Basic no-nonsense hotel near St. Mark's Basilica…read more I have a few basic requirements for a hotel room in Venice: clean, comfortable, inexpensive and near St. Mark's Basilica. There is nothing like staying up late into the night listening to the dueling orchestra's in St. Mark's Square and then a 5 minute walk back to the hotel with a smile on your face. All of those requirements are met with Ca' del Dose. There are only 6 rooms in this tiny hotel and my party of 8 nearly rented out the entire place. You have to tell them when you're arriving at the hotel so they can meet you. After that you keep your keys and you can wander in and out of the hotel like it's your own private apartment. I love that feeling! Someone comes in some time during the day and cleans your room and refills the miniscule but surprisingly tasty breakfast. Someone is at the front desk during the morning and afternoon but other than that you have the tiny place to yourself. The rooms are all basic and some rooms even have a balcony. This is one of the easiest hotels to find in Venice. From St. Mark's Basilica walk towards the gondolas, turn left at the water, keep the water to your right, go over 4 bridges and then turn left at the next alley. The hotel is on your right. Ask if they give a discount for paying in cash.

Don't forget that hot water is a luxury and that the water heater above the toilet is all the hot water you'll get. Just something to get used to and be aware of so you're not all soapy and the water turns cold. The woman at the counter was very pleasant and wanted to help us with our Italian. We had our own apartment so we had our own keys, but be advised that someone is not at the front desk 24/7 but there is a phone number in case you need someone. Just not sure how available they are.

Palazzo Odoni Location: A+ What a great location in the lagoon. After arriving at Marco Polo Airport, my husband and I took the ATVO bus to Piazzale Roma. From Piazzale Roma, walking to Palazzo Odoni took less than five minutes. Similarly, when we checked out of Palazzo Odoni and walked to the train station, we also had a five-minute walk. I loved the courtyard entrance into Palazzo Odoni. When entering the courtyard before walking up the stairs, you would never know that you're in a city with hundreds of people outside. The courtyard was so quiet that I could have heard a pin drop. Palazzo Odoni Staff: A+ I emailed Palazzo Odoni about a week prior to my arrival in Venice to inquire about making reservations for lunch at Enoteca ai Artisti after I experienced problems contacting the restaurant via phone. Alberto at Palazzo Odoni was very kind to call the restaurant on my behalf and schedule a reservation for us. (By the way, that restaurant was incredible!) Alessandro was very helpful with giving us directions and advice on getting around the city. We arrived about 45 minutes before our room was ready, and he provided us coffee on the house during our wait. One more note about the staff: Palazzo Odoni also comes with a hotel dog. That's an A+ no matter what. Palazzo Odoni Rooms: A+ Our room was small and quaint but very clean and lovely. The view from the room and bathroom were wonderful! The Venetian-themed decor was pretty and very fitting for the whole building. Our room was quiet, and we slept very well. Palazzo Odoni Food: A+ The breakfast at Palazzo Odoni was incredible! The croissants and small pastries were fresh and delicious. Also available were meats, cheeses and fruits, which were also fantastic. Even the morning coffee was wonderful. Everything about Palazzo Odoni -- the convenient location, courteous staff, Maffy, the wonderful rooms and the great food -- made our stay in Venice absolutely perfect. If and when I return to Venice, Palazzo Odoni will be my one and only choice for a hotel. I absolutely recommend it.

Our party of 3 stayed in the Tiziano apartment. It is very spacious, has a nice small kitchen, great AC, and ample seating areas. The apartment's main sitting and dining area is decorated in a traditional palazzo style. The comfy bed and pull out sofa are deftly slip covered IKEA products. Access to this apartment requires many stair steps. Approx 30 steps to get to the lobby, and another 14 steps inside the apartment to get to the bathroom and bedroom. The lower floor of the apt has sleeping for 3, plus 2 more upstairs. There is plenty of hot water and a Jucuzzi tub. Sleeping was comfortable, heavy traditional drapes keep out the morning light. We used the #5 ACTV bus to get to and from the Marco Polo Airport. The Odoni is only a 10 min walk from Piazzale Roma bus and vaporetto stops. Near the Vaporetto stop is a bank (withdraw Euros from teller machining using Visa card, with PIN), also the COOP supermarket, where you can stock up on goodies for the fridge. There are many good restaurants and shops close by. I strongly recommend this place to families that can easily climb all those steps.

