Onion soup with the melted crispy cheese was to die for. Then the boullabaise was fresh and delicious. After having the warm, fresh-baked french baguette shortly after the sat down, I knew this was going to be a good ok one. The tomato tarte is a MUST GET! The combination of buttery flakes of phyllo paired with heirloom tomatoes and cheese - baked to a golden brown was ..... Almost better than chocolate. And nothing is better than chocolate. The salad & sea bass were delicious and the red velvet cake was moist with the perfect cream cheese icing. We drove up to Pomeroy from the city one Friday evening and had a great time. Pomeroy is nominally a French restaurant but its overall focus is seafood, and when you visit I recommend leaning into that. There is a raw bar with oysters, shrimp, and crab legs; and a lobster roll, boulliabaise, and three fish preparations on the menu. On Fridays there is a fourth - a Dover sole which is delicious and massive - it could easily be shared between two people. If we returned on a Friday night we would order one Dover sole and dive into the raw bar. Other French specialties - duck breast, coq au vin, beef Bourguignon - are relegated to one night specials. There is foie gras as an appetizer but I would avoid it - overpriced and undersized. The chicken liver mousse, however, is excellent as are the desserts. I strongly urge you to try the chocolate pot de creme and Kelly enjoyed her Red Velvet Cake. There is an extensive selection of white wines by the glass, as well as the bottle list, to accompany your fancy seafood feast. read more

My fiancé and I went to Pomeroy for dinner to celebrate our engagement and were blown away by the food and the service. Our waiter was exceptional, from making great recommendations to just tending our table, he helped make the night special. That goes for the front of house staff who also ensured my table was happy and had everything we needed. The dinning room was romantic and intimate but also had a good energy. It seemed everyone was having a good time too. We ordered the Escargots à la Bourguignonne for appetizer which my fiancé and I had never had but enjoyed quite a bit. Then we ordered the Mediterranean Sea Bass and the Coq Au Vin which were also both exceptional. I highly recommend coming here for dinner. My fiancé and I most certainly will be back. read more

Great food. Service was off. The host that greets you was dour. Like not happy. And there were like four of them. They were flummoxed that we didn't want to sit outside on a 90 degree day and said, "oh that's going to be a while" as they walked away and gave our table to someone else. We stood there among a lot of women wearing white pants, asking, what's going on for a few minutes and they handed us some flat champagne as a goodwill gesture. Didn't ask, just shoved it in our faces. Less than five minutes later we're seated in a tiny two top. The table can't be 20 inches wide. And it was right on top of the people to either side. The loudest people in the world dine at this restaurant. It felt like eating lunch at Lou Mitchell's. And our neighbors were loudly sharing their political views. We ordered a couple drinks. This place is the home of the world's smallest Manhattan. The waiter told me it was a "standard two ounces." It's served in a proper classic Manhattan glass but when you get maybe an ounce and a half of drink, without ice, it looks incredibly small. Embarrassingly small. Like how dare you charge $16 for this. I placed the obligatory Luxardo cherry into the drink and the beverage didn't cover the cherry. It was basically 3 sips. The waiter asked if "maybe I wanted a double." I told him I'm done. The food was delicious but slow. First course we had the escargot. It was good. Not outstanding but it's hard to screw up snails in garlic. We then ordered the steak tartar and a side of Brussels spouts as a second course. It took 27 minutes to arrive at our table from the time we ordered. The food was tasty but the Brussels sprouts weren't really roasted. A bit more soggy than they should have been. The tartar was bland. It needed salt. Some fancy large sea salt crystals would have worked wonders here. The main courses were good. Bouillabaisse $49 and a burger $21 but quite pricey for what it was. Supposedly there was lobster in there but we couldn't find it. The hamburger tasted like a yummy hamburger. $21? Sure why not. Make it $40. What's the difference? When my wife stepped away from the table, I pulled a manager aside to ask them to please put a candle in her dessert for her birthday. He said he'll take care of it. So ten minutes later, as we're eating our entrees, the manager walks up to our table and announces that "he took care of that for me." What did he take care of for you? Your special birthday surprise obviously. Overall, I really liked the food but there's no way I'm going back to spend $125+ perperson for this lackluster experience. read more

One of the nicest restaurants on the North Shore. The curb appeal is enticing and the interior matches it, classy and cozy at the same time. I understand they offer complimentary valet parking but there were spots available just across the street so we just parked ourselves. The doormen opening the doors for patrons are a nice touch, you don't see that much nowadays. The food was better than expected. It was simple and didn't try too hard, and everything we had was delicious. The best restaurants always shine when it comes to the simplest menu items. The Pommes Frites were definitely the best fries we have ever tasted. Green salad was also fantastic. Trout amandine was delicate and flavorful. Red velvet cake was tasty but not as amazing as the rest of the meal, however, the orange creme brulee was amazing. We merged from our server that many items on the menu have seasonal tweaks which is another sign of a quality restaurant with educated chef. We'll be back. read more

