She talks about Nyla and the rest of the children a lot, and on those days the "fun play group" doesn't meet, she asks when she gets to return. Before moving into charitable management and development, I served students in public school systems in two states for over 15 years as a teacher and as an administrator. My experience gives me further appreciation of Nyla's practices. She intentionally avoids the trendy forcefeeding of academic concepts to children who are not intellectually ready. Her work with children reflects Piaget's studies of child development. Children learn through play, and their expression improves through various arttistic means. That's what Nyla told my wife and me when we and our daughter first met with her, and that is what she has delivered. Furthermore, her open-door policy adds the assurance that my wife and I are welcome at any time. If you're looking for something posh, this isn't the place. We always felt assured that their top priority was the health, safety, and well-being of all of their students, and they spent a lot of time helping with the kids' social development, which was so incredibly important, especially after lengths of social isolation during the pandemic. We loved the community feeling of Seedlings, and to this day (our daughter is now 7), some of our closest friends are parents of our daughter's Seedlings classmates - we still keep in touch with some who have moved back to the UK and Europe! The fact that Seedlings prioritizes age-appropriate learning and understands the importance of play in terms of learning and development was key to us. Each day was filled with reading, art, music, play, science/nature, and typically a new experience or activity. The outdoor space was such a nice addition to the kids' experience, and knowing they had time to play and learn outdoors each day (weather permitting) was so important. Our daughter grew in leaps and bounds during her time at Seedlings, and was well-prepared to enter Kindergarten. We really appreciated the small class sizes, and the personalized attention Tracy and the rest of the staff gives to each and every child. To this day, our 7-year-old comes back to "read aloud" to the current Seedlings cohort from time to time, and is always welcomed with open arms by all. Tracy and the staff are invested in her growth, even now, years later, and have always supported her journey of overcoming her initial social anxiety post-pandemic and becoming more independent and confident. Once you become a part of the Seedlings family, you are always welcomed and celebrated, which is an incredible gift for both the Seedlings student and the entire family - especially in today's busy times. I can honestly say that we are so grateful we chose Seedlings for preschool, which is such a critical time in every child's development, and we'd highly recommend it to other families looking for the right fit for their child/children.

The specials (library, art, music, and dance) are also a real highlight of the Weekday School. My son has been bringing home amazing art projects, and showing us the songs and dances that he learned at school. Most importantly, the teachers are so experienced and caring. They really get to know each child as an individual, and my son has bonded very strongly with his teachers. Ms. Daina, the director, is incredibly warm, dedicated, and accessible. The teachers are fantastic at communicating needs and issues with parents. They do progress reviews, share photos, and provide reports on your child's development. My daughter was a late walker and they practiced with her and encouraged her so much that she was walking in no time. They would send us videos of her walking progress and caught many of her first walking attempts on video for us. They update parents with many pictures throughout the day to show what your children are doing and learning. HLC has thorough learning plans with weekly themes and lessons (examples are Earth Week to learn about recycling or Rainbow Week to learn colors and songs). The teachers are constantly singing with the kids and my daughter learned many songs and hand gestures through this. The kids go on long beautiful walks along the Hudson river and look at flowers and get fresh air. During the summer they do water days where kids can play with a water table and little splash pad outside. This school is creative and fun with children's enrichment being the top priority. HLC handles feeding schedules so smoothly. When babies are young they have many feeding needs and somehow all the teachers balance the different schedules without missing a beat. We cloth diaper my daughter and they happily accommodated that as well. The price is fantastic but the waitlist is long so get on the list early. I put my daughter on the list one calendar year before she needed to start which was the best decision I ever made. As a working parent, I was NEVER concerned about my daughter's well being or uncomfortable to leave her with the teachers at HLC. My daughter absolutely loved it and would walk into school each day excited and so happy. We moved away from the area and had to switch schools and leaving HLC was the thing my husband and I were the most upset about. The teachers threw my daughter a little going away party when she left and it was the sweetest thing. I cannot thank Ms Maddy, Ms Naz, Ms Nicole, and Ms Elina, and all the Minis teachers enough for running such a great school.
