As to the review from a few years ago about being yelled at by "rednecks", I can only say that I would have just ignored somebody like that and gone and talked to the boss in the office to tell the guy off. I think these characters are no longer there. Also, complaining about what they pay is useless. They state clearly that everything you bring to them it is just metals, so what an item cost originally or is worth is of no concern. Just ask your self why you are "recycling" ? For me it is not to make money. I don't follow the going rates for metals. I like to do good for the environment and the few bucks you get can be spent at the hot dog place next door:-) It's close to where I work and I am happy to have this place for drop off, instead of putting stuff into regular garbage. May times I am just happy to leave stuff without being paid.

I have been literally throwing money away by recycling my bottles at the transfer station or forgetting to use the little credit receipts that I get from the supermarket machines until now. This was easy and I got the deposit money back from soda cans, wine bottles and beers all in one place. Some of my items did not have return value in NY and Leona was careful to show me how to check which could be redeemed and which could not without being dismissive or rude about it and was clear about counting and adding up my returns. This was a simple way to reduce waste into the landfill plus get back my deposit money for all my cans and bottles. I highly recommend.

At prime times of day, the line of cars can get long. But it moves. They set aside items that still have value, and you can pick them up for a buck or two donation. I got a nice beach umbrella , and I've picked through the book bin and gotten some good, new books ! But I do that only when it's not busy there.

There is no charge for recycling at the Chestnuthill Township Recycling Center/Transfer Station and all residents are encouraged to save money by participating in the pay-as-you-throw program. This simply means that at the recycling center/transfer station you only pay for the items which you cannot recycle (at the current rate of $2 per 30 gallon bag). Additionally, the Township offers yard waste shredding and composting services for the residents, who are welcome to use the compost for their yard and garden projects.
