4 stars. Went to Ponte Vecchio this past Saturday evening with a party of 10 people total. Normally, when we make a reservation to come here, we still wait for our table, but this past weekend, we were seated right away, which was great. The servers were attentive and the food was good. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 was there are no notices posted in the restaurant regarding the fact that the patrons are penalized for using their credit cards( which in my opinion should be part of the restaurant's overhead and expense to bear) nothing was by the server informong us of this and the only reason I found it was because I notice a line on the bill under OPERATING FEE. I questioned the server and then it was explained. We paid cash, but the moral of the story is make sure you look at your bill!!! read more

I visited this location for lunch with a friend who had great experiences here. I was a little leery because of the reviews, but I decided to not suggest another spot. Parking is plentiful in the rear parking lot. Upscale white tablecloth interior.. looks a little dated, but not in a off putting way. Steve, our server, was very friendly and attentive. They have a lunch menu.. don't judge but I went to an Italian restaurant and ordered sashimi tuna over seaweed salad.. hey, it is right before the holidays and I have goals lol. My friend's eggplant rollatini and pasta looked vibrant and amazing. She really enjoyed it. There are thousand, and 1, Italian spots in the great State, but at least it is on my radar to try if I'm ever in the area again. And next time, I'm getting something carby lol. read more

When we were back in NJ visiting friends and relatives we had dinner at an old favorite, Ponte Vecchio. Ponte Vecchio serves really good Italian food in a nice atmosphere. Our recent visit was just as good as all our previous visits. Started with an appetizer of Stuffed Mushrooms, Baked with Fresh Lump Crabmeat Imperial. Delicious (unfortunately no photo). Our entrees continued the high quality. I had the Berkshire Double Cut Pork Chop, Rib Pork Chop Grilled with Sweet Vinegar Peppers, Onions, Crispy Potatoes and Broccoli Rabe. Huge chop, awesome flavors. DW had the Seafood Capellini, Shrimp and Lobster Sautéed in Olive Oil, Garlic and White Wine, Garnished with Baby Clams and Mussels over Thin Pasta. Another great entree. Way too full for dessert, actually we had leftovers for lunch the next day. Service at Ponte Vecchio is always friendly, informative and as the portions are ample you are never rushed which is a real plus. Went to Ponte Vecchio tonight to celebrate our friend's special birthday. She had a private room for her guests . Our food started out with appetizers: fried calamari, very tasty and done just right, stuffed mushrooms that were tender and tasty, shrimp in a red sauce with a little kick and eggplant. Our salad was a choice of Caesar or tossed mesculine. The salad was overdone with cheese and brown and wilted. Disappointed to say the least. The choice of main dishes were salmon topped with a chopped tomato salsa, julienne vegetables on the hard side and baby roasted potatoes; chicken franchise that had too much lemon and a pasta dish. And yes, this was what happened to us. No way could this place put out quality on such a scale. I'm not from around this area and met friends here at a halfway point between us. This place seemed to be a good place to meet for dinner. Well, none of us enjoyed the food and the service was very slow as expected. The food here is pretty much subpar Pizzeria food. The service is ok. The presentation of food is terrible. Food was just thrown on the plates. When I asked the waiter the difference between the Oyster special and the regular menu oyster app he said that the special was fresher oysters. then the grilled octopus looked like some bean soup dish. We ordered burratta and grilled tomatoes and they gave us mozzarella and sliced tomatoes. 3 people ordered the seafood capalini which had no flavor other than garlic and mushy pasta. The crabcake dinner was doused in a fake lemon flavored yellow sauce. The upside was dessert was good. Again presentation everything is just thrown on plates. For $400 with no cocktails since it's BYO. They can keep it. Not sure how this place was packed. But this is a one and done for sure. read more

