This will be my last visit to Polished. the woman doing my pedicure was sooo miffed that I had nail polish on one of my toe nails that she proceeded to file the polish off and the skin around my big toe. She did wipe the blood without apologizing and then sprayed acetone on the wound. what was supposed to turn into a nice relaxing treat turned into a painful torture experiment. it would have taken her less time to use the nail polish remover and foil for 2 minutes. my new pedicure is now covered with neosporin and a bandaid..good look for the beach! highly in recommended nail salon read more

My first time at Polished in Hockessin. I normally go to walk in nail salons so I did not know what to expect going into an upscale nail salon. I was a little nervous. I had an appt and was greeted nicely by the receptionist who offered me their punch card after so many visits. She guided me to the color selection which was hard to choose with so many great colors. I only sat for a moment when my technician, Yvette, came for me. Yvette was so kind, pleasant, and sweet! She did fantastic work and I am so pleased with how my feet look and feel! This is absolutely my favorite nail salon. Polished has a few locations, but Hockessin is, in my opinion, the best. It's always extremely clean, and the staff are very professional. It's nice now that you can make reservations by phone or online, since their walk-in policy is dumb (pretty much all restaurants/ businesses that take walk-ins let you put your name on the list and come back... at Polished you have to wait there the whole time, even if the wait is upwards of two hours!). The real reason for my 5-star review is that my manicures are always phenomenal. The staff pay great attention to detail, and are always really patient and polite if I ask them to correct some small detail. When I was in last weekend, I asked my manicurist to touch up a spot on my nail where the nail was flaking (my fault for not wearing gloves while cleaning) because I was worried it would chip quickly. She gave it extra polish, and 10 days later my nails still don't have a single chip (with normal nail polish, not gel)!! This never happens if I go anywhere else, but at Polished in Hockessin, my nails always look flawless for at least a week. That's why I only come here now. Not to mention the price is very reasonable - $14 for express manicure or $17 for polished manicure. I'm attaching a photo -- this is what my nails look like today, 10 DAYS after my manicure. I'm always looking for a great way to have fun with my kids and not spend a fortune. Polished Salon fit both categories. After remarking on the cute toe and finger nails of several little girls I'd seen around our neighborhood swimming pool, the question, "Where did you get that done", was always answered "Polished". I was worried it would be priced out of our budget, but they are very affordable, and they don't do acrylic nails! Finally a nail salon where you don't have to worry about tumors from carcinogens with every breath you take! I took my two girls 4 and 6. They do not take appointments and we had only waited 5 minutes before three sweet ladies took each of us back and seated us right next to each other in those comfy massage chairs! My daughters each received flowers painted on their fingernails ($5) and toenails ($7) in colors of their choice and while I wasn't expecting them to, they even trimmed and filed their little nails! On this outing I also received a cute polka dot pedicure ($10) that is going on its 4th week! While the girls fingernail polish did not last more than a week, they too still have brightly painted toenails 4 weeks later. We will definitely return. My girls really enjoyed showing everyone their fun fingernails and toenails and it was a nice activity to share with my girls. read more

This is my third time here. I made an appointment all three times and I still had at least a ten minute wait. The receptionist needs a personality and the rest of the staff are okay. If the name of the salon is Polish, you would think that they would have a great polish selection?!?? Not so. The gel polish selection was so outdated and the regular nail polish selection was old as well. The first young lady that serviced me was quiet but she did a great job considering I was transitioning from pink and white acrylic to gel manicure and the bed of my nails were horrifying! She took her time and she polished my nails very nicely. I don't like the fact that you have to pay first, what's that about? Do people normally leave without paying for their service? I'm also an ethnic woman and I believe that had something to do with me not getting the warm and fuzzy treatment from the receptionist. Oh well, at least I can say I gave them three chances. Super disappointed. I came here because I've been working so hard at school and work so I decided to treat myself to a bit more pricey pedi than usual, thinking it would be wonderful. I was wrong. First the receptionist was super friendly as were the other staff from what I could see, except for my lady. For a $28 pedicure it says it comes with a massage. She went to put the hot towel on me and I asked her if I'd be receiving a massage after and she says "I already did the massage". I rolled my eyes a bit because the massage she's talking about was the 30 seconds it took to rub the lotion into my legs. This rating is solely on my visit and not the establishment as a whole. I asked a lady next to me who seemed to be receiving an amazing ten minute massage which pedi she chose and long behold it was the same one I did. I also put 30 minutes on my massage chair and when I got up there were 11 minutes left, so what does that say? As a full time student who works hard for the little money I earn I'm so disappointed. read more

This is a really great nail salon, and everybody seems to know this judging from the lines out the door! Everyone who works here is super nice and friendly which is a nice change of pace from some of the more generic, strip mall places. The decor is super cute and they have a lot of color options. My only complaint is really about how busy it always is. If you go on an off time, it is totally worth it because it really is a great salon. If you go first thing on a Saturday and aren't at the front of the line, prepare to wait 45 minutes to an hour. read more

