This is a review on this location. The management is awful here and they purposefully screw with your order. Let me explain.... There's always a line here, often out the door everyday. Once you get to the front, they always say we ran out of this or that of its a 20 min wait for an item on top of waiting the 15 min minimum wait after ordering your food. Last time I was here, I ordered the 10 peice combo. They said they ran out of spicy chicken, if I could order original instead. I said ill wait for the spicy chicken. Supposedly it was a minimum 15 min wait, I waited 30 min already just to order so I figured what the hell ill just wait for what I actually want. The manager tried to convince me otherwise, I said I'm sure and ill wait. So I'm waiting, and the manager asks me 3 times if I'm sure ill wait for it. I'm like, yes, I'm patiently waiting, thats not a problem. Everytime she announces to the store they have run out to other customers. Thats fine, I get my order after 45 minutes of waiting, but thats not the problem. I go through the bag and say, the fries are missing. They insist its in the bag, trying to rush me out of there. They point to a box and say those are the fries. I get home and of course the fries are missing!!! The box they pointed to were the biscuits. I return to popeyes and upon entering the manager says I need a box of fries before I say anything!!! Wth. Yup the manager purposely screwed my order because I ordered what I wanted instead of adjusting my order to what was convenient for them. Check your orders throughly here bc they are so busy they often screw it up! Never again, the chicken is good, but ill drive out of my way to the st albert trail location which never has a line and way better service! read more

Not sure what the craziness is all about but a friend and I couldn't decide where to meet for dinner so we came here. This is only the second location that has opened in Edmonton and I heard all the hype about the south side one. There is a strip mall which opened up recently in the Griesbach neighbourhood and the restaurant is located on the corner. The parking lot is large with plenty of parking. We arrived at 4:30 and I was expecting to see a lot of cars. We knew we were taking a chance of having to wait a really long time and not getting a table either. There are about 10 tables inside and my friend did manage to get a table as someone was leaving. Surprisingly there was no one is line but about three people waiting for their orders. Lots of staff were working so the food was coming out fast. We ordered a dinner for two for $15.99 which included five pieces of chicken (kind of odd for two people to share) either original or spicy, two biscuits, two sides and two drinks. The chicken pieces were big with a very crunchy batter but I couldn't taste any spices so nothing extra special. The mashed potato with Cajun gravy was very smooth but the gravy was so so, have had better everywhere else. The biscuits were good but small, I think most people would eat two. The onion rings were also just okay. I checked out the rest of the menu and the combos seem quite pricey. By 4:50 the place was packed with about ten people in line and eight customers waiting for their order. There was no room left for people to move in there. I noticed many "drive-bys" as people stopped to look in and see how busy it was, it was a bit amusing. Many customers also walked up to the door only to turn back to their car. I would probably eat here again if I was in the area but would wait until the hype calms down. Not worth standing in line with the crowd. read more

I've been here multiple times because I love me some Popeyes, and since moving this is the closest location to me. Now, call me a foolish optimist, but I kept hoping there's be any kind of improvement to their service. That has not happened. I once stood at the till for 15 minutes (I timed it and was stupid enough to wait, but figured how bad can it be?) being completely ignored by the staff, who then told us it would be an additional 20 minutes to fry new chicken since they had run out. While that was by far our worst experience and we just left, it's pretty indicative of the service we've received every time. If you come to this location, you'll wait at least 15 minutes for your order, even if you're the only people there, receive minimal service at best, and your food will be...passable. The staff don't talk to each other and either look bored or completely terrified, and it translates into very poor service for customers. I love Popeyes, but sadly, will not be returning to this location even though it's so close to home. read more

This is the original Popeyes location in Edmonton and they were so good that they won the best location in North America for a full quarter (3 months). They've slowed down since those hay days but it's still good tasting chicken! I usually order 8-12 pieces to feed 4-6 people. We all prefer thigh meat because it's juicy and more flavorful. You can ask to upgrade to all thigh meat but they will charge you $0.80 -$1 extra per piece that needs to be changed. I like their gravy but it's not your normal chicken gravy so not everyone will like it. Their biscuits are kinda dry and over seasoned so I prefer not to have them but they include them in a lot of their combos. They offer regular and spicy chicken and both are good but I find spicy can be too salty as well. This is the closest location to me so I'll be back regularly. read more

Have been to both locations. Southside back when it was crazy busy but got stuff to go and was only 30min max so not too bad given the number of customers and the northside a few times at not so busy times. First time: tried a 3pc combo of "normal chicken" as a baseline to know what to expect. my takeaway was: don't get "normal chicken"! Ultra bland, virtually no distinctive taste other than unflavored chicken that's been deep fried. The fries were just fries with no aspirations of being good fries. The biscuit, while good, is nothing more than Teabisk/Bisquick flour and butter, but I can easily make these at home by the dozen and they're great cold! Overall - bland and uninspired, but the staff (soooo many) were amazing. It was insane to watch that many staff in such a small area!! Next times: tried various combos of chicken, tenders and a sandwich but all the spicy "Louisiana" version. Definitely better but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. It has a bit of 'kick" but nothing lasting past a slurp of water. No change on the fries/biscuit front. Still prefer KFC. read more

