Easy access to/from I-5, plentiful parking, and seated immediately at a booth by an upbeat wait person. Music from the 1970s & 1980s playing, so this GenXer was pleased. Given pint glasses of ice water, declined coffee service, and gave a quick look of the menu, great selection for breakfast/brunch/lunch crowd. The Homie and I decided to split the Corned Beef Hash, which also came with 3 overeasy eggs, hash browns, and a buttermilk biscuit smothered with sausage gravy. Happy to receive an extra plate with no upcharge. This was perfect to whet the appetite, but not bog us down and go into a food coma while back on the road. Food came out relatively fast, fresh and piping hot! Generous serving and tasty food all around. We also able to receive and pay our check in good time, despite all the tables our waitperson was covering. We paused before heading out to stare at their merch and the baked goods. Always good food but today's (1/2/26) lunch service was not great. I can't count on both hands how many times the server walked by our table and said nothing. We actually had to not only close the menu but put them at the end of the table and still it took her 4-5 more walk by's to ask what we wanted. Not great service and other times we have had good service. Once the food came (delivered by another server) our server never showed back up, she walked by the table multiple times and stopped by other tables and chatted with them quite often but ours, nope. Like pulled out of a time capsule from the 1950's, the poodle dog has been an institution in Fife for almost a century. I grew up in Tacoma and I'm surprised I haven't eaten here more since we moved here in the late 80's. The prices have gone up but what restaurant hasn't had to raise prices in this current economy with current administration. Yeah it sucks but we need to support our local businesses or they will all disappear. We stopped in around 1130 and it was super busy. We got seated quickly and our server took our order right away. She was friendly and attentive. Food was your standard diner fare, we had the chicken fried steak and landmark platter. Large portions. The gravy was just okay and eggs were on the harder side than what I prefer. Bill came out to around $50 with drinks. Loved the nostalgic vibe and hope to be back soon. read more

This is a good restaurant. The HORDES of people showing up on a Sunday could NOT be wrong. It really IS a good restaurant with delicious food. Unfortunately, our particular waitress was not feeling the vibe. It's a cool diner that's been open forever, with a giant menu, and to me, it should have that (and mostly does) cozy, homey, folksy, route 66 vibe. TBH, it didn't have it as much as I had expected, which is FINE, but the waitress DEF was not feeling much of anything. She was slow, she never asked us if we liked the food, if we needed anything (besides coffee which actually she just poured w/o asking until I moved the cup out of arm's reach), never asked if we wanted anything else (we did - we had to ask for the dessert menu ourselves), and so on. She wasn't mean or anything. She was just kind of phoning it in. The folks at the door were very cheerful and could give some lessons to the person that served us. As for the food, everything we got was delicious. We tried some unusual lunch items, a milkshake, and dessert, and all were top notch. The restaurant is fairly large, and even with the constant arrival of patrons they got everyone seated quickly. There is also a semi-separate lounge section on the other end. Came here for breakfast on a Monday morning and it was sooooo busy. That kind of surprised me. But the service was great! Even though we had a big party, they were still prepared for us. Didn't take long to have our orders taken nor get our food. The strawberry French toast looked like a breakfast lovers masterpiece. I could see my kids eyes light up when it came to the table. 10/10 And my Turkey Supreme was excellent! 9/10! The avocado and crispy bacon were perfect. Just wish it was a tad bigger for the price. I have had my wish granted! I finally had a breakfast at the Poodle Dog! It was a late anniversary gift from my husband. This breakfast was fit for a princess. The Pancakes were dinner plate sizes. I had to share my breakfast. I did split it into breakfast and lunch. I was still able to share it with my husband and son. The fruit and whip was plenty for all pancakes. The eggs were so good! And everything was packaged so nice. It felt like room service. Poodle Dog: I thank you for your service! You will be getting a visit from me in person soon! I love breakfast at different times of day and it is a place that I will keep in mind when I crave breakfast for dinner! As I am writing this review, I am finishing up the pancakes for lunch. One of my family's favorite breakfast spots. On the weekends it can get noticeably busy after 9am, so I highly suggest coming early if you have a ground larger than 4, since most of their seating is 4 person booth style! I used to work nearby the Poodle Dog and regularly had lunch there. After retirement, those visits ended. But I missed the Dog and being in the area on an early Sunday meant a stop. The Monte Cristo was a dream: crisp on the outside, melty ham and cheese on the inside, with a side of jam that brought it all together. The BLTA? Loaded, crunchy bacon, fresh everything, and stacked high. We also grabbed the French toast--thick-cut and buttery with just the right amount of syrup soak. For the little one, the kids' chicken and fries were a hit, and the restaurant gets major points for offering crayons and coloring paper--kept our toddler entertained and happy while we sipped coffee in peace. Was greeted warmly and seated quickly. Settled on the Landmark Breakfast as it gave a decent variety. Was served quickly and it looked picture perfect. Lots of food. Thick bacon was flavorful. Golden hash browns. Fluffy eggs. All was cooked well. I brought the ham and half of the rest home. I thought the pup room might be for kids but it is an AM & PM happy hour bar. This review is for the bar side only: We walked in and were ignored. Don't bother visiting if you're not a male regular. It's sad too. This used to be a favorite spot for us. The ambiance in the bar is upscale and completely different than the diner side restaurant, but when servers completely ignore you, there's no point in visiting again. We were regulars (at least once or twice a month visitors) because we loved the service and friendliness of a bartender/waitress there named Mel. Wow, this place has jacked up prices and not improved much of anything. For context, we've been coming here once or twice a month for breakfast and have generally enjoyed our experience and food for the past year or so. And I went there as a kid. Fast forward to a few minutes ago. Not only was each entree that we ordered for breakfast just shy of $20, but they now tack on a 3%+ service charge for credit cards. Then, the coup de grace, they have the audacity to charge SIX DOLLARS for a biscuit that is no bigger than 2" high and 3" in diameter. Our server claimed "tariffs" as the cause, but the tariff implications aren't here yet, this is straight up money gouging like they got bought by a VC. Legit never going back, which sucks because the food is good. Screw them. Poodle Dog Restaurant since 1933. In Fife, WA I had high hopes of this being a good restaurant with decent food for $18-$21 a plate. It is a big restaurant. It seats a lot of people. My expectations were high because I saw advertisements of really amazing looking food. And I read a lot of positive reviews. But the reality is so much different. The service started off strong and then fell off and we didn't see the server the rest of our meal. Being in the state of Washington, I would expect fresh berries on my crepe, But nope, they were slimy, discolored frozen strawberries. The crepe was so wet. It wasn't even edible... But I ate it because I was hungry. We waited over 20 minutes for our meal. Crepes usually have the cream inside with the berries on top but not here. Additional berries inside the crate made it really wet. Not attractive, not palpable. My daughter had a potato pancake meal and the pancakes were made of hash browns and they were burned... The eggs were cold and the meal was bordering on cold because it sat a long time before it was served. Absolute garbage to serve up for $41. read more