My husband and I came here to celebrate our 5th anniversary. The food and drinks were delicious! We got the onion soup to start and then he had the Mediterranean Sea Bass while I enjoyed the Sole. I guess I forgot how rich French cuisine was - lots of cream, milk and butter. There was as no room for dessert which I was hoping to try! Two knocks on our experience: first being we were seated in the bistro looking room and the chairs were incredibly uncomfortable. I'm 8 months pregnant and almost wanted to leave a few times mid meal, given my back was killing me. The second is the speed at which the food comes out. We had a full meal within 1 hour. It felt a little like turning tables was more a priority than allowing us to enjoy our evening out. (I didn't really mind it much though since my back was hurting but would have otherwise been more annoyed) That said, we would return though! I was excited to take my visiting daughter and her bf to Pomeroy today. When we sat at our outside table out back, it was covered with dead flies. We understand that can happen; but the fake-lashed bus girl acted quite rude when we asked her to replace the plates and wipe the table. We ordered two croissants; one appeared but the food runner tried to give it to the table next to us - those people had just arrived. The second one never arrived, nor did the bread we requested. It was not terribly busy, but our waiter was scarce. He never asked if we wanted a second drink (we did) and after finally delivering the check, did not return for quite some time for my credit card. We were surprised by the 3% service charge, and would have asked for it to be removed (apparently that's an option) if we had time to wait for the adjustment. Lovely/moody ambiance, good service and yummy food - I'd definitely come back! A girlfriend and I split the Pomeroy salad, onion soup, chicken, and fries and it was a perfect meal portion wise and all tasted delicious. Heads up: they don't do GF substitutions for their gluten meals (such as pasta), but there are plenty of GF options on the menu for those that need it. The garlic aioli with the fries was super tasty! It had been a long day so I also started my meal with a filthy vodka martini which hit the spot and was the perfect amount of filthy. We had a couple of nice experiences here but the last time really turned us off. The back patio is extremely loud, and not where we would have liked to have sat, despite having reservations. The food this time felt overpriced and not memorable, but the waitstaff remains consistently good. The unforgivable part was the behavior of some of the other guests, who were disruptive, rude, loud, and hostile to elderly people at the next table when the older people had finally had enough. Despite being in the wrong, the manager was fawning all over them. They not only ruined the elderly people's night but were a true nuisance to many other diners paying a hefty sum for the experience. This restaurant seems to be a big draw for arrogant locals looking for a place to see and be seen...and HEARD. read more

I feel like I would consider myself a restaurant snob at this point-after all we live in one of the greatest cities in the world for food selection. So why may you ask would I ever leave to go to the suburbs to have dinner? Well one of my friends lives up there and we try to find cute places that compare to those in the city. I will say Pomeroy exceeded my expectations and I will no longer hate on the suburbs. I do recommend if it's nice out to go the back patio it's adorable in there. Coffee was just a touch underwhelming and there were some tiny missteps in executing some of the dishes (were those green grapes really fresh and presentable enough to ho in that salad? The energy and crowds feels very much like a city restaurant pre-pandemic. I struck out on Sat night reservations a few times, but had luck scoring a reservation on a Friday night for a party of 4. It was a cold February night, but that didn't stop people from heating outside. Their heaters looked good, but eating outside in February is a little much for my Florida blood. The inside of the restaurant was absolutely packed and it felt kind of scary to be returning to a pre-pandemic world. However, 10 min and a martini later I adjusted just fine. So much deliciousness to choose from on the menu. I started w/ the salad verde (simple, yet tasty). My husband and I split the trout and the sole (fri night special). I was hoping to be healthy and get the sauce on the side, but the waiter convinced me not to since that's the best part...and he was right. We also got a bunch of sides to split among our party of 4, which were all delish... the fries being my favorite. We finished with a pot de creme for dessert and I can see why this is one of the most popular restaurants in the North Shore right now. My only complaint was the steep flight of stairs down to the restroom, which can be a bit tricky in heels after a few martinis. So beware or hold it til you get home. :) We'll be back..as soon as we can get another reservation. read more

Feels like an authentic French Brasserie when you enter with dark red leather seating and a variety of booths and tables with a lively bar in the center. The friendly and attentive wait staff greeted us immediately and offered warm bread and water for the table. The menu featured traditional French staples and we tried the tomato tarte, trout almandine, risotto au champignons, frites, macaroni au gratin and pear tarte. We loved the trout and risotto but were underwhelmed by the frites (served warm not hot), the tomato tarte and dessert pear tarte. The pear tarte had good flavor but lacked a crisp base and everything was a bit goopy with the gelato a la mode and soft fruit melding together. Had a lovely dinner at Pomeroy, the food was very good and the service was good as well. We sat outside on the back patio so the ambiance was lovely. We got the baguette to start which was really tasty but the butter was even better than the bread itself! We split the heirloom tomato salad which was very flavorful and well balanced. I had the bouillabaisse and was pleasantly surprised- very wonderful flavors and great assortment of seafood - the saffron broth was perfect. My sister got the chicken which she said was delicious. For dessert we got the profiteroles which were lovely, the pastry was soft and pillowy and the chocolate sauce was bittersweet perfection. We also got the red velvet cake which was absolutely delicious - not too sweet, just the right balance of tang and sweet in the cream cheese frosting and a very soft cake. read more

