I would say it's very comparable to Natural Food Pantry. The selection is good, but the stores are not huge like Whole Foods. Prices are acceptable, but not as cheap as at Healthy Planet. They do have a clearance section of short-dated items, where you can get some good deals. They occasionally have samples of featured products. They are obviously not doing this during the current COVID-19 Pandemic, but in normal times they did. They have a points system but admittedly it takes a long time to accumulate points if you don't buy a lot of things there. I didn't know the details, but Robert from Kardish responded to my review and let me know that it's spend $350 and get $10 off and it's free to join (Thanks, Robert!). The store is bright and clean. Staff are friendly. Lots of free parking in the plaza parking lot.

They have a lot of processed foods like vegan cheeses and spreads. I'm glad that they do because the regular grocery stores often have a limited selection of these items. They have frozen meals, vegan & non vegan foods, natural cleaners, low-waste products, vitamins and supplements, skincare products, and lots more. They have a pretty small bulk foods section so I've stuck with bulk barn for when I need to stock up. Their fruit and vegetable selection isn't great. You'll definitely need to make a separate trip to a grocery store for those items. I've found that a lot of their items on sale are expired. I realized this when I bought a package of oats to try and threw them out once I tasted them and realized that they were stale - and a full week past the best before date. I'm all for selling products that are about to expire but it's a risky thing to sell food past that date. Their tea selection is great! So much choice and variety. They also have mixes like turmeric lattes or beet lattes sometimes. Recently, they stopped selling my favourite tea brand which was upsetting as I now have to order it online. The store is great but not a one-stop kind of place. You'll most likely have to stop elsewhere for fruits and veggies. I'd definitely recommend checking this place out because they have so many brands and items you won't see at your regular grocery store.

We found Natural Food Pantry in Billings Bridge Mall, which makes it totally handy in the sense that we can shop there while doing other shopping. It sells everything - cleaning products, dried foods (in a great bulk area), frozen foods and produce. They even have helpful books as well. The prices vary depending on what you are buying. The natural soaps are cheap, but the cleaning products are about double what the regular brands sell for.

I've stopped by this location a few times since we're always at Carlingwood, to pick up some vitamins I have a hard time finding elsewhere. I always have a moment of sticker shock, but then I remind myself that health is pricey (but so worth it!), and that compared to come other health stores, this place isn't actually that bad. Bonus? The staff here are lovely and really knowledgeable. So why the missing star? It's cramped in here folks. The space they have is small, and there's a ton of product, so the couple of aisle end up being really packed. Fortunately, the staff know where everything is, and I usually just ask for their help and they know exactly where it is. So they had the protein powder I was searching for (hemp, if you must know - chocolate) and snagged some vitamins. They threw in a free sample of a greens concoction that's quite pricey so that was lovely. In addition to vitamins, supplements and protein powder (of which they have a HUGE selection), they also have a bunch of organic hair and beauty products (including lots of Kiss My Face, which I love), salt crystal lamps, and some healthy, organic gluten-free foods. Healthy Planet is a Health Food Store similar to Kardish and Natural Food Pantry. Since they are new, when I went they still had some empty shelf space, but I'm sure with time they will fill it with products. The store is big and bright and they carry a lot of items that I like at slightly lower prices than their main competitors (who I named above). They carry Vegan Rob's chips, which I absolutely love. They also carry Fiasco Gelato, as well as Mapleton's Organic ice cream! I saw lots of frozen breads, but not any fresh bread, and they don't have a bakery section :( They have a beauty section, but very limited brands of cosmetics. They have skincare, bath and body products too. They have a rewards/points system, but like their competitors it's pretty minimal. You get 1 point per dollar spent and get $5 off when you reach 500 points. So spend $500 and get $5 back. Better than nothing, I guess, lol. It's free to join the rewards program. I'm in this area a lot, so I will likely be going here often. Hopefully they have lots of sales and will have a clearance section, lol. Lots of free parking in the plaza.

To those that I have seen often over the years there, I have always easily been able to get on a first-name basis with, and, when they aren't busy, they are always willing to engage me in a friendly, sometimes humourous conversation. Of course, I always try to take advantage of their deals, such as "Buy 1 & get the 2nd at half price", for example. But who wouldn't? Any quality supplements are not cheap these days. In fact, there are times when I've been tipped off, so-to-speak, of these deals, which I maybe shouldn't mention here, lol. But, I'm sure other loyal customers are made fully aware, too. In addition, as far as product knowledge is concerned, Popeye's is top-notch. Their friendly staff all know their stuff, and I would suspect that makes it more comforting for people who are possibly coming to Popeye's for the 1st time. They will certainly take the time required to share their knowledge so that people can make informed decisions without them feeling rushed. So, not only are the Popeye's staff on Merivale Rd. in Ottawa, one of their original stores, if I'm not mistaken, extremely friendly and knowledgeable but the also help to make their clients just have a better day just simply by the client experience.

Anyway, I was in the area doing other things, and I love the Healthy Planet in the Ottawa Trainyards, so figured I'd pay this location a visit. Overall, it is big and bright and great to shop, but I didn't find as many deals as at the Trainyards location, where I'd often get short dated items on clearance. Healthy Planet is a health food store with lots of organic and natural products. They also sell supplements and vitamins. Their prices are slightly lower than the other major health food stores such as Kardish and Natural Food Pantry. I love that they are a Canadian company (and they actually started out in my hometown, Toronto, in 1995). The Trainyards location is much more convenient for me, but if I'm out in the west end and have some time, I would definitely drop by again and poke around. Lots of free parking in the plaza. I don't eat them but I homemake my dog's food and use them for her. They are farm local for just under $6. Love local. I also buy garlic powder and sea salt in bulk. No wasted containers this way and it's cheaper. Browsing the food areas are neat for those harder to find items. I always go in to browse and come out $40 in the hole. Thank God I don't have dietary restrictions (my middle name is carb!) Or else I'd be buying so much more from here.

One thing I really liked about this shop is its size - it's HUGE! It is bright and clean and has loads of variety. Lots of beverage alternatives (Finally, not your run of the mill soft drinks!) The shop made me think of my sister, who has specific dietary needs. While I was thinking of her, wandering the aisles, she called me! How's that for perfect timing? I think she'd love it here, and will have to bear this in mind for next time she travels this way. They offer a number of glutten free items, which even I wouldn't mind trying, like breads. These are just different that what you can buy ready made, or what you can usually make at home (out of regular wheat ingredients).
