Rouen does have a bit of an international crowd, and our server was bilingual in English. For words that were not easily translated, the whole restaurant rallied to make sure we understood what food we would be ordering. The atmosphere is decidedly comfortable and easygoing. I ordered a croque Normandie, a twist on the traditional croque monsieur. Normandy is known for a rich cream sauce which was ladled generously atop my sandwich. It was definitely heavy but a lovely option. My mom really ordered well with a salmon shepherd's pie (called a tarte on the menu) with a beautiful mixed salad on the side. When our orders came in, the chef sang in each option with a smattering of jokes for each patron. You can really feel the cheery ambiance here in the way waitstaff and chefs treat customers and each other. The staff seem to genuinely care about the food, the customers, and each other. The desserts are also excellent, even if standard fare. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is updated and convivial. I was desperate to find a good restaurant in Soissons -- this was the best I could find, which surprised me because most French towns of this size would have more options. As I was seated I noticed that there were already two corn bread muffins and a carafe of cold water waiting for me. It was a nice touch to already have them there. I ordered a Mojito as my aperitif and it was excellent! Because I was trying to eat light, the waiter helped me out by getting a larger dinner salad made for my appetizer even though it doesn't appear on the menu. I ordered the chicken breast with cheese sauce (Maroilles) and rice. The sauce was the best part, but really, it was "meh". Two large tables came in shortly after I arrived and although the waiters were constantly busy and friendly when they were waiting on me, I ended up having to wait much longer for each course of my meal, for the coffee afterwards, and for the check. This is why I give this restaurant four stars instead of five.