This is a great BYOB Italian restaurant that offers a lot of seafood options. Our party of 12 was easily accommodated (with a reservation, of course) without feeling cramped. There were other large parties there as well for communions, and it still didn't feel like we were crammed together. The staff, including the kitchen, worked seamlessly even with all the parties going on at once - there were no noticeable delays for anything; our glasses were always full and all the courses came out hot. We ordered a variety of appetizers for the entire table. A few that were specials (Buratta and the Grilled Octopus) and few regular menu options (Hot Antipasto for 2 and the Fresh Mozzarella). All of it was delicious!! The specials seem to change everyday, and there are quite a few, so I suggest checking the website ahead of time because it does get updated on there. Our server was helpful and even left his paper with us to review. My husband and I both ordered our entrees from the specials menu. He loves Branzino so that was an obvious choice for him. He was given the option of having it whole or filleted; he chose to have it prepared whole, which he said was good, but in hindsight he wished he got it filleted so he didn't have to pick through the bones. He said it was delicious regardless! I ordered the Petit Tenderloin with 2 stuffed jumbo shrimp. My tenderloin was cooked perfectly with the nicest porcini Demi-glaze.. and lots of it! Everyone at the table seemed to enjoy all their meals as well. There were either clean plates or leftovers packed up to take home. Dessert was a must especially since we were celebrating a birthday. Our server came out with a tray of numerous options to satisfy everyone's sweet tooth. In the end, our table ordered a bunch of desserts, from coffees, to New York style cheesecake, to mini cannolis, so something called the Nutty Almond Joy. Great endings to a great meal. Came here for a family dinner. Service is attentive, menu is northern Italian staples. Menu does not have gluten free items labeled so had to search a bit for what I could eat and ask more questions. Explained my gluten sensitivity to the waiter, he assured me that my dish would be gluten free. I ordered the scallops with risotto and I noticed the crispy leeks and should have asked more questions, but my dish still came out with the flour-coated crispy leeks on it. For that reason I would not consider this a celiac-safe restaurant. The scallops were delicious and lemony with capers. Would definitely get this again. My family member got the cowboy steak and gave me a taste and the texture was amazing, super tender and it was cooked to perfection. Ponte Vecchio is a famous medieval arch bridge in Florance, Italy, but of more significance to me is that it is also a phenomenal Italian restaurant in Old Bridge, NJ. Old friends Larry L'Hotta and Debbie are in NJ for their annual NJ visit, back home from Colorado. Larry and I attended the Police Academy together almost 50 years ago. First time at Ponte Vecchio and it turned out to be a great choice. Luxurious, classy, upscale looking restaurant with a definite casual Italian vibe. White linen, carefully appoined tables set the mood as you are surrounded with attractive murals, warm colors, and thoughtful architecture you would probably find in Florance. Our server, Genesis, was exceptional. Attentive, friendly, personable and helpful. Tony Di Rocco, the amiable owner of Ponte Vecchio, also came by our table to chat. Turns out that Tony only lives about 5 miles from me in Hanover. The food was outstanding! For apps we went with Stone Shrimp Arrabbiata which was perfect; spicy and garlicky with a nice bite of red chili and EVOO, and the Burrata with red and sweet golden beets. Entrees included my Seafood Fra Diavolo, loaded with sautéed fresh shrimp, scallops, clams, mussels, calamari; all in a spicy (I asked for extra spicy)red sauce and piled over a generous amount of al dente linguine. My guest had the grilled 18oz. Berkshire Double Cut Pork Chop, with peppers, onions, crispy potatoes and spinach. Thumbs up on that as well. The portions are as large as they were delicious and both Larry and Deb had to take half their meals home. Of course, I finished mine. (Gavone). Oh yeah, don't forget the decadent desserts (see pic), along with that finishing cappuccino. If you're in the area and looking for a high quality, reasonably priced, Italian restaurant I would highly recommend Ponte Vecchio. When the last of our group arrived, we were given many options for appetizers. With a group of people I recommend sharing the hot & cold apps. They are only $14 a person and gives you a mixture of most of the popular apps. The eggplant rollatini was clearly my favorite of all of them. Truth be told, if you're not careful the apps alone could make up the whole meal. For our entrees,she had the Orecchiette pasta and I chose papardella bolognese. Portions here are very hearty. Very nice menu with plenty to choose from and the specials just went on and on. Came here for the first time in a while in probably like 15 years. Parking was a little bit difficult. I had to drive around a couple spots to finally find some thing available upon walking and we were greeted and seated right away. Our server was very nice. I do have to comment that when delivering the specials, it was a bit of information overload I have to be honest. Sometimes you just lose focus and start zoning out because they list too many items -- a suggestion would be maybe put a paper in everyone's menu with the specials for them to read instead? Ponte Vecchio is part of the same ownership group as Lou Cas in Edison and Frescos in Milltown. The menu's are all very similar and the food is all prepared the same way. Solid experience with a large group. Service was good considering the size of our crowd. Appetizers are probably my favorite part of the meal when dining with this ownership group, the seafood tower is always very good. The seafood is extremely fresh, the tower includes cold lobster tails, seafood salad, clams, oysters and ahi tuna. For the entree I went with the 24 oz rib eye served with mashed potatoes, onion rings, and broccolini. The steak was disappointing, not nearly the cut I normally get from Fresco's. The steak was very fatty and was thinner than I expected. It was cooked to a greater level of fineness than I prefer, more well than medium. The sides were very good. Folks had desserts which were fine from what I am told, I had an espresso and it was not good. Not sure what brand of coffee they use but it was not enjoyable. All in all we had a good time, but I am in no rush to go back.....parking can be extremely difficult depending on what day and time you are pulling in. read more
