Excellent bbq, had the beef brisket & baby back rib platter. Brisket and ribs were as good or better than the famous KC Bbq we've sampled while living in the KC area for three years. As a first time customer this afternoon, I was waited on by waitress, Kayla, who was extremely friendly, polite, and patient while I was groping my way through the menu trying to decide. The fried shrimp and onion rings were just mediocre, after which I ordered the Ruben sandwich, which was most definitely the nastiest food item I have ever encountered. The meat was allegedly brisket with huge accumulations of disgusting cold fat and gristle, virtually inedible. I tossed most of the totally unappetizing meat down under the table where my dog devoured huge chunks of it. Finally, I ordered the blueberry milkshake which was among the most delicious, creamiest milkshakes I have ever tasted. In retrospect, I would never return to eat there again. We were camping at Daniel Boone and stopped here on the way to the site. Wow. The bbq was great and so was the staff! We have a vacation place just down the street and we take all of our friends there when we come down. I stumbled across this place quite by accident. I had just asked a local where to eat in the area and he named chain restaurants. I just happened to see this on the roadside and noticed the lot full of cars. Now, to be honest, that lot full of cars delayed me getting a table anytime soon, but I could've chased carry out. My wife and toddler and I sat inside. I had the pork plate and she had the brisket (which is praised in a letter from UK's Coach Cal framed and on the wall). I had beans and cole slaw for my sides while she had green beans and a sweet potato for hers. I preferred the pork, but I admit that the brisket was the most tender and flavorful brisket I have ever had. The sides were all good, with a fair amount of meat in the BBQ beans. Tp they have a nice menu of shakes, but we had no room for dessert. With water to drink, the total with tip was $22. I'll be back when I'm nearby! read more

Wow, I travel a lot, and love to find great small businesses. I would have to say that this is one of the best BBQ places I've ever had!! The smoky flavor of the meat is phenomenal. Stopped at this place while killing some time between camera shooting locations. At first, the producer, who I was hired to drive around with, thought it was more or less a carryout place. Pretty medium sized place in an isolated area, probably a quickie mart's size. Once we went in, all was well. We were immediately greeted, seated, and given menus. For my meal, since everything was paid by the production company, I thought I would try something exotic. Frog legs. Yes, I know. Why would I go out of my way to try something so exotic (well at least for me)? For one, I was not paying for the meal. If I hated it, I would not be losing any money on it. Second, it was probably doubtful that I would be able to try it again. Of course, if you ask anyone who has tried them, they would say the ever popular phrase "Tastes like chicken..." My personal take was that they were like chicken, when handling; however, the actual meat was like a fish fillet meat. Beware that sides are a little more 'meh' - the 'fresh veggies' have been boiled to with inches of their life, fries taste like they were frozen, onion rings were nothing special. This was the worst dining experience I've ever had. I phoned in my order at 4:50pm was told 25 minutes. I went to pick up my order 25 minutes later and stood and waited an additional hour for my food. When I did get my order I only received 6 shrimp as a whole order which is supposed to be 12 shrimp. They didn't give me my side item. I tried calling and no one answered the phone. When I drove back up there I was told we didn't honk you would notice it was a half order and we didn't think you would notice we charged you for your side you didn't get. Basically that it was ok for them to steal from me. The waitress and owner were rude to me. I would not EVER recommend eating here. They are dishonest and not customer focused. read more

Pop's BBQ is good except for the fact it hurt my stomach and makes me sick after eating it. I have no idea what they have in their sauce but it's a gut killer. The service isn't pleasant. One time I went to get ice cream and I waited at the drive thru for ten minutes and no one answer. Taking matters into my own hands I decided to pull up to the window. When the lady arrives the person I was with told her we were waiting out there for ten minutes (we weren't mad we were just telling her), and she said "well you're here now". I was livid. One of the attractions of small towns are the little holes in the wall that you can find, and Pop's is a great example of that. You do really have to pick and choose the foods, though, and expect to get the full bbq motif in all of their dishes. For example: their turkey club is more like a cheesesteak with turkey instead of steak. Very hearty and resistant to vegetables. Recommended eating: Their ribs and their pulled pork are by far the crown jewels, as far as their entrees go. Perfectly prepared every time; the meat on the ribs falls right off the bone. Among their sides, their fried green tomatoes are not to be missed, and try the frog legs if you've never had them before! Ask about their daily specials, because unique dishes and apps do come up on the regular, including some special all-you-can eat days where you can get your fill of favorites like catfish or ribs. The ice cream and milkshakes are awesome, but the flavors can rotate so always ask what they have. The decor is super fun, and if you're okay with sitting outdoors you can even bring your dog. read more

We stopped at Pop's after a day at the lake and even at 3:00 in the afternoon it was packed! It was the weekend after 4th of July so I guess it makes sense! Other reviews slam the service, but the girl we had was a doll, even though she was super busy she did great, had a big smile and great sense of humor, wished I'd gotten her name so I could mention her! All the servers were running their behinds off that day and it's not an easy place to navigate at all. Our food came in reasonable time, and it was really good. The ribs and pulled pork we had were awesome! The onion rings were the only blah item, just not hot and sort of soggy. Good portions, good prices, loved sitting outside. No, it's not a 5 star Michelin eating establishment! But it's some dang good BBQ for your buck!
