First time, sadly last time. $40 is pretty steep for a men's haircut to start. Cut was average at best. I sat down for a cut, told her what I'd like and something totally different came out. I keep my style pretty basic... not much going on. So when it took 45 mins and looked worse than Supercuts I decided not to go back. Expensive and bad is not a combo I'm looking for... oh well on to the next spot. No wonder they were pretty empty. read more

Just went in the other day... got kicked out for coming in an hour earlier so I had to wait another couple days... I wait first thing in the morning... NOPE they only have 1 barber come in and they already have an appointment. So I waited another couple of days and I finally schedule something. I'm pretty sure the guy who cut my hair messed me up on purpose and over charged me 5 dollars. He knew he gave a sloppy ass haircut and still bothered to ask me if I wanted my change back. DO NOT GET CUT BY THE DUDE IN THE FAR CORNER BY THE GREEN WALL HE WILL FUCK YOUR SHIT UP. (This is a "taper" by the way) read more

Very upset, i wasted my time and I waited 30 minutes past my scheduled appointment. Also, I was quoted $50 over the phone for a haircut and straight razor shave then when I was sat in the chair the barber said it would be $70 (which is more than quoted) I clarified over the phone before I agreed to come in because I only get straight razor beard trims. As a business owner myself I understand the value of my word and if I misquote a price to a customer I honor it. Waited about two hours and spent $20 for a rushed haircut that looked like it was worth $10. I suggest you go somewhere else unless you're friends with these guys since they really don't have the patience for people they don't know. At the end of the day, for this barbershop, it's all about luck. So hopefully, if you already came here you lucked out with the right barber because I didn't. If no stars was an option that's what I would've chose. If EDGAR is free... RUN! My kid got butchered tonight! This guy, Edgar, gave my 12 year old an "Army cut!"... when asked for a "zero fade and trim to make the top even", THE TOP! The top was easily 6 inches long, now it's less than an inch and uneven at that!!! Currently, my kid is in tears worried about being bullied at school. This cut is worse than a "Super Cuts" discount hair cut, even worse than going to the $5 beauty school! The hair cut was all uneven... I should've asked what school he went to? ASK FOR YOUR MONEY BACK, EDGAR! They didn't teach you shit!!! And shame on Popular Demand, TRAIN YOUR EMPLOYEES FOR QUALITY CONTROL! Your business had creditably up until today. Not good at all my hair cut was bad i was in a rush (i let him take his time and dint mention i was in a rush) and I didn't notice how bad it was. How can he let me walk out like that until i got home and check my hair i was shocked, terrible hair cut im not a picky person but this was bad. Terrible. Barber wasn't even paying much attention. Didn't look at the front or he would've obviously seen how the sides were uneven. If he didn't spray down my entire head with water, he would've seen how there were loose hairs. This was far from a clean cut. Sigh...I might have to pay again to have this fixed. read more

Okay fade. Barber scratched my neck up a bit. Clippers felt jagged. A few hairs were left behind my ear. Had to fix this haircut at home myself. If you're in desperate need for a haircut because you have something to do the following day then sure, go to this place. read more

The whole place is black, like a funeral parlor. Not my preference, but no big deal. I just wanted a simple 15 minute hair cut, nothing special. This is not the place for that. It's a more high end barber shop. I didn't see the prices posted anywhere, and there was no sign-in sheet. The barbers asked the guy who came in after me if he had an appointment, but no one spoke to me. There was rock music blasting, I prefer a more tranquil atmosphere. The parking lot is small for a strip mall, so I had to park on the street. I pass by a lot on my way to Home Depot so I notice the parking lot is always full. At the busy corner of Valley and Marengo in Alhambra. I'm sure this type of salon will appeal to a lot of guys, but not me nor most men. read more

I decided to try this place out for the first time today, based on price I was expecting a good cut. I was not greeted when I walked in so I said hi to the barber in the first chair to the left, he didn't say a word and gave a bothered stare. I sat and waited for about an hour and saw walk-ins who came in after get cut first. Finally another gentleman helped me out, he was really kind but can tell he wasn't really trying on my cut. As a result, I ended up with the worst cut I've had in years. I still tipped him bc I was raised right, but honestly it was a waste of two hours and $25 being there. Not to mention the time it will take to grow my hair out and correct this cut read more

