Found ourselves up in Yonkers on a cold rainy day in need of some comfort food, of course we'd turn to Yelp to help guide us to the right choice. Pondfield Cafe looked like a great place to grab a hot meal and glad we made the choice. Food: Comfort, diner food at it's best. Lots of enticing options but seemed a lot of the diners where ordering breakfast dishes at 11:30 am so what's good for the regulars is definitely good for me! Ordered the pancake special that came with two pancakes (had them change it to banana nut), two eggs, two slices of bacon, a slice of sausage. Of course I had to have the request cup of joe, black, to wash it all down. Food was wonderful and just what I was looking for. Service: Great service and I love that the staff knew and greeted a large number of the patrons by first name. Really friendly and fast, we sat at the counter and it was great to watch them push all that food out as we got to see what everyone was ordering. They were very busy but no complaints every from the staff. Atmosphere: Great space, small town diner with a counter and several tables. Not large restaurant and we were happy to grab the counter seats. Love these types of places where they really care about their customers. Value: Great value for comfort food done right. Large portions at a low price equals happy customers. Overall: I really enjoyed my time spent in Pondfield Diner, fine dining and fancy restaurants are nice but these types of places (apologies for the corniness) really nourish the soul! read more

Ok place to go. I ordered two eggs, corn beef hash, with a side of turkey bacon. Food nothing to write home about, just your everyday diner food. The service was great, welcoming and made you feel like family. I don't know if I would wait out in the cold for this place, but I will return. 1 star off because it is a little pricey and is cash only. Who still has cash? This is a great little breakfast/lunch spot located right off the Bronx River Parkway. I came here for breakfast on my day off after hearing good things about it from friends and family. The restaurant itself is small and narrow; I came on a Thursday morning and was seated right away but can imagine a long wait on the weekends. There are ~10 tables plus seating at the counter - the place was busy but I didn't feel cramped. The menu has a number of breakfast items - omelettes, sandwiches, pancakes, waffles, etc. I decided on the broccoli and cheddar omelette which came with home fries and toast. The omelette was big and fluffy with a generous amount of broccoli and cheese. The home fries weren't necessary home fries, but rather sliced fried potatoes. I didn't mind though because they were tasty; it also made it easier to dip them in ketchup - no fork required! One thing to note is for most beverages (including coffee) your first refill is free but then they charge for subsequent refills; it was kind of a turnoff - I mean really, what diner doesn't have bottomless coffee? This place is also cash only, so make sure you come prepared. There's no parking lot either - make sure to bring quarters for the meter! Delicious! A FOLDED omelet!!! Yes! Yay to Chef Kenny for making a true omelet. I stopped ordering omelets years ago because most places think scrambling ingredients in eggs then rolling it up is an omelet! Here the individual ingredients are prepared, then the egg is skillfully cooked in a paper thin layer BEFORE adding the other ingredients to be beautifully FOLDED INSIDE the lovely egg wrap! The result is being able to taste EACH ingredient within the yummy egg wrap. Good job Pondfield Cafe! P.S. The food here is "ok", nothing special. I'm speaking of the thurs night dinners and the breakfast and lunch. It's a convenient local place. The service is amateurish lacking any and all formality or polish but that's ok. You can only order with or pay the lady (I guess they had problems with theft??), which is fine, except when she disappears for ten or more minutes when you want to pay your bill. Sue was very friendly, and actively listened instead of just getting ready to respond. The music was amazing (Low volume Lithium radio reminds me of KRock from the 90's. Many attentive servers. Good selection of hot sauces. And the food. Wow. Amazing. The Pondfield BLT is a BLT with fried chicken. The chicken was juicy and the bacon was crispy. I love pancakes. I did a search on where to find the best pancakes in my area. Pondfield Cafe came up. One of the reviewers said this place has better pancakes than Cracker Barrel, so I had to check it out. The place was packed, which I suppose is a good sign on this holiday morning. The cashier/hostess was super friendly and you can tell this place has a lot of regulars because of the banter she made with them. The menu advertised 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon and a sausage patty for 10 bucks. As I said, I love pancakes, so I need 3 pancakes. I ordered 2 orders of 3 pancakes, eggs and bacon to go. The cashier seemed confused and said she would try to get me that without me costing a fortune. I didn't think it would be that much more expensive since I wasn't getting sausage. I was totally surprised when the bill came up to $29! Granted, I did have a large cup of coffee, but it definitely wasn't Kona or Jamaican Blue Mountain, so I doubt it cost 6 or 7 bucks. Well, if the food is good, maybe it would be worth it. Unfortunately, the food was just okay. I love pancakes with some body and character - crispy edges, golden brown and a thick, fluffy interior. These pancakes were paper thin and pale yellow. The 3 pancakes would add up to one pancake that I've received at some other restaurants. Overall, I must say I am disappointed. This was our second time at this local favorite. I really enjoyed my blueberry pancakes with scrambled eggs and turkey bacon. Even though we came relatively early, the place was packed. We put our name on the waiting list and only waited twenty minutes to be seated. We remembered from our previous visit to walk with cash since they do not accept credit or debit cards at the establishment. I don't have any qualms with this place and I'm sure we will be back again. My only wish is that they had espresso but the regular coffee isn't bad. A tiny local breakfast place that reminds me of a cheers like setting where they get to know your name. Oatmeal is a nice thick consistency and filling. So 4 of had breakfast and 2 people had eggs sandwiches which they both said were very good. we also had the French toast with apples which had nice flavor and not over whelming.
