Came here couple times before when it was Marx Pioneer Inn. It changed owners and brand several years ago. We came because I had heard that they had good brisket. And they were right about that. Its essentially a older home that was converted to a restaurant many years ago. Inside there is a large bar, a dining area (mostly tables for 6), and an outside patio area. The place looks a bit in disrepair (the front porch does not give a great impression), and could really use some TLC. Outside in the back is a volleyball court, kids playground, and a bar. Came on a Saturday night, around 7pm. There were a handful of people around the bar, and a couple of small groups of diners. Got seated right away. Server got to us right away, but then the service for the rest of the evening was excruciating slow (and inattentive). We ordered a Sangria and Beer. Apparently the sangria is not on the menu, but they did a good job of making one up. We got served in plastic cups, but saw that others were drinking out of glass (should we have had to ask?). Ordered the Brisket Sandwich and the Pub Burger. Both came out relatively quickly (although they were waiting a while for the server to bring them to us). Both sandwichs were very good. The burger was flavorful, and hot. The sidewinder fries were also hot and well seasoned. The brisket sandwich was excellent. Couple of slabs of moist brisket, with a nice fat cap. The sweet potato fries were ok, but over seasoned. After we got our food, our server was MIA. Never came back to ask how things were, and we had to flag them down to get our check. (they were chatting it up with some other employees near the kitchen). In short, the food was very good. But the atmosphere and the server have a lot to be desired. Went at 1100 on a Saturday for a burger but they only offer a brunch menu. So in order the biscuits and gravy. What a mistake. Sausage gravy was not only watered down but left a funny taste in your mouth and the biscuits were not cooked all the way. Looking for a lunch spot......keep looking and don't stop here read more

After visiting this restaurant with friends and family for years I was disappointed during my "Last" visit. While meeting up with friends I asked the waitress for a 1# of brisket to go. Gave her my card, no receipt. When I looked at my credit card statement the next day they charged me $34 rather than the pound price of $20. They said I ordered a 2, half pound meals... No I did not! There were no sides with the order I received. You would think that management/owner would do the right thing and correct this error... but no. Guess they don't care if they stiff longtime customers. Make sure you check your receipts carefully before handing over your money. read more

First time trying Pops Pub and it left a lot to be desired. We'd probably come back during the summer for drinks, but not the food. I ordered the Cajun cod, and it came with no Cajun.... I mentioned it to the server and she brought out Cajun seasoning for me to sprinkle on. Personally, that does not work. The Cajun cod would be sooooo much better if the Cajun was actually cooked ON the fish. I was very disappointed. The potato pancakes were delicious. The half piece of rye bread I got was dry and did not come with butter. My boyfriend got the brisket sandwich. The meat itself was decent, but we both wished there was more of it. Maybe sliced and piled a little higher. We would've gladly paid a little more. I got a side of cornbread and only had one bite. It was dense, fridge cold and tasted like soap. Maybe it was just a bad piece? I'm not sure, but I would not order it again. The only mostly decent apart of our meal was the Smokey bacon bites. Overall, we would not be back for the food. I was really hoping we'd like this place. We'll be back for drinks, but probably grab food elsewhere. read more

What an upgrade from the past for Pops Pub! The Old Pioneer In it ain't! I nust admit that it had been some time since visiting this long established Muskego bar/restaurant location and I am glad we did. While still smallish inside, there seems to be quite a bit more outside seating for the warmer months. The star of the show is the smoked meat BBQ offerings. Wow - just wow! From the wings to the mac and cheese, come and eat here! You will be sad you didnt eat here sooner. read more

BBQ is hard to come by in the metro Milwaukee area, and good BBQ is even harder to come by. This neighborhood pub churned out some of the best BBQ I've had in the area . Their smoked wings are fantastic, but the rub is just ever so slightly on the spicy side so fair warning. They also offer smoked corned beef which I've never had. The chef was very nice and came out to speak with us. The service was friendly and did a great job with our group of 10. They honor first responders and medical workers which is always a bonus. We will 100% be back! BBQ is an all day labor of love affair so get into Pop's and enjoy the hard work put in by this chef! read more

This was going to be today's lunch and a cold cocktail on a warm summer day after work place. The place is only like a couple months old because its a new bar/restaurant in a former bar/restaurant place. As I drove in and around the building a wood smoker was smoking away so now I'm intrigued at what's in it. The place is ok and its very woody so not a dive at all and ann would be my server server today. They don't have a drink menu so I asked to recommend some cocktail that's cold and when she said raspberry margarita I was like yes please. The menu is small but she said that they will be adding more items as they go. The menu had ribs on it so I ordered a half rack with frys that includes coleslaw and corn bread. I must say that I liked everything in the rib dinner down to the tangy bbq sauce that I didn't use. The ribs smelled and looked good with a great bark. The ribs were fuc#ing delicious with an outstanding bark that fell clean off the bone with a nice smoke flavor. I'm so glad the sauce was on the side because I forgot to ask but the ribs need absolutely no sauce at all and the meat stands on it's own. The frys were perfect with a light crispy outside and a moist soft inside that was seasoned well. The cornbread was super fresh and moist that was perfect. The coleslaw was fresh with crisp veggies and not the sloppy creamy kind. The bbq sauce was very good also because it was tangy with a little kick to it. WOW I'm impressed because this is not a bbq restaurant but the quality will put a lot of them to shame. I'm so glad that I stopped by because they are definitely doing smoked ribs on point. Good food, we like the burgers and pizza for casual meals. It can get a bit crowded, but they do warn you if there is a long wait for food.