Would not recommend, unless you have an appointment. No sign in sheet for walk ins. Waited close to 2 hours and ended up just walking away. Don't spend your time with this place. One worker was browsing through Netflix while waiting for his next appointment, while he could be cutting some hair. Another was cutting a little boys hair and was cussing away, talking about weed, sex, and drugs. Word of advice: advertise yourself as by appointment ONLY; and not walk in welcome; implement a sign in sheet, so the barbers know who came first. read more

I've been to a number of the barbershops in the area and I keep finding myself back at this place. I don't have a usual, because i'm too lazy to wait or don't want to spend $5 extra to book an appointment online. But everyone that has given me a cut I've been very satisfied with their work. It's a pretty dark shop with curtains in the windows, but they're probably open. Inside there's 2 rows of seats and a couch and TV's everywhere, so you can catch a game or a movie while you wait for your barber. If you're real particular about your barber you can go online and book them to whatever time slot, but it's an extra $5 for the convenience. read more

Just horrible, first called the phone for an appointment, a guy picked up and hanged immediately. Ok call again, this time still answer then hang immediately. Made an appointment online with Erika. Got there and was asked if I was a walk-in. I said no, I had an appointment with Erika. There was one woman working there, I have to assume this was Erika. Erika barely even looked my way and did not attempt to acknowledge me. She was working on braiding a guys' shoulder length hair and had just started separating out sections; it looked like this was going to take a while. Popular Demand's appointment policy: "Please make sure to arrive early. We will only allow a 5 minute grace period after your scheduled time." Erika was clearly going to take considerably longer and again, did not make any attempt to acknowledge me or give me an idea of how long I would need to wait. This is a double standard and not respectful of a client's time. I cannot speak to how well they cut hair because I left. Very uncomfortable space and atmosphere. Big screen TV blasting crap. Not a cool atmosphere. If you know a barber then this is all probably fine for you. read more

An excellent place in the area to get a haircut. The waiting area is clean and comfortable with individual sofa chairs. They have multiple TVs on to keep you entertained if you have to wait and the barbers will make sure you love your haircut. The owner always tries his best to make sure everyone is taken cared for and the experience is flawless. I honestly keep coming back because I see the owner making an effort cutting my hair, making it just the way I like it. You can't say that about a lot of barbers. I usually get a fauhawk or a taper. This place is great. I've been coming here since it opened earlier this year. I always go to Josh, but you can't go wrong going to any of the other barbers here. If you come during peak hours you might have to wait to get a haircut but its definitely worth it. Plus you can relax and enjoy the game or a movie in the waiting area. The atmosphere in here is great overall. I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a good cut. read more

