Well, imagine my horror when I opened my bag and unwrapped what I thought I bought and realized. Instead of the butter cookie with the strawberry jam, which is what I indicated I wanted to buy. I instead had brownie style chocolate cake square. It was wrapped in cellophane so I just decided I would eat it on the plane. I didn't open it immediately but added it to my purse to be consumed the next day when I departed Paris. I would have returned it, to get my original desired treat, however, the store was closed and would not be open before I departed for the airport. When I went to enjoy it (on the plane). I took a bite and it was horrible. But I glanced a little closer and noticed it was MOLDED!!!! I tried my best to capture it in a picture. But this is totally disgusting and unacceptable! I'm obviously back in the states now. However, really wish I would have checked my items before packing them in my bag. I know it was unseasonably warm in Paris when I was there, however, it was obvious that brownie item which I didn't even request was NOT fresh. Groooooosssss

The North American section made me giggle. I grabbed some fancy French mustards and cookies to bring home for friends and family. Unsure if any locals actually come here or if it's ALL tourists. The layout was extremely confusing to me. Now, I'm sure there are some simply fantastic elements to this store that evaded me due to the sea of people inside. But, I think Erewhon had more going for it. Artistic, clean, bountiful displays of produce. More organization, better lighting, etc. I felt like I could actually see the products at Erewhon, whereas here I was fighting with a lot of noise.

Way bigger than I expected. Maybe the biggest market we have been to since arriving in France. Public toilets nearby, my first discovery. I felt like a kid trying to figure it out. FYI - The toilet cleans itself after each use, so be patient. Oh, and I can NOT recommend the urinal... Service - Good. They are here to sell. Price - From inexpensive to expensive. The beautiful sight of tissi's rotating in front of a fire breathing oven, potatoes in the tray below collecting the chicken juices as they fell, had me ready to run around the Bastille plaza yelling "LE MOUVEMENT!!". I thought this was going to be my first high level bird in the City of Light. Much to my chagrin, the one I got was just lukewarm. I was ready for my fingerprints to be fully burned off. There was so much potential here, but as always, I have to judge what's in front of me. If I don't have my integrity I have nothing. It landed at an 8.1/10 on the restaurant scale which is good, but if it was hot it could have been up there with the greats in the rare 9 territory. They have an excellent selection from bread to pastries and cakes to macaroons. By far the best macaroons I've ever had, though a little pricey, they are well worth it. My favourite out of the macaroons is the fig variety. There is a lot more to choose from compared to your average local bakery, they have many display windows with typical pastries, and even more displays with unique deserts and savoury pastries. They also have a small indoor seating area, cozy and lovely. If you're visiting Paris and the metro is accessible to you it is well worth a visit. The tramway line 3a is directly across the street, and on the weekends there is a local flea market, Puces de Vanves to be enjoyed less than a block away. They seem to go through waves of customers, so there is an ebb and flow to how many people will be there at any given moment, but the wait is never too long as the bakery is well staffed.
