First is the lake itself -a gorgeous 29-acre pond with a strip of sandy beach front, grassy shaded picnic area, benches and swings. On the other side of the road is a forest with a network of forest trail walks. The trail is mostly flat and made of crushed stone. We parked by the main entrance at the beach and headed north on the well marked Main Trail before we peeled off to the right to walk the Loop Trail which eventually rejoined the Main Trail and took us back to our car. It was peaceful and tranquil today as the only other soul we saw was a young lady jogging along to her music. It was gorgeous out there- the trees were bare of leaves in preparation of the inevitable harsh winter and we agreed it was one of the better hikes we'd had in a while. One cool thing we saw on the Loop Trail was a humongous boulder off on the side of the trail. It appears on the trail map as (you guessed it) "Boulder".

Snow is very soft and powdery. It seems people snowshoe here 3 miles, but not further. We snowshoe 6 miles, so was breaking trail a lot. It was scenic and nice.

You will not be able to find it unless you get a local as the tour guide. The best way to go down to diesel lake, is to go down to the lake streets all the way to the end of the lake street. Then turn right go into the fourth Street. In the corner of Lake Street and fourth Street you will see the entrance of the lake. It's a good trail to just walk around the lake or do some jogging in the morning if you are in the neighborhood.

It's very well manicured making it impossible to get lost. Easy enough for beginners but the more advanced will not be disappointed by the spectacular waterfall cascades. I blog about waterfalls and the hill towns offer many. But Glendale Falls is one of my favorites that I return to. It's a hidden gem.

Take…read morethe entrance path which is about half a mile, and you will come across some cool ruins like trucks and derricks. From there, it's just a short walk to the quarry, which is now full of water and quite lovely to look at. We learned (thanks, informational signage!) that the quarry was active from the 1860s-1940s. When it closed, the workers left machinery, which is still there in all its rusty glory. This was a nice stop on our way back to Boston from the Berkshires!

I visited in the middle of a January…read moredeep freeze, when the ground was fully snow-covered, so I can't speak to how it's maintained at other times of year, but the facility itself is great. Just over 1.5 acres, split about 40/60 into separate small dog and large dog areas (where rules indicate small dogs can go in large dog area at owner's risk, but not vice versa). Large trees within fenced acreage, double gates at the entrance, pet waste bag and disposal stations, dog water fountain (seasonal), and a couple benches. It's listed on the city website as 500 Lakeway Dr, but that address will take you far from the dog park section. Better to put 'Burbank Park' in your navigation app, and it's the first left after the big Burbank Park entrance sign.

About the beach itself, it resides on a sizeable property, and they have a few chairs for sitting and relaxing while watching the calm lake in front. The sand seems smooth, so during the summer time I'm sure it's a fun place to swim and sunbath. There is a building with canoes and other types of boats on the property, but when I visited it was closed. Def a place to check out if you're ever at Kripalu.