Aight peep game, I was in a hurry and made the worst mistake of coming here when Omar wasn't avail. I wait for about an hour cause I showed up with no appointment, understandable and they asked me if I wanted to get a cut by this dude in the corner (has tats and ponytail I believe). W O R S E mistake of my life. I tell dude I want a drop fade / taper the sides. He doesn't understand, so I tell him how it's done. OK - so this is my second time here.. Got a great haircut the first time - second time around was good too - but i have to bring this up. THEY BLAST HORRIBLE MUSIC!!! Stripper rap. Highschool rap. This place came in and saved the day! I stumbled across them on yelp because I was in need of a haircut asap because I couldnt make an appointment to a place I usually go to and they couldnt reschedule me. So I came into this place last min, literally an hour before they close and asked if they could take care of me and they said of course. Kevin hooked it up with a nice faded undercut and was polite despite me coming in last min. My cut was clean and attention to the little details. Man what can I say BEST BARBER SHOP I've been to in a long time, not only is it clean but the atmosphere is great once you walk in they make you feel comfortable. I'm very fastidious about my hair I wouldn't go with just any barber but these guys know what they are doing. I get my hair cut done by KEVIN the skinny one all the way at the end of the shop. Highly recommend this guy. Never rushed and always very welcoming and clean.Just make sure you make an appointment I do, it makes my life that much easier and I won't have to wait. All the barbers at POPULA DEMAND are very perfectionist and that's what I enjoy to see, you can tell they love what they do. You can see they always feed of each other and give each other ideas on how to improve a certain style haircut maybe that's why these guys are always packed. Very family oriented not only among themselves but with there customers. The shop it's self is always fresh and smelling good. Tv's everywhere and or good music giving you that good vibe. I've been getting my haircut with STEEZ at Popular Demand for about 6 months now. I was with my previous barber for about 23 years before getting my haircuts with STEEZ. One of the reasons why I switched over to STEEZ was his attention to the details, and his ability to execute many "modern" cuts that today's youth seek. My previous barber started "slacking off" after so many years of cutting my hair. It seemed he no longer had the passion to cut hair anymore, and it showed in his work. I used to walk into his shop expecting to walk out with a so-so haircut. At first I nervous to getting my haircut with STEEZ, but he blew my expectations out of the water. He took the time to cut my hair without speeding through it, and he also explained to me how to brush and style it with the correct products. Apart from his attention to details, he's an awesome dude. Super humble and friendly. I recommend making an appointment with STEEZ first before walking into the shop. He gets pretty busy. Great service and even better hair cuts. I came here for the first time and happy to say I very impressed! I was looking for a new barber because sadly my old barber moved out of town. I live in the San Gabriel Valley and have visited of few barber shops and salons. Sadly there aren't that many "real" barbershops around. I think here in Alhambra there is another one. I don't know the man but I hear good things about them too. Ok. Back to Popular Demand. I walked in at about 4pm and it was moderately busy. The female barber, Giselle greeted me with a smile and said she would cut my hair. I waited about 15 minutes and then proceeded with my haircut. There aren't too many barbers, let alone female barbers that I've seen cut hair like her. Definitely worth it! Highly recommended. I used to like this place but I had to stop going there. The cuts are good when they focus on the customer but not the TV or talking. The place needs some cleaning up and the barbers seem to lack some professionalism. Maybe I am too old and don't understand how you can focus on cutting hair while watching TV or talking to other barbers... In addition, when you walk in no one seems to really care about telling how their system works. Who cuts your hair or if they are busy or who is next... a bit confusing. On top of it all it's 20 dollars plus tip! If you cut your hair once a week it's 100 month which isn't bad if they take care of you. BOTTOM LINE: Pro: Good cut, friendly staff, Con: High prices, not very focused, loud music or TV, lack of professionalism, messy environment and organization of system. read more

What's dope about this spot is the convenient location just about 3 minutes off the Alhambra strip. It's in a more laid back part of Alhambra. It caters to those who need a quality cut in the area, not so interrupted by the busier downtown streets. The barbers are efficient with their cuts, not rushing just get clients in and out the doors. The shop's setting mirrors their laid back and personable styles, with comfortable seating, and numerous flat screens to accommodate those waiting. ESPN and live sporting events are always streaming, so there's no worries about missing any games while getting a fresh clip. Not sure who to ask for is no issue here, given that all the barbers are uniquely talented. I personally recommend the head of the shop, Josh. He stays pushing out quality cuts and shaves. read more