I have been a loyal customer since Polished opened its original location on Old Lancaster Pike (10+ years). Until the last year or so, appointments were not taken and you could always get seated within an hour. The staff was friendly and it was a relaxed environment. Now, an appointment is practically required and they do not staff to handle walk ins. Front desk reception is unwelcoming and put out if you do not have an appointment. Sadly, Polished has gone from a place my daughter and I loved to go (every 2-3 weeks) to one we are never going back to. Polished does not offer anything unique or special to make it worth the pain. read more

I am updating this rating. I had been going to this salon for over a year and had been using one technician. The last time I was there she cut me badly during a pedicure. She immediately covered the area as to hide it but I felt it. Ouch. I asked what happened and she told me she cut me. It bled profusely and she had to put an antiseptic on the area. However, what really concerned me was her seeming lack of empathy or acknowledgement for a potentially serious issue. She never apologized. I complained to management and they laughed it off. But, to me it was no laughing matter. I could have become infected. The salon offered no remuneration and I had already paid for the visit prior to my service. When I first went to this salon, I was really impressed. But lately, every time I try to go, the wait is more than an hour long. They are turning away business all the time. It seems there is a problem getting licensed staff to work. All the ladies come from Philly and I guess they get tired of the drive or something. I can no longer depend on this salon. If I could give less than 1 star I would have. I am a professional "Secret Shopper" and went to this salon on my own time: not being paid to review it. Polished nail salon in Hockessin seems to have one goal: to make white women who would be uncomfortable in a more traditional Asian nail salon feel at ease. The Asian girls who work there are NOT permitted to speak any language of than English when in ear shot of customers. Strange, huh? Many of the girls also have adopted a more Caucasian look: blue or green contacts, lightened hair... again, for the sake of the narrow minded white customer. As far as the service: lots of fluff and comfort: but very poor skills in the pedicure department. Beth, the attended who struggled through every phase of my pedicure lacked talent and the ability to show attention to detail. The results of my pedicure are no different than what could be accomplished at home. The tools and the footbeds are no more clean than at other salons. The floor was filthy and dust. The drying area was unkept, dusty, and the dryer did not work... I was moved twice before they found one. The employees are pleasant, although 5 were sitting on the couch texting or talking on their phones while 2 customers fumbled through trying to find a drying machine that was plugged in and working. The salon gets two thumbs down.... I would not recommend it and due to the lack of skill and the lack of cleanliness I wouldn't return. read more

This is a nice place to get your nails done, it's clean and large, with about 15-20 pedicure chairs. This location does not take appointments, so be ready to wait. They have a large staff so they move through the wait list rather quickly, plan to wait 30-45 minutes. The seats are comfortable in the waiting area, which is a plus. The prices are very reasonable, $43.00 for a "polished" manicure and pedicure. They also have a huge selection of polish colors. This salon does not do acrylic nails, but they do shellac manicures in addition to the normal nail salon services. The women who work there are personable, kind and helpful when picking out colors. I have never had a bad experience, no one has ever cut my cuticle there or caused me to shriek "ouch!" Because a technician chopped up my toe. I absolutely love this salon (natural nails only - no acrylic) The staff is very friendly and professional. The salon is modern and clean. They make it very easy to relax and unwind (complimentary glass of wine with your spa pedicure doesn't hurt either). They also provide free wifi during your visit. And they have a loyalty card. After 10 visits you get a free $20 gift card! Only thing I can say needs a little improvement is they need more Essie polishes. They should try to keep the new colors of the season available to choose for your mani/pedi. read more

I was in the area on my way to a wedding weekend and I desperately needed my nails done. At first I was concerned that they did not take appointments and I was worried about a long wait or getting turned away. I went on a Thursday afternoon and I did not have this problem as my wait time was about half an hour. I received a Shellac Manicure and the Polished Pedicure. Vy did an excellent job on my nails and the pedicure was very relaxing. (Massage chair!) This was my first time getting a gel manicure, but so far it seems worth the extra money. Even though I only had them done four days ago, normally I would have destroyed the polish by now. They look just as nice as the other day. My best friend and I were super excited to get pedicures and relax before we headed to dinner. I have been to Polished in Trolley Square many times and have had greats experiences. We arrived at Polished and signed in, we were not greeted by anyone so we just picked out our colors and waited. They were relatively busy so we patiently waited for about 40 minutes while we were never spoken to or made eye contact with by anyone. Finally my friend went to go ask how much longer it would be and let the staff know that we had never been greeted and the woman proceeded to tell us that she was sorry and they were busy. That is not acceptable. Business 101: greet your customers and make them feel like you appreciate their time and money :) we left after wasting 45 minutes of our time without pedicures and won't be returning. read more

