries, lobsters, fried dough, etc. I was trying to figure out what's the best way to go about this. It's 10am, I just ate breakfast, and am I really ready for seafood right now. So I walked away to give myself some time. And that's when I saw a police K9 demonstration. So I found a shaded area, and sat down on the ground and watched how they train a dog to attack the bad people. That was pretty cool to watch. It was a little hard to hear the police officers speak but you could catch a few key words and understand what they were saying. It was fun to watch another police office who was very well padded, get attacked by a dog. After the demonstration I wondered over to the rides area. Lots of rides I loved as a kid. The zipper, the Ferris wheel, and a few others. Lots of carnival type foods on that side. Cotton candy, candy apples, fried Oreo cookies, and fried dough too. The rides take tickets and it's cash only. And I believe rides cost a couple tickets each. By the time I walked around and saw everything I was ready for some Maine seafood. I decided on the shore dinner platter. A whole soft shell lobster. Steamers, small corn on the cob and potato salad. They give you a small container of hot water and butter. And a bundle of lobster bib, knife fork and wet nap. That was only $40.00 I thought that was a steal, and I was getting all the best of Maine seafood. Clams were outstanding. I haven't had steamed clams in forever. Lobster was sweet. Perfectly cooked. Corn was great. Potato salad was great too. I was so happy in my Maine heaven taking pictures like I was a tourist. I am, but not really. After eating I sat a little and then decided to head back up to the venders and look around some more. Then I caught the bus back to the park n ride share parking lot. Wonderful time. Perfect weather. Maybe I'll start coming every year for the Yarmouth clam festival. This year marks 57 years! Way to go Yarmouth.

I absolutely love it though. This studio is beautiful. I came in through the downstairs so was able to see the work area - lots of people, creating lots of beautiful things. So many gorgeous, finished pieces hanging upstairs. Wow!! I picked up half a dozen pieces of glass - you know, the stuff I "needed" even though I hadn't realized it. Nice collection of everything stained glass. Even if I don't book seat time in the work area, I will most definitely be back for supplies.

I was blown away by the theater, the production value, and the quality of the performers. Any of those actors could have stood on the Broadway stage and fit right in. The building, Pickard Theater, is beautiful and looks like an old church. The ushers were friendly and helpful. We were sitting midway back in the balcony and had a perfect view of the stage. I doubt there's a bad seat in the house. The tickets were more expensive than we expected but it was absolutely worth it!

I saw West Side Story yesterday. Just WOW! I've been going to performances at this venue for many…read moreyears and they are always great, but this totally took the cake. Interesting, complicated set design, great casting, great performances by the principals. But the best part was the production numbers. Amazing dancing. Also, this year there is a shuttle so that parking is less of a hassle. This is the last play of the season and there is still time to see it. Highly recommend. Wish there was a way to give 10 stars!

Skyline Farm truly has something for everyone. In the winter we have visited for snowshoeing and…read morecross country skiing. In warmer whether the hiking is fun. But there is more . . . The Carriage Museum has 130 carriages and sleighs, of which about 75 are on display at any given time. The carriages and sleighs are gorgeous, and the signage tells all about their history or interesting technology. In addition, there was an incredibly knowledgeable and helpful docent when we were there that gave us a tour and even more details about the exhibits. They even take the sleighs out for rides in the winter on Sleigh Day. Everything is free, although donations are welcome. This is definitely a gem to be treasured.

Skyline Farm is a great spot to check out any time of the year. They have a slogan that says "A…read moreUNIQUE PLACE WHERE HISTORY AND NATURE ARE JOINED FOR LEARNING AND RECREATION." I have personally only been the past 3 winters for snowshoeing on the trails. They are generally groomed and wide. The woods are peaceful and we have seen woodpeckers and lots of deer tracks with lovely bird sounds. You wind around the trails on snowshoes, cross country skis or even go sledding in the fields. We have had a lot of snow this year and we found the trail through the field to be covered in drifts which made it tougher on short dogs, but I really have a soft spot for this place and highly recommend checking it out. I should start this review by saying that I was born and raised right in quaint little Harrison, Maine (and had never been either)... Smack dab in the middle of 2 beautiful lakes and surround by mountains. It. Is. Perfect. We're small and quiet and we like it that way. So it may surprise you to hear that it's home to "Maine's Most Enchanting Theatre", which was built in 1935 by Enrica Clay Dillon, who was a prominent opera singer and sister in law to Clark Gable! (I learned all this last night at my very first show, so naturally I gotta drop some knowledge on y'all!) It's a 350 seat theatre built of rose hemlock and the second you walk in the doors you can understand why the word "enchanting" is used to describe it. It's a woodsy, warm & inviting place. Not a bad seat in the house, however in the middle of July it does get quite toasty in there considering it has barn doors and camp style windows, (remember -- enchanting) .. Last night, I accompanied my grandmother to see "Open The Door For 3" which is an incredibly talented Celtic Trio. I know there was an Irish Guitar player... and a lady Fiddler.. and then.. the man with the weird pile of stuff-- which I can't tell you what it was, but, BOY did he know how to play it... it was a flute and a tin whistle and another bagpipe-y thing on his arm (he was all over the place!) Not only were they are extremely, EXTREMELY talented musicians, they jived SO well together!!! If you ever get the chance, let them entertain you, it's a really remarkable thing to hear music that's hundreds of years old. One minute it felt like the Titanic was setting sail, and the next I felt like I was Rose, in the basement of the cargo space dancing and drinking beer with a bunch of rowdy Irishmen. But, you be the judge yourself. Regardless of whether or not you like a Celtic Trio, or the theatre in general- Please please do yourself the favor of visiting this breathtaking little venue for at least one show. They do kids shows during the weekdays and on show nights they encourage you to pack a picnic and sit on the lawn before the curtain bell rings. Whatever you do, just go! And tell a friend. This place is really something special.

Maine is full of out-of-the-way venues with special flair, and the Deertrees Theater is at the top…read moreof our list. Built in 1936 when Americas were first beginning to vacation by car, Deertrees Theater is in the cute town of Harrison at the tip of Long Lake. I can envision that it was a great hangout for the rich and almost rich to enjoy productions put on by top performers from the NYC and Boston opera and Broadway shows, because it was too hot to stay in the cities. Now the audience is made up of locals and summer visitors who clearly know what a special place this is and visit it frequently. Deertrees Theater is billed as the most acoustically perfect theater north of NYC. I can't say whether that is true, but I can tell you that the acoustics were terrific. The audience could easily hear un-amplified performers from any seat in the house. The Deertrees Theater has a really full schedule while it is open. The playbill we saw had something going on at least 3 days a week. Some were plays, many were musical performances. The show we went to, Susie Pepper and Mixology, was of the highest quality for musical showmanship and talent. The theater sells homemade cookies, coffee, wine, beer, and lots more. There are restaurants and taverns in Harrison, and Bridgton is right around the corner with several more places to eat. We drove over an hour to attend the show, and we are so glad to discover this wonderful place. No matter if you are not close by, you will not regret exploring this part of Maine and coming to the Deertrees Theater. There are just so few places as well maintained, well managed, and with so many great shows. We had a spectacular time and hope that others will too.

Of course they sell different maple syrups in various bottles and sizes. Normally Maine Maple Weekend is at the end of March each year. They may offer drop box options for purchases but not sure.