Had been coming here for a while until my last visit 2 weeks ago! I had been waiting 2 hours to get cut mean while "appointments" are walking in and getting cut right away... After waiting from 11:30 to 1:30 I finally asked if someone would be able to cut my hair? The dude tells me, we all have appointments! I replied you tell me this now after 2 hours!!! I continued and said so I've basically wasted the last 2 hours of my day? He then said, "well we encourage people to make appointments." Let me remind you that the owner Josh is an awesome guy!!!! And has always taken care of me!!! But this other person, disrespected me, embarrassed me, and wasted my one day off, that I should have been able to enjoy with my family!!! I bin to multiple barbershop's and its very hard to find a good barber. I walked in here one day not knowing what to expect or whom to choose as my barber as this was my first time coming here. I sticked with Erica and the past 2 cut's she has gone above and beyond! So much focus on the detail, the time that's taken, and the fact that she show's that she cares about the work she does! It sad to see her leave or knowing that she wont be there no more, but i seen the work that everyone else has put in and they all look fire! This place deserves 6 stars in my book, great barbershop experience overall! Their online booking system is amazing, I can't remember the last time I went to a shop and didn't have to wait! The little time I did spend their they had comfortable seating, plenty of TV's playing, music was on setting the vibe, and the barbers... don't get me started! I was in the area needing a cut for the weekend. Checked the handy dandy yelp app and came across this spot - Popular Demand. I was in real early on Friday, about 30 minutes before opening (10am). Kevin opened up shop - settled in to get the day started. Once doors opened, instantly 7 people in line for a cut - half of the clients waiting for Kevin. That just goes to show you the service and cuts are real good - coming from a first timer. I came out fresh for the weekend. I simply hit the jackpot but finding out about you guys. They're a shop based in Alhambra and serving everyone from all around so-cal. It's a plus that they're so close to me and on top of that, their prices are decent. The quality of each cut and the experience you get speaks for itself. So at first I was a little hesitant of getting a haircut here at this shop because of reading previous reviews about it here on yelp but thought hey why not give it a shot. I went in asking for a taper fade(a taper on the back and mid fade on the sides). The barber went ahead and gave me an undercut all around going too high on the sides leaving me looking like a pineapple. Not to mention the place smelled like weed so I wouldn't be surprised if he was high while giving me this fruit chop! Worst cut I've ever had. Definitely not worth it! BEWARE! read more

Was very excited to have a new barber shop open up in the area. Walked in and was immediately impressed with the numerous big screen TVs and plenty of comfortable seating . The wait time was shorter then most shops I've visited and customer service was exceptional. Coming from San Diego one of my family members needed a haircut for the weekend. Was recommended to try this spot out. Anyone who lives in LA knows finding a good barber isn't easy. First off, there was great exclusive ambiance, soft seats, the jams bumping in the back round, waiting wasn't too bad, overall better than most of the other barbershops I have been too. There is a modern feel that most others lack. Everyone including me, got great kuts, so I had no problem waiting because I was confident in their ability to make me fresh, at the end, my girl liked my kut, and I liked the shop. Been to this shop three weeks in a row. The owner josh cut my hair the first couple of times and I got a cut from one of the employee barbers just yesterday. I am an Alhambra native and have been to most all of the barber shops from the $8 hair cut hole in the walls, to west on on main and this place surpasses all of them in professionalism and most importantly quality. I highly recommend trying out a cut for anyone dissatisfied or tired of their current barber. read more

I found out about these guys on Yelp and the reviews don't lie! I booked my appointment online and waited no more then 5 minutes. I wasn't really sure what I wanted but Kevin walked me through it and hooked me up with a great looking cut. The barbers here are super talented. I've been coming here for the past couple months, and every different barber I try.. I'm extremely happy with the outcome everytime. They're all experienced and know how to cater to what their customers want. I've never seen a dissatisfied customer whenever i've been in the shop. I had a great experience with my stylist Josh. The salon is open convenient hours so I was able to make an appointment after a late night at work. The staff was friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere stylish and warm and my haircut, look fantastic and are super easy to manage. My stylist also gave me easy tips for maintaining the cut/color and suggested products that have made a noticeable difference on my hair. I highly recommend this salon. read more

Our son's haircut turned out good and just as he asked for. They accepted zelle which was convenient. My only criticism is that they were playing an adult themed show on the TV pretty loudly. So when a loud sex scene came on and my 13 year old was looking at me with huge eyes I had to say something to have staff change the channel. Maybe they don't get a lot of kids here? We'll def be back though. Also, there's a super rad community fridge just outside the place that was crazy stocked with fresh food from local restaurants. This was so cool and heat-warming to see.

He didn't style it or take his time. He shaved one side, kind of half-heartedly, and thought that's all I wanted. When I told him I needed both sides done, he seemed annoyed. The whole thing took less than 15 minutes, and he still charged $30 for a really sloppy job. He did two quick snips on the top and called it "textured." Honestly, I feel ripped off. I wouldn't have minded paying that if he actually took the time to do it right and made the haircut look good. But the end result just wasn't it.
