This place kind of reminds me a little of Twist in Portland (in fact, they have some of the same artists' stuff here as at Twist) - lots of stuff I'd like to have in my home, none of which I could afford. Do the prices reflect the quality? In some cases, yes, in others, maybe not. But the true value of art lies in the eye of the beholder. So that's just my opinion. High-end work and, as expected, comparatively high-end prices. Definitely worth a browse, and if you have the ends, you'll probably leave with your hands full of some treasure.

The lighting and display is excellent, and the work is always professional quality. The media and styles are diverse, but the art always has that something extra: humor, a different point of view, an unexpected angle that creates work to be enjoyed for the long term. The gallery has two rooms. The day we visited, the well lit front had a display of art made from re-cycled/re-purposed materials. Very creative. It was with many artists mostly from the Olympic Peninsula area. The back gallery was a more the diverse collection of different media. All the artists are top shelf and not amateurish. My only complaint (selfishly so) is the lack of art photography (not the klitchy street festival kind). One or two pieces would be nice.

When I let her know that I had planned on buying jewelry, she informed me that I should have interrupted her phone call. I told her I didn't think I should have had to do that. "I'm doing BUSINESS!" Was her reply, and then, "BYEEEE!" She alienated a local who wanted to purchase local art. I won't be walking through the doors of Gallery 9 again. Sadly this is how local artists are being represented on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in PT.

He welcomed us in and let us browse. We had made the rounds and expressed our fandom to the artist, even though we didn't have the resources to purchase. He was ready to chat, so we hung out for awhile and talked with him about his art and experiences. He told us about what was happening with the county and about some issues worth voting on. He's a very nice guy and a brilliant artist. If you are in Port Townsend, be sure to stop in to the Max Grover Gallery!

William's Gallery specializes in locally made artwork from the Pacific Northwest of Washington State. They have amazing art glass by artists in the Port Townsend area too. In addition, you'll find some nice paintings, jewelry, wood art, chocolates and textiles. It's a really small gallery, but almost all of the items are handmade, so at least you're getting something original and special.

They make comments like the artist is dead so there won't be any more of these pieces made and we are the only place that the artist sold through in the states. I did my own research later and found out that the artist was very much alive and that he is also sold through Macy's department store. Don't believe anything Bill (co-owner) tells you.

There were many pieces up for sale on the walls, mostly large pieces and in sets such as triptychs. They were either nautical or of nature in general, such as landscapes. Acrylics on canvas, the art is bright and cheerful. We didn't purchase a piece, so no feedback on the purchasing process.
