On a sunny the day the views over Belfast Lough are unbeatable. The park itself is a 5 minute walk from Holywood High Street and local amenities but you'd think it was a million miles away due to its tranquility. The park facilities include a huge grassy area ideal for summer BBQ's and walking dogs. There's also a refurbished play park, which is always a hit with kids. On a summers day an ice cream van will park up in Seapark and you'll be able to grab yourself a snack in between playing. Seapark is also the beginning of the National Trust North Down Coastal Path that snakes along the coast all the way to Groomsport. If you fancy a walk or cycle on a nice day then look no further than the coastal path. At every corner you'll be hit with stunning beauty and culture (Grey Point Lookout). This is a popular route for dog walkers and you'll often see friendly pooches off their leads, so if you have little ones with you keep them close especially if they are a little bit sheepish around dogs.

We recently joined the National Trust in order to get in to some of the country's best parks and…read moregardens but after a walk at Crawfordsburn and down the North Down coast we began to question why, especially with scenery like this on our doorstep. Around 15 minutes from central Belfast and the same from Bangor Town Centre Crawfordsburn really is as convenient as they come! Dog walkers, day trippers and joggers come here in their droves and I don't blame them because there's something for everyone. There's lovely woodland walks through the park itself, a beautiful beach with a large grassy area for picnics and a walk along the coast with views over to Carrickfergus and beyond on a clear day. Yesterday was one of those majestic days at Crawfordsburn where the spring sunshine shimmered on Belfast lough reflecting a warm glow of happiness throughout the whole park! We decided on the coastal walk as we had Ted (our dog) with us. We walked all the way from the park itself to past Carnalea Golf Course, this walk winds all the way up the coast. There's plenty of benches to to stop at and plenty of places for you to get a photo of Belfast Lough in all it's glory (as you've probably seen from my uploads). The park itself has seen a good bit of investment recently with new picnic tables being installed and the welcome addition of a play area that doubles as a nature reserve. There's toilet facilities and plenty of parking (at least 3 car parks). Yesterday there was an ice cream van parked on the grassy area by the beach but he only comes out when the sun is shining. All in all this is a fantastic place for a walk on a sunny day, beware of summer bank holidays as it's known for drinking but otherwise it's a wholesome day out for everyone with loads to see and do!

Recently whole sections of the forest had to be cut down but I've been told new trees will be planted. Situated in Newcastle the views from the top of the hills are magnificent....you can see right down to the town and the sea. It costs £5 entrance fee for a car, however we have a yearly pass which is £50, this allows unlimited visits to Tollymore and also Castlewellan and Gosford country parks if I remember correctly. There are several toilet blocks, lots of car parking and usually a chip van and Ice cream van (more so at weekends and holidays). There is also a caravan/camping site which is reasonably priced and who wouldnt enjoy waking up to a view of the Mournes. Definitely worth a visit if you fancy a change from busy shops and towns.

We recently took an impromptu drive from Bangor to Tollymore Forest Park. It took us about 1hour…read more30mins to get there, however I'm not convinced we took the quickest route. We went through Belfast, but later were told we should have gone through Comber & Downpatrick. Anyhoo.....when we arrived it was definitely worth the drive! It cost us £5 per car, paid on arrival to the car park attendant. We packed a picnic and as we had 2 dogs with us tried to find a more secluded place away from the crowds so set down our blanket. This was easily done due to the vast scale of the place. You aren't required to stick to the path so we ventured off and found some lovely grassy areas where our dogs could play and we didn't have to worry about them approaching other walkers. I didn't see any signs saying to keep dogs on a lead, so we didn't. We came across other walkers that did, and we seemed to get some funny looks. However we also saw other dogs off the lead so as far as we were concerned we were doing nothing wrong. I would recommend to keep your dog on the lead in the busier picnic areas if they aren't well trained. The scenery in Tollymore is simply stunning. There is a real medieval feel to the place. Big stone castle like walls with turrets.....wide rivers, bridges, lakes, gardens....you name it! The backdrop of the Mourne Mountains just makes it even more perfect. You can normally find a little ice cream van in the car park, selling crisps etc aswell. But from what I saw you can't get any sort of substantial meal so definitely bring a picnic if you are planning on spending some time here. However there is always the option to take the short 5min drive into the centre of Newcastle town for a sit down meal if that's what you are after. There is also a large public toilet block in the carpark. Not much to say about them.....they are public afterall, you shouldn't expect anything gleaming. I will definitely be visiting Tollymore alot more over the coming summer months. It's a treat!