Amazing place. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area. I recommend the meat!

Last night 9/29 Friday nt, stood around for 30min waiting for a table and then when we finally got seated, we were notified that it would be an hour before we get food... we abruptly got up and left while expressing our displeasure in not being notified sooner... We haven't been to this restaurant since it changed ownership. For starters, I ordered an Brandy old fashion, it came without any brandy. We each ordered a fish fry. Now I understand why the tables around us had everything but FF's delivered to their table. They were beyond terrible!! Hard, over fried breading, we scooped the oil saturated cod out of the hard shell. My stomach was gurgling a few minutes after we left. The marbled rye bread was dry, served with hard butter, unable to spread even on dry hard bread. Never again. read more

I really, really want to like the food here and want to make this more of a regular spot but it just hasn't lived up to the hype. For one, their barbecue (any of it) always taste just a tad too dry, as if it's sat out or just wasn't taken off soon enough. I've had this happen across multiple meals (e.g., pulled pork, brisket). I also tried their wings and the dry rub is very spicy to the point where I couldn't even finish more than one wing and their sauces didn't help alleviate it at all. Others in my group agreed that the spice was abnormally hot for wings and had a hard time finishing. I will say the service here is usually very good and the drink selection is decent so I'll likely still come but stick to drinks. read more

Pop's Pub primarily serves amazing oak-smoked BBQ. They do have non-smoked menu items as well. The bar and dining area is standard size. For the warmer weather, they have patio tables, a Tiki Bar, and a brand new play area for children. I highly recommend giving Pop's a try for yourself. You won't be disappointed! read more

This was our first time at Pop's and we were pleasantly surprised. We walked in during a Bingo game and left 2 hours later. Had a terrific mushroom Swiss burger and brisket sandwich, great bloody Mary's and a lot of fun with Bingo, the staff and the crowd. We will definitely be back! read more

We go here for happy hour and for the past few months the food has been good. The last two times the homemade chips taste stale the nachos were cold the pico tastes old and if you are get the brisket or the chicken on the nachos get the brisket the chicken tastes like it's cut up and stored in the fridge for a day or two longer than it should be and rubbery. read more

Fantastic food and service! We visited Pop's last weekend for a bridal shower, the place was chosen because it had the best BBQ in the Milwaukee area we were told. I am from southern Ohio and I was a little skeptical so I was not expecting our experience. They started out serving smoked pork belly (one of my favorite little sins). It was outstanding, I certainly did not expect it to get better but it did. The owner then brought out smoked corned beef. I have never had a better corned beef in my life. It was juicy, smoked to perfection and had amazing flavor. I have to highly recommend this place, the food is truly amazing. The owner, Qmaster and staff were extremely friendly, helpful and fun. The owner also has his own speciality popcorn, that he sells locally and had some for us during our visit. It was so good I bought 4 bags to take home. My next visit to this area will most certainly include a repeat visit to this outstanding BBQ treasure. Thank you all at Pop's for the excellent food, service and hospitality! read more

Pops should be your go to place! Our wedding reception was held here and it was so much better than we ever expected. The staff was phenomenal..Lexi is probably the best bartender I have ever had! Kitchen staff managed Everything flawlessly and not one person left without saying it was the best BBQ they ever had. I would put Chef Jeff against Bobby Flay anyway! Always wanted to dry this place and finally did. Will not be back. Don't go if gluten free. Nothing labeled with allergens in menu. Server had to run around to find answers. Hands down incredible food. We sat at the bar and everyone was extremely attentive. The Ruben was probably the best I have ever had! Huge portions as you can see by the half-rack of ribs order (that would be a full rack anywhere in Milwaukee). All of their meat is smoked onsite and incredible quality. Fries were massive and perfectly crunchy on the outside but soft inside. Would 100% return. This is a smaller establishment inside but has ample outdoor seating. Typical WI pup style, nothing fancy inside with at least 1 dart board I could see. Large volleyball court outside with leagues on Thursdays, tiki bar by the courts that was staffed with a bartender and customers. Overall a great place but if your focus is food you can't skip out. (Used to be Marx Pioneer Inn and as of this review that sign it still up as they are still transitioning over ownership but that will probably change in the next few months). read more

Finally made it to Pop's this past weekend. Their BBQ is well worth the visit. Probably one of the best bbq in the area. Had the baby-back ribs, brisket and burnt ends. I went in because I heard the food is great. What a buzz kill when I see Juston, formerly of every bar in Milwaukee. The guy worked so many bars in Milwaukee that he is notorious. Horrible bartender, big mouth know it all, short man, antivaxxer. He didn't remember me but he starts with his MBA spiel. Unfortunately it was from an internet college. Then he proceeds to say he graduated from Madison. Nope...went to a college in Madison. If he would shut up and pour a drink it would be nice. He is just an abrasive, short, little man with illusions of grandeur. I'm sure you'll find this out then he'll be bartending some place else next month. Good luck. Oh CCAP him. He has money woes.
