Great place to rent bench space from in New Orleans as a lampworker. Good people in the studio and amazing food close by.

I already had two bowls ("vintage" as they were fired in 2007!) and on my Thanksgiving trip to NOLA this year (visiting my son who is a professional artist), I treated myself to 3 gorgeous perfume bottles!!! It was such a treat to also watch the owner & his assistants making beautiful works of art in the studio! All in all, a wonderfully invigorating experience for anyone who loves witnessing artistic expression and any passionate glass collector like myself !!!

Unfortunately, you cant always help who you fall in love with I suppose... The woman that introduced herself rather rudely as the owner; was not at all welcoming. And to be completely honest, I've dealt with rude people many times now in my adult life, and I've learned to take it with a grain of salt. What I can't overlook however, is a racist. I am a father to two biracial children, and I took my two boys to see this shop as we had just happened to talk about how glass was created, so the idea came to me that it would be far more memorable to SHOW them, as opposed to tell them right? Well, nothing more convenient than a glass blowing business in our own town. I explained the process to them on the way to Rosetree (to the best of my ability) and my two were stoked. When we arrived, I explained to them to stay close to me, and to not touch anything (the normal parent speech); and my boys 8 & 12 are very well mannered and behaved. Fast forward, after the boys got to view the process, we perused the store. Nice items? Sure. Overpriced? Insanely. Nonetheless, we viewed the pieces and then were going to leave. Here's where things went south. My 12 year old needed to use the restroom. My 8 year old decided he wanted to go with him. As such, he quickly half sprinted to try to catch up to his older brother, when the owner comes over and tries to reprimand them, at which point, I reminded the boys to calm down, and then politely asked the lady to not speak to my boys in that manner. I figured, that it was polite enough, yet would get the point across. Except this lady, the "owner" tells me that "she isnt going to allow little nigger kids to tear up her store...." I will say in all honesty, I probably should have been more calm in my response; but these are my kids, and I dont care who you are, you don't speak to my or about my kids that way. I came unglued. She double downed on her statement and scurried to the back like the rat she is muttering about calling the cops. I told her to go ahead, and that I hoped a black officer arrived to take the criminal complaint. Needless to say, I grabbed my boys out of the bathroom and got them to the car to leave. Look, I know there is racism. I know that its prevalent. I know that this is the South and its more prevalent here; but I will say this is the first time I have ever been exposed to outright blatant racism. Maybe it's because I'm a white dad to two biracial children, but it's not something I have ever experienced first hand, and I am sad for the future my boys will have to endure if the world is full of people like this lady. So do what you will, the store has nice things. It has nice employees. But the owner is absolute trash, and I wish nothing but the worst for her and her business. I honestly feel a bit sorry for her. I have two great boys, and her outlook on them as nothing but a derogatory name because of the color of their skin means that she would never get the opportunity to experience how great of kids they are. As for myself, and my family however; we will never come back to the store again. We will be telling all of our friends, our family, and website review boards about our experience, so maybe it will save someone else the heartbreak that it could have caused my boys.

I had two key words to go off of: tea and candles. Hmmmmm.... I had my friend Eric tell me about The Collective Shop a few months back when he bought some prints and I obsessed about them at his house. I was told it had recently opened on Magazine Street (this was around Halloween) and it was not only #blackowned but #womanowned and #opentoall ! *sold* I had this ace in my pocket for a while now but wanted a reason to shop for someone else, besides myself, and have a proper visit to explore and shop. I'm notorious for buying gifts for myself then as I'm in my car realized that I needed to shop for whatever the occasion was for. The shop is so stinking cute and is about 2-3 blocks away from Drink Beauty. Honestly, I love taking a stroll on Magazine Street and just basking in the ambiance. Once I found the cute little shop, I made my way in and fell in love at first sight. Had the chance to meet Alysia, one of the owners and she showed me around. I had asked her if they offer shipping and they do if you hit a certain threshold. WINNING I mentioned about my secret mission and wanted to make sure this could be sent incognito. She was super awesome and handled the details once I provided the address. I even left the items there since I needed computer access to her address. They have their own loose leaf tea and were super informative on which ones work with alternative milks and best for chai lattes. What won me over though were their #vegan candles which Alysia and Toni make in-house! I took a few sniffs and selected my fave two scents. The smaller ones were $8 a pop and the larger ones were around $14. You can find tons of knick knacks around here and make sure to ask which items are made in-house. Really loved my experience here and this shop implements COVID-19 safety practices! I snagged my secret santa gift for a little over $30 and left with a huge smile on my face. I hope CM Anne F. likes it just as much when it arrives to her doorstep.

Artists have their own booth, so you can view the transition in genre as you walk from one booth to the next. When I first walked in, I noticed the paintings on the walls, but there's everything from that to jewelry and hats. The majority of the jewelry is located centrally, in front of the counter, where they are less likely to walk away without being noticed. My favorites were the mixed media scenes and whimsical cat paintings by G. Lee, whose artwork I noticed in other parts of the city. Adorable cats looking straight at you, holding a beloved item in their paws. As I was visiting, there was an artist setting up shelves to present his artwork. He had someone assisting. The artwork is also sold at affordable prices. The woman at the counter was friendly and welcoming.
