Hidden Gem on the central coast. RV overnight spaces, charter fishing, seafood market, restaurants, dog beach, boat yard, and mooring. Very clean, well maintained, and plenty of parking. There is plenty of beach, and street side parking. We enjoy making a day trip out of it. You can pretty much set up camp for the day and enjoy the scenery. Bob Jones Trail, pier walking, Avila Beach Boardwalk, Golf Course, Pirates Cove, fishing, kayak rentals, and my favorite..Farmers Market on Friday afternoon.

Love this beach for dogs! I call it dog heaven. They can run and play all they want leash free! All kinds of RVs parked along by the road and cars will have to get lucky to find a parking spot on a weekend. The water was not really clean but instead had a brown film that left residue on the fine sand. No one seemed too bothered by whatever this substance is and dogs and people alike were playing in the water. There are a few entrepreneurs set-up on the sand offering kayak rentals, dog washes, beach chairs, sand toys, etc...The water was gentle and it would be fun to kayak or paddle board. This is a great beach for letting Fido run, splash, and play but watch out for dog poop and beware of what's floating in the water.

Great off leash dog beach. Lots of parking and a good, big area for dogs to run wild. Most of the beaches in Avila do not allow dogs from 8am-5pm so this is a nice area for dog-owners. Only downside is the large amounts of seaweed which completely covers the entire beach (but it is a beach lol)

I grew up in the Central Coast and one of the things I wanted to do when I "grew up" was drive a car on the pier! Long a go my parents drove us kids down the Santa Barbara Pier and when I spied the opportunity to do it here at the harbor I HAD to do it! It feel REALLY weird like my big heavy Tahoe is going to crack a board and we are all going to drown... then I see a big heavy maintenance truck and think oh we are fine!... wait... why was there a big maintenance truck on the pier?!?! Yikes... now I get it!

I LOVE this place. It's so transcendental, in that Emerson/Thoreau kind of way. It's one of my favorite places where I can totally get lost in nature and be at peace. Take a leisurely stroll on the pier. Get lost in a trance from watching the swaying waves. See the elusive sea otters groom themselves as they float on their backs. See barking California sea lions lie around below the pier. See harbor seals swim, well, in the harbor! See gray whales breach (when the season is right). They are NOT shy. :) Smile at the pelicans as they hang out on the pier railing. Watch the midday feeding frenzy take place not too far from the pier. It's unlike anything you've ever seen! Sea lions, cormorants, seagulls, and pelicans, and sometimes great white sharks (they are common here), all creating a big splash as they feast on the thousands of sardines in the water. It's almost too frightening to watch! Oh, yeah. It's also worth eating a meal over at The Olde Port Inn for some excellent seafood and drinking some excellent local wines. And while at the restaurant, if sitting in the patio area, you can still enjoy the view of the water. Go at night, and it's still pretty mesmerizing. Situated near Avila Beach, this pier, known as Port San Luis Pier or Harford Pier has been around since 1873! Well, at least the original. The one that now stands is from 1915. It had to be rebuilt since the original pier was destroyed by a tidal wave in 1878. So, it's pretty old. Usually, parking is not a problem here. There is a huge lot near the pier, and often I have been able to find a parking spot easily. This place is a MUST whenever on the Central Coast. At least for me it is. Every person I have brought here seem to really like it, too. :)

The view from our trailer. Stunning!

I'm currently here for camping. We came a few days early and set up since its first come first serve. Our spot on the side of the main road looks directly out too the beautiful harbor. There are few places this beautiful and yet accessible anymore. Dogs run off leash, there are fire pits on one of the two beaches, it's not as crowded as the big beach in Avila, there are Kayak rentals and good restaurant's within walking distance plus a fish market. We don't live far so we come here often to spend a few hours playing in the water, searching for crabs and poking the sea anemones. No alcohol allowed on the beach so hide your liquor ;-) oh I almost forgot, the kids love the seals that hang out at the pier and often times come swimming by. The birds here are pretty incredible too. I must say I do love this place.

Friends and family gathered to make this a truly memorable occassion in this lovely place. Located on a main street in Avila Beach, the Community Center is behind the Post Office. Since virtually everything in Avila is relatively new, this is a bright modern and very functional space with a lovely view from the back balcony. There is a large parking lot below, which is hampered a bit by some ongoing construction. As someone who coordinated a huge social event in the county for half a decade, I can really appreciate the facilities available here to the public. There is a large kitchen with a pass through to the main room, there are tables and chairs available, and bathrooms off a small side hall. The banquet/meeting room also has AV equipment available for rent if desired. The multi-purpose room holds up to 150 people depending on the use. The rates vary from $50-$60 per hour, and there is a security deposit as well as a cleaning fee, which also vary depending on usage. You don't have to live in Avila Beach to use this facility. You can get a discount by joining the Avila Beach Civic Assocation, and being a member for one year to obtain 25% off the fees. I attended as a guest, and really enjoyed the guests, the fresh sea air, and beautiful weather at Avila, as well as the gorgeous sunset as the event wound down. I will keep this venue in mind for future fun!

In general, the restored houses & the interesting stuff, is not open to the public, except on special occasions. I am a donor & supporter and even I often get forgotten for email invites. Since I am a relatively new local & was not born & raised here, my enthusiasm is not as great as those who can trace their ancestry back to Price's time. Awhile back, when I first donated, I went to check the place out. I found some hardy volunteers struggling with cutting grass & dealing with a water leak. I helped as best as I could, until a kind police officer used quite a bit of muscle to fully close a shut off main. After that ordeal, the caretaker was kind enough to give me a brief, but nice little tour of the inside of the Price house. While volunteers did an amazing job of restoration, some stuff was not original. The history of Price house can be found on the internet, if you are curious. As for the park area itself, it is pleasant enough, but rather raw & undeveloped. There is really not much to do nor see...especially for kids. I do appreciate the place for it's history & it still being sort of a serene oasis among the ugly developments. I have also found it to be a nice spot for some wildflower pics when in season. I think that it is a nobel endeavor & they do on-line donations if you are kind enough.

In the city of SLO, bars, breweries and wine-tasting facilities are to close. Restaurants and coffee shops may only sell food and drinks to go, or for delivery. All essential government operations and businesses will remain open, including grocery stores, gas stations, and banks. According to a county official, residents are encouraged to voluntarily comply, however violations could be considered a misdemeanor. It is anticipated the shelter-at-home order will remain in effect for thirty days.

She was SO RUDE!! I do not know how someone like this is still employed here, even if she volunteers, she's costing this place money! I checked my email again, it said 1pm!