Anniversary dinner. The little things matter, and they were all excellent. So were the big things. Staring with the little -- custom menus acknowledging our anniversary. Sure, it's just a laser printer...but it was a lovely gesture (as were a couple of others along the way). On to the big. GREAT space. Used to be a lighting store, apparently. Windows open on this lovely night -- we were inside right on the window -- there is also completely indoor seating and, weather permitting, sidewalk seating. Lovely bar, too. Service was absolutely outstanding. Attentive without being obtrusive. Friendly. Thoughtful. Great advice on the menu and on wine pairings. We split a tuna tartare and salad as apps...both were fabulous. I had a short rib special which was predictably outstanding. My wife had the halibut. We had red velvet cake for dessert. Again, all spot on. You can really tell the quality of a place by how they handle hiccups. We had a small one, the details of which I won't bore you with, and their response to it hit the ball out of the park. We will be back --- frequently -- ourselves and with friends. Came here for my birthday with friends and had an absolutely lovely time. The ambience is lively but it's not so loud that you can't hear your companions. The service is top notch and even though you have your waiter, the bus boys and managers are all constantly checking in to make sure everything is perfect. As we walked in, I was a bit surprised by how busy they were already! It wasn't even 5:30 and the restaurant was technically full! The pan seared foie gras on pain perdu was the star of the night! Sooo good! Probably the best foie gras I have had! Mussels and escargots were really fresh. Pomeroy is our favorite special occasion place. It's hard to strike the balance between celebratory and snooty. This place has a nice fancy, dress-up feel without being too precious or self-impressed. We ordered the large seafood tower for four, split two salads and a French onion soup and then went straight to dessert. We ordered four in addition to the red velvet cake they brought her. It was Bacchanalia haha. Our hands down favorite around the table was the orange scented crème brûlée. The wait staff was cheerful and attentive but never rushed us. We sat for three hours and ate and drank and talked and relaxed and dined. We live close to downtown but Pomeroy is worth driving up for. We missed our daughter's 21st birthday last year so we wanted to do something special this year. We let them know ahead of time that we were celebrating and they surprised her with a personalized menu, a champagne toast and a special dessert. The northshore of Chicago has always been a place with great architecture & green spaces. What it lacked was the options and diversity of the Chicago restaurant scene. It certainly seems like things are starting to change, and these suburban areas are realizing they need to build up "downtown areas" for their residents. This restaurant offers dinner starting at 4:30 all week. On Saturday & Sunday they also offer a brunch and lunch menu, Pomeroy could be slapped in the middle of streeterville with how great the food quality is, and how well the space is decorated. The interior is open with a large bar area and plenty of seating options. There's also outdoor seating options for the warmer months. The menu is expansive with tons of French classics. There is a daily entree special every day that's set by weekday. When we dined there was also an additional appetizer special available. The menu is very easy to understand with all the dishes placed into a section. Appetizers, charcuterie, salads, seafood section, side dishes, entrees as well as an "avec frites" section which is items served with fries. They also have a pretty decent cocktail list and an extensive wine list. For cocktails we tried the bad apple & the le spritz. Both were creative, but the le spritz was the favorite. I loved their take on this classic drink. I went with a group of 3 other people and we had a very hard time deciding what to order since there were many delicious options. For appetizers we started with the baguette with butter, honestly I'm always a little miffed when places charge for a standard bread & butter, it was good though I wouldn't order it again. We also ordered the steak tartare, tomato tart, and an appetizer special of duck confit toast. All the appetizers were well presented and extremely tasty. We all really loved the tomato tart, which was surprising as it was the most simplistic item we ordered besides the baguette. For entrees I ordered the classic steak & frites (steak a la bordelaise), my friends got the lobster roll, risotto aux champignons, mussels and a side of macaroni au gratin. The steak was cooked a perfect medium rare, and was soft and buttery. The bordelaise sauce was rich and delicious. The fries were nice and crispy. I tried the risotto which was very rich and had a great truffle flavor. My friend added chicken to it, and I think there was an option to add seafood or meat. The sauce the mussels came in was very flavorful, and they served a ton of mussels. It was suppose to come with fries, but my friend was able to get the Mac au gratin instead. We were all extremely happy with our choices, and thought everything was well prepared & flavorful. For dessert we shared the chocolate pot de creme, and the profiteroles glacees. I wish the profiteroles were just the standard ones, and not ice cream but they were tasty. We really enjoyed the pot de creme as well. It was a big portion! I highly recommend Pomeroy. Everything from the ambiance to the food quality is excellent! If you're looking for a good French bistro this is a solid option in Chicagoland. read more