Only 2 adults and 1 suitcase will fit in it. Reception is on the 4th floor. Very impressed by the security of the hotel. It provided all the toiletries and amenities we needed for a quick stay. The slippers were a nice touch. Wifi was fast and steady. They have an old style hair dryer that takes longer to dry hair so if you're hair-conscious, you might want to bring your own trusty hair dryer. Breakfast nook was quaint and charming. No cooked hot food but offered delicious prosciutto, salami and brie cheeses plus the usual croissant, toast, jam variety. We use 110v on all our gadgets so we needed an adapter. Don't worry- for 10 euro deposit, they will lend u an adaptor as well as lock and key for the room safe. Very quiet at night. There's a souvenir kiosk right outside the hotel and a gondola service steps away. English tv channels was a plus ! We loved our stay and highly recommend this boutique hotel! While the aforementioned hotel around the corner from St. Mark's square promised palatial accommodations, a palatial price (relatively speaking) accompanied the reservation. I sought a less exorbitant guest bill, and this guest house overlooking the Grand Canal delivered spectacularly. For $146, I scored two nights at an unbeatable location. Casa Favaretto's charm was unending, and the lovely experience began with a gorgeous and heart-warming smile from owner (I presume) Francesca. She helped me schlep heavy luggage up a flight of stairs to our sizable room. Understand the ballgame before booking here in the humid summer months. There is no elevator to the second floor or air conditioning. While that might be a deal breaker for you, I hope it won't. A mammoth plug-in fan next to the bed reduced the brunt of the broil. I just skipped sliding under the covers and was quite comfortable. I hauled my suitcase across 7 or so bridges in the walk from St. Mark's Square. What's one more staircase? The guest house was far from full, leaving the community bathroom rarely occupied. The shower featured some of the best water pressure during my time in Europe and plenty of space to hang or set clothes away from the commode and shower stall, a novelty among the places I stayed, especially the cruise ship. A community refrigerator allowed me to cool any water or soda bottles I had accrued. For the reasonable cost of 1-2 Euros, it also offered shelves filled with cold still and sparkling water and sodas. Did I mention the location? Good luck finding a better deal anywhere in Venice but especially on the Grand Canal. The view from my bedroom's front window was enchanting and breathtaking. While Favaretto's delightful simplicity may not include elaborate bells and whistles or round-the-clock desk service, astute travelers shouldn't need them. Consider this the perfect home base for walking and exploring Venice's crooked and less packed back streets. The one-bridge jaunt to catch an Alilaguna to Marco Polo (at 4 a.m. no less) was facile and a stress-free and bargain way to reach the airport on the mainland. In short, my stay at Casa Favaretto was wonderful, and I'll be back, especially when temperatures dip.

The hostel has been family run for 60 years and is currently run by Francesca, the sweetest woman. The hostel is impeccably clean, in the greatest location, and is so easy to get to from the airport. When we arrived we were welcomed by Francesca who showed us our room and made reservations at osteria alla Staffa (go!). She was so kind and accomodating through out the whole stay, and makes me wish there were more hostels like that in Italy! I would 100000% recommend it!

St. Mark's Basilica is also only a few minutes walk from here. Restaurants and shops are all within a couple hundred feet away. Every corner there is a bridge you can takes pictures at. Insanely beautiful. In the apartment we had, there was three balconies! Two in the living room & one in one of the bedrooms. Directly above the canal and can see gondolas + boats rowing by. Issues we had: Checking in was kind of a pain because the check in time is at 3:00pm/15:00 and we took an early train from Florence to Venezia Santa Lucia in Venice. They did not allow early check in and did not have a place for us to store our luggages. I messaged them through Whatsapp after talking on the phone with them & they preferred Whatsapp communication. They sent a link of a place where you could rent storage for your luggages, however, the website was in Italiano & could not get the website to work. There's four of us, so two of my family members stayed to watch the luggages & bags, while we walked around. They are a bit unresponsive but rooms were nice. Another issue we had was they have all these amenities such as washer but no laundry detergent, stove to cook but if you try to cook here, you'll be charged an extra €500, & toilet but didn't not provide toilet paper. Luckily we brought our own toilet paper lol. I would consider staying here again because the rooms are great sizes & apartment is nice, BUT for the price at €407, I think it could most definitely be better & could have provided MORE of just basic necessities that guests would literally need. I can imagine a guest needing to use the bathroom and not have toilet paper rolls. And if they were not as lucky as us, which we brought our own, that would be a terrible & annoying experience.

Some of the fixtures weren't in great shape either--the room just felt a bit run down or neglected. It was also pretty noisy--though this may be the norm for Venice, since everyone's in such close quarters. Our room was right on a narrow side-street which echoed with people in the morning. We also happened to be located right off of the breakfast dining room too. Sleep would not have been possible without earplugs. We don't regret having stayed here and we seriously loved the location. The price was pretty reasonable too. It just didn't "wow" us.