I used to go to Salon by Dominic, but unfortunately they no longer offer nail services. This is about the sixth or seventh time I have been here and I have had good experiences in the past. However, this time not so much. I made an appointment for shellac and a pedicure, was taken on-time and the girl at reception was lovely. I sat at the pedicure station for about ten minutes before I was approached by the nail tech. She grumbled "Hi" without even looking at me so that really set the tone. I was looking for a particular polish color that I did not see on the shelf so I asked if they had it and she said no so I asked for a second color, which she went to look for. Ten minutes later she comes back with the first color I had asked for which was great. For the next half hour she said not one word to me. When I tried to engage her she would either mumble or literally grunt so I stopped trying. As for the actual pedicure it was typical, not better not worse. On to the manicure. My nails were bare and I had requested shellac. I have had shellac on my nails regularly and since there was no "soak-off" needed I anticipated this would take an hour at most.So the fact that it took an hour and forty-five minutes later was surprising and a little irritating especially because my nails are the size of Chiclets if not shorter. I'm not sure if this girl was new or if there was an issue with the polish, but after each nail she kept having to wipe of the polish because it wasn't going on evenly. EVERY SINGLE NAIL for both coats. This time; however, I got four whole words out of her "Go wash your hands" as she nodded at the sinks in the corner. I sat and watched all of the other techs laugh and engage their clients or at least smile. They seemed to enjoy what they were doing, but not my tech. Overall I got what I came for, but the experience was unpleasant enough that I won't be back. read more

Have not had positive experience booking appointments in recent months. Phone calls to Polished are not answered. Instead you are directed to go to their website. Booking online moved my appointment to a week later without notifying me. When I showed up for my appointment, the receptionist said that online appointments do that a lot but yet they don't do anything about it not do they honor your appointment. Frustrating read more

Since I just moved to Delaware, I've been looking around for a nice place to get my nails done. My friend and I went in there to get our nails done and we were amazed! We loved the fact that it is for people with natural nails only because there isn't an acrylic smell lingering in the air like most nail salons. I went in this morning to get a pedi because the prices and reviews were great . I should've known it was going to be a bad experience when I called for directions and the girl on the phone seemed annoyed to be speaking to me. When I walked in at opening there was already a line of people in front of me. I was told an hour wait and I wasn't allowed to leave or I'd lose my place in line. They were not open the day before for some reason, so I decided to wait. An hour and a half later there were still 5 people in front of me. The girls working there were hanging around talking to each other, folding towels and taking their sweet time. Finally, I got the sense knocked in to me when a girl who had already paid for her mani (she was supposedly next in line and was going to be seen shortly) asked for her money back. She had been waiting an additional 15 min and had still not been taken care of. All in all, the most horrible experience I've had at a nail salon. They don't make appointments for some reason and then make you sit there for hours. I don't care how amazing their skill level is or how cheap the price. I will never go back there and will not recommend it to any of my friends. read more

By far the worst nail experience of my life. I usually go to a different nail salon but used this one because I had a nail emergency and my own salon was closed. I came in and no one greeted me at the door, the receptionist remained silent without greeting me at all. I sat for 45 minutes waiting before anyone said anything to me. Two other guests who came in after me were taken back before me, to which the receptionist told me that I was next. Two more people were then taken again before me. I told her I had been waiting an hour and needed to be seen soon, and suddenly a new nail technician emerges from the back. Where was this woman the entire hour I was waiting to be seen? So, I was visiting my family and friends, and needed to get my nails done for my friends wedding. First of all, nobody was very nice when I walked in the door, got some judgmental looks as soon as I walked in, so the vibe already made me a bit salty. I signed up for a gel manicure and pedicure, and I was asked to pay for the services before I even got the services done.. who does that? Seriously, that's like paying for a haircut before you get it. Secondly, there was written no where that they only accept cash tips, that needs to be known for people prior to walking into that type business. So I asked the receptionist and she said no we only take cash tips and was pretty rude about it. So, I walked out. I will admit: I don't have a lot of experience in this department. I've only recently started getting pedicures and that's when I lived in Massachusetts. The place is awesome and the employees are very warm, attentive and conversational. My favorite part of the a pedicure is getting the leg/foot massage and they literally rub your feet for 10-15 minutes not the usual 2 minutes in other places. A great amount of attention was paid to every aspect of the process. I went with a friend, both of us had never been and went based on online reviews, which were right. Clean and warm atmosphere, definitely the nicest place I've been to. We got in within 5 minutes of being there, as we were walk-ins. Prices were actually less than what I had been paying at my last place in MA and we definitely got more for our money. The only complaint was that it was hard to find. Both my friend and I drove around in circles for a little bit trying to find the place. It's located in a plaza and is not well marked. But now that we know, it's a non-issue. I have experienced better salons. The main disappointment was the quality of the french manicure. Maybe it was the person assigned to me, but she obviously did not know what she was doing. She also rounded the nails way too much; they are almost pointy! I also had to wait 15 minutes since they do not do appointments. I must admit I do like the non-chemical smell inside the salon.