He stopped here for dinner on the way home a few weeks ago, after hearing friends rave about the other location. It the line wasn't long when we were there, but several people had already ordered and we kind of milling about, we weren't sure where to order at first. Once we got that sorted, we ordered mild chicken strips, Cajun mash, fries, and a sandwich (not sure which one, don't remember). The order came out quickly, and we got our order to go. Our picky toddler did not like the seasoning in the fries, but shawn and I thought they were okay. By the time we got home, (less than ten minutes later) the strips were stone cold, which meant they were barely warm to begin with. I could tell it was good breading, though, because even cold it had some crunch to it. If I got them again, I would get the spicy because the mild had no flavour. The mashed potatoes were piping hot and super creamy, but I've had better gravy elsewhere. Shawn said the sandwich tasted good, but there was nearly half the bun left when the chicken was gone. We would probably try them again at some point, but the inconsistency in food temperature and proportions in the Sandwich, made us not want to go back in a hurry read more

This is a guilty pleasure for me. You don't come to Popeyes if you're worried about your diet. Nope, you come here for some soul food! I've been here a few times already. The service here is consistently quick and efficient. At most, I've waited maybe 15-20 minutes for my food. That's pretty impressive considering how crowded the place can be. If you see a line up, please don't get intimated. The lines move fast and the workers are pretty organized. When you enter the restaurant, the lineup is to your left side. Once you've completed your order, you'll get a number. The staff will call out your number when your order is ready. They don't have a microphone or a display board, so you need to listen carefully. My favorite thing to order here is the fried chicken combo meals. I usually order a mix of mild and spicy. I don't find the spicy too spicy. The skin/batter is crunchy and the chicken is moist. I also usually order a side of gravy to dunk my chicken and fries into. The combos usually come with corn bread. For about $40 I was able to feed 5 people with the 12 piece combo. Mind you, I also brought the chicken home, and my mom prepared some corn and a couple of salads. If you have some time, you can definitely save some money by making your side dishes at home. But if not, there's a good selection of side dishes to choose from here. Overall, I like this place. It's a great treat to have once in a while. I chose Popeyes for my Sunday hangover cure today. After hearing all the rage about the chicken sandwich I quickly decided on that. While waiting for my order the hangover was really taking its toll on me and I violently threw up in the women's restroom. As if that wasn't bad enough, some other customer that apparently has the same name as me ordered the Cajun fish sandwich (disgusting) and that's what I ended up taking home. My car was running while I was in the restaurant with the heated seat on blast, which led to an atrocious fishy smell on the drive home. Went to this location thrice already in a month because it's conveniently located near my place. Initially I liked the chicken, but on my second visit I noticed that the chicken were a bit salty. I may not have noticed the first time since I ordered gravy with it. Typical fried chicken though. Parking is ok, you can park at the nearby Shoppers drug mart and walk your way to Popeye's. Unfortunately, their place is too small, there's a huge island in the middle which took a lot of space. Everytime I go there all the tables are already taken and there were a lot of people standing waiting for their orders. During lunch it is filled with a lot of students from a nearby school which makes it a very slim chance of getting a seat. Line up to order is fairly quick but waiting for your order can take time, so you'll end up standing and waiting for your order as well. And it could get tight because there are a lot of people waiting and more coming in to line up. Will go to the other location and try. Could come back here but not anytime soon. read more

However the sides were not very good at all. The Mac and cheese tasted like kraft dinner. The biscuit was dense and not buttery or flakey at all. The fries were ok. The fried chicken is excellent. Nice crispy exterior, moist perfectly cooked meat and devent sized pieces. Bigger than KFC but smaller than Mary Browns. Service is freindly but when busy the orders are very slow coming out. They are in serious need of a better way of posting or announcing the order number that is up. The nice Phillipino girls they have serving just can't yell loud enough to be heard above the din in the restaurant. The layout of the place is another thing that needs a bunch of work. Condiments, pop machine and waste disposal are all clustered right at the tills and pickup window which means there is a constant crush of people fighting to get in and out of a very small space. My final complaint is the parking is attrocius. Unless u have a handi cap sticker u need to park at shoppers drug and walk over. No idea how they can have two restaurants in the same area with so little parking. While the chicken is good it is no better than Mary Browns and about the same price. I was lucky enough to make it here for opening day and I wasnt disappointed. I got the three piece spicy tenders with fries. My husband had the mild with fries and gravy. Both of our meals came with a biscuit and a pop, his a large mine a medium. His meal was $10 and mine was $8.50 or something like that. The fries were pretty limp but still a nice change from the common thread of fries here in Canada. The gravy was not normal American Popeye's gravy... It was a light brown with white chunks in it and was tasteless. My chicken was amazing though. And the biscuits were nice and flaky! I was about the sixth person in the line outside and from the point I got in line u til I got my food it was about an hour. I won't wait that long again but can't wait until it dies down a bit do I can make this my regular fast food stop. Wish they'd bring a buffet like the one they had in Alabama though!
