Stopped in while driving through on Memorial Day. It was fairly slow with most folks choosing to sit inside the bar. Our group of 6 choose to sit in the "game area" and enjoy these options. We enjoyed our food but our server didn't pay attention to our table. We were the only ones- but still paying our bill. If I had to guess, she enjoyed spending time at the bar with friends or regulars. We loved the layout of the place and it had a fun vibe: jenga, corn hole, darts, pool, and bocce were options. I'll start by saying that the atmosphere here is pretty cool. A lot to do in the way of games and activities. Beer was good as we had a few beers. Now the food however had its issues. I'll start by saying that there was only one person working the entire restaurant and he was the bartender. So that had to be extremely challenging for him. There was 5 of us and we all ordered food. All of the food came out cold. This was odd because I felt the food came out in a timely fashion so it definitely wasn't sitting waiting for service. My wife mentioned it seemed like they cooked one thing at a time and everything waited while the other food cooked. Her wings were cold and had a very odd consistency to them. My burger had good flavor but again was cold. The icing on top of the cake was that the credit card machine wasn't working. So we had to pay the ATM to get cash out to pay the bill. That was pretty frustrating as it cost us an extra $6 to be able to tip the server/bartender. Not sure what happened as this place had good reviews and seems to have potential but we had a pretty rough experience. read more

Horrible! Waited 15 minutes (at the bar) to even get either bartenders attention. Ordered wings, but they came out and were what looked like, chicken nuggets. I told the girl "that's not what I ordered." She looked at me like WTF!!! Wings then come out and have no sauce. The sauce was in little cups in the basket. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and my husband ordered the bologna sandwich. Mine was drenched in cheese and disgusting. My husband's was what I guess exactly what he ordered..... a bologna sandwich.... Plain, nothing on it. Bartender never came to check on us... too busy on her phone. We won't be back.!!!! We had a wonderful time at Pookie's today! The staff was incredibly friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They have three immaculate indoor bocce courts which were so much fun! We stopped here with our toddler in the middle of a long drive and they were so welcoming. They even invited her to crawl around on the bocce courts (there wasn't anyone playing). The food was great, the drinks were amazing and the place was very clean and welcoming. We will be back!!! read more

If all you want to do is sit at the bar and get sloshed, this might be the place for you. There was a good bit of that going on. If you want a good bar burger and a few beers, keep looking. My wife and I visited Pookie's this evening. We won't be back. The beer special (BL Platinum) sold out at 5:10. How does a bar sell out of the advertised daily drink special just as most folks are getting out of work? We each ordered burgers and fries, mine the namesake "Pookie Burger". We also ordered onion rings to share. After waiting 20 minutes for our beers (not the sold out special of the day), our onion rings came. Meh. So so. Cheap frozen breaded (I.e. Neither fresh nor battered). Ok. It's a bar not a gastro pub. I accept that. A quick reminder that we also ordered beers did eventually get our thirsts addressed. Burgers came next. They were OK. Just OK. Can't knock them. Can't praise them. Toasted buns of nice quality, decent toppings lettuce onion pickle tomatoes. Mustard and catsup at the table. Fries were well cooked and nicely seasoned. Good portions for both. One quick check "how is everything" after second bite. Not another stop by the table by anyone for another 20 minutes. My beer was empty. They do sell beer here right? My wife asked for a to-go box for her leftovers when I asked for the check. Neither ever arrived. And I'm pretty sure it was the owner that dropped the ball on that one. BTW we were passed off to three different folks during our visit. I'm sure that made us easy to forget about. Finally I just went to the bar to ask for a check. THERE we got prompt service by a young lady who was sincerely very apologetic. If you want to try this place for dinner I would suggest going quickly. I doubt they will be open very long without a major overhaul. read more

The food was pretty good. We got mozzarella sticks, mushrooms and ravioli for an appetizer which were all good except the ravioli. I had the brunch burger for an entree and it was amazing. The egg was perfectly cooked and yolky with crisp bacon too and Gouda cheese. Only giving four stars because the service was horrible and slow. The waitresses were standing at the bar with the bartenders talking and staring at the customers. To top it off they mixed up our debit cards when paying the bill. I visited Pookie's for a beer when I was in town over the holidays. The beer selection was somewhat small but you can find something you'll like and it's affordable. The bar area wasn't as big as I would've expected it to be, but they have another room with a lot of tables, yard games (corn hole), and even had some live music. Not too much going on as to not be able to taste the sunny side up egg. Bun was soft and tasty as well... The crinkle cut fries - great seasoning and not too much or too little. Beer is cold! I really want to be a fan of this place but the poor service and overpriced food doesn't help. The waitresses are hit or miss on whether you are going to have a decent experience or not. Some of them just have really bad attitudes. The food is not great, comes in small portions, and overpriced for what you get. If you want a place where you can get a $5 beer served to you in a plastic cup with lipstick still on the cup, this place is for you. read more

Had a bad experience with a bartender and attempted to contact the owner, instead my email was forwarded to the bartender who then sent me this response: "This is xxxxx (edited senders name) at pookies, we don't get breaks here so yes i was eating a salad behind the bar because that's the only time i get to eat. I literally had just left asking if you guys were ok and then you came to the bar asking for refills, we don't have servers on week days we have bartenders so i wasn't your only server first off. Second it takes a minute to make your food when the cooks have other orders it had been 5 minutes maybe! I promise i that i get more customers in herebecause i am such a good server/bartender than i run people off. I've never had one bad complaint. So thanks for your concern but it's not needed! VERY local feel - we were definitely defined as outsiders. Didn't get a cold shoulder or anything, but never quite got settled. The had live music outside and a covered outdoor area that looked cute. We all had a drink, but left pretty quickly. The food menu was lower-end bar food. Didn't look great coming out. Limited mixed drink options: had an awful margarita with possibly only sour mix in it. Other drinks were super-sweet or lower end. Looks like a cool place to have a beer and hang with buddies on the neighborhood. These days and times if young workers with attitude and no sense of service, the young lady that brought my order was nice and thoughtful as she had quite a few at the bar to serve. The food was very good(burger is my favorite food!). She recommended an alternative to the spice seasoning for a sensitive gastric situation. We came there because of the great reviews. The food I gotta say was good I ordered a burger and fries and my lady ordered a house salad we both were satisfied. When I ordered a drink I first asked for a margarita it was a pre made mixer tasted like crap so then I realized we are close to Kentucky so then I thought hell whiskey or bourbon cocktails so I asked asked for a old fashion they didn't know how to make that then I asked for manhattan she didn't know how to make that either. I never been to a bar that didn't know how to make basic cocktails so that I was very disappointed on that. Also the service everyone there was busy smoking outside that worked there. This place can be a great place if they just make a cocktail program and also didn't like the staff instead of checking up on the customers they were more interested smoking cigarettes in the outside patio area. read more

This is a pretty nice new bar in Marion. Pookie's is very large. They have a more traditional bar area that is the same size as the rest of the bars in town. They also have a huge garage-type area with bocce ball and cornhole. Finally, there is a small totally outdoors area with a few picnic style tables. It's a great new bar that Marion needed pretty badly. Hopefully they stick around. The buildings in the area they are located in are all pretty crappy, so hopefully more new businesses move in. read more

Stopped here on our way home from Nashville. Atmosphere is cool. Industrial high beamed ceilings with old exposed brick walls. Beer was cold. Food was good.
