The house was just beautiful and decorated warmly for Christmas. The room and private bath was spacious, had a very comfortable bed, and included a small fridge, microwave, TV & DVDs, wireless internet, and an outdoor patio. The food was INCREDIBLE. Our first evening there, we enjoyed a wonderful homemade pastry and some sherry by the warm fireplace. I wish I could have those pastries again. The breakfasts were just grand. The help yourself area includes things like coffee & orange juice, delicious hot porridge & cereals, assorted breads & spreads, yogurt & fresh fruit, and other appetizer type foods such as smoked salmon, mushrooms filled with cream cheese and wrapped in sausage, spanakopita, grilled vegetables, and antipasto. THEN you get the hot entree. Our first day, we had the most amazing egg and cheese quiche I've ever had in my life. It was topped with some ridiculously good sauce. The second day, we had Mexican omelets that were light and fluffy and served with a garden of fresh cilantro, tomatoes, and lettuce on top. The real beauty of staying here is getting to know April, the owner, and listen to her knowledge of Winnipeg and advice on what to enjoy in the area. She is truly a gem. We really appreciated that she would come sit with us and chat whenever we came downstairs; we learned so many interesting things from her. And, she is an incredible cook; she should have a cookbook. We will definitely only stay here for all of our future trips to Winnipeg!

They have struck a nice balance between amenities and keeping the home warm. The hosts (April and Diamond) are welcoming but allow you to just enjoy the space. Chocolate, Sherry, and Delicious breakfast await you. The back porch area overlooks the Assiniboine River. Great location, peaceful but close to everything, don't hesitate and book your visit. It's worth it.

Walkable to the Legislature, restaurants in several directions, and a peaceful path along the river. Although the building dates from 1882 and is beautifully restored, it is not precious but very livable. There are also gorgeous grounds and a small swimming pool--essential in the heat of the summer (which starts in June). Huge breakfast. Guest lounge with TV and books and a view of the garden. Thanks to Christine and Giovanni, our hosts, for making our stay so memorable.

The home and the yard are beautiful! The breakfasts (including the gluten free breakfasts) were wonderful! And the hosts are amazing. Although it is off the beaten track, there is a lot to do both at their place and in the area. We spent time swimming and boating in the river, hiking the nearby portion of the Transcanada Trail, and golfing in one of the nearby courses. I have only seen this place in summer, but I expect winter would be amazing as well.