The present site of the Harbour Office has been in use since 1847 as the headquarters of the…read moreBelfast Harbour Commissioners. The building was constructed between 1847 - 1854, firstly designed by George Smith in 1854 and later by the Belfast architect William Henry Lynn. The building was done in style of an Italian palazzo. It features some gorgeous marble mosaic floors and stunning stained glass windows the most impressive of which shows the Seal of Belfast Harbour Commissioners, others depict commerce, ship building and enterprise as well as featuring a number of the coat of arms of cities with which Belfast has done business. The site is also home to a fascinating art galley. The collection here has been built up over the years by Harbour Commissioners. The gallery is located in ornate and opulent rooms decorated in Victorian fashion, the art works nestle themselves happily on these walls. The rooms boast work from prominent Irish artists such as; William Conor and Joseph Carey. There are also a number of sculptures from France and Italy. Mainly though the collection is impressive in its historical importance. There are a number of old landscapes, historical events and relevant scenes from Belfast's past. For example there is an 1851 painting of Belfast Harbour's Ferry Steps. Other pieces include the portrait of Sir Robert Baird, Proprietor of the Belfast Telegraph and Harbour Commissioner from 1932 to 1934. As part of European Heritage Weekend on 11th & 12th of September the Belfast Harbour Office will be open to the public for a chance to view the fascinating history within its walls and sneak a peek at the famous art collection.

Spent this morning at Millisle Beach Park and have to say I was thoroughly impressed. Amazing views…read moreof the water for us adults whilst also providing an abundance of fun for the kids. The pirate ship was a huge hit and while my 2 year old nephew was far too small for it, apparently just standing on it and turning the steering wheel provides ample entertainment. They also have two play park areas, one for older children and a great one for the younger. It was quite quiet so there was no fighting over the play area or swings. In addition, they have a full seat swing for children with disabilities which I thought was a great touch and I'm sure will be greatly appreciated by those who require it. Bring your own ball and you can use the dedicated football area. As an adult I would have loved a coffee to make this a top notch destination. Fingers crossed.

Way back in 2010 I was maybe a little bit harsh on Millisle beach park. Now I'm 28 I have started…read moreto appreciate scenery a whole lot more and there's not many places as scenic as Millisle beach. The beach itself stretches about 3 miles (when the tide is out) and makes a great place to walk the dog. You can let your dog off the lead here too, which they always love. The council have recently put some cash dollar in to a community garden and they are in the process of building a new drainage system. There's a nice play park too with a big pirate ship that lets kids keep watch for pirates sailing in the Irish Sea. With plenty of parking and great views it really does make for a nice walk even on a blustery autumn afternoon.

The Waterworks is a great place for an evening walk. It has great facilities for kids with a…read moreplayground floored with bark to avoid cuts and bruises. Living so close by I often walk around the grounds of The Waterworks - it's especially nice on summers evenings.

Our tour guide for the North Belfast walk bought us by this lovely park and told us some cool…read morethings about it: - Stephen Rhea (Oscar winning actor of the Crying Game movie) grew up in the house opposite the park. Look for a bright yellow door near shop called 'War on want" and that's his house. - in the early part of the century, if you are rich enough, you could buy an annual key to get into the park - glad it's free now! - this area was supposed to have been ''mistakenly" bombed instead of the ship building harbour during the first blitz but recent archives from Germany revealed that it was deliberate as they didn't want locals to have access to water for fire fighting the next round of blitz attacks. I loved the two lakes - reminded me a wee bit of the Serpentine in London's Hyde Park. It's a gorgeous bit of greenery, very calming and beautiful with the mini-waterfalls. We walked through the Botanical Gardens which are located adjacent to the university. As like…read moreeverything else in Ireland, the whole grounds were bright green and full of different plant species and lots and lots of flowers. I particularly liked their greenhouse. The beautiful white medal perfectly balanced the contrast between nature and industrial features while complementing the space and giving these particular plants a specific place to grow, such as succulents. The rose gardens reminded me of something from Alice in Wind with how the grass paths were weaved between the rose bushes and some of the flowers looked fake because they were so healthy and vibrant.  There are two newer greenhouses that were built specifically for tropical plants. Inside of each of these greenhouses, the temperature and humidity was set to stay at the perfect settings for these tropical plants to thrive. They were multiple stories so that the trees could grow tall and the vines could grow long and even go all the way up to the rafters. A great place to see and spend time on a sunny or partly cloudy day!!

The grounds included some magnificently lush green lawn for taking in the nice weather being experienced during our stay. The Ferris Wheel was well worth the nominal expense. Theres a automatic toilet unit which is 20p to get in, it self cleans as I waiting on the door to open it said wait self cleaning, pretty cool for a toilet. The toilet has a baby changing table and automatic soap dispenser, water and air and automatic flush. Also the voice inside reminds you to lock the door and to bring all your belongings with you. Handy toilet. I think you have a 15 minute time allowance in the toilet as I saw a timer display for 15 minutes. The children's park has been changed and its way better theres a massive climbing frame, baby swings, slides and spinning seats. Really good park most of the ground around the slides etc have rubber flooring which is handy if baby falls. Theres also a picnic table in the play area. This park is great for a walk or a run theres also outdoor gym equipment for adults placed around the park in different areas.

Great wide flat path that is easy walking /cycling/wheeling for all. There is also a more sort of nature trail on the outside bank and on the inside islands. Views of Harland and Wolff are great. Also the airport to see the planes. The inside island has has outdoor gym equipment and grass pitches. They have a great kids park and also a basketball court beside it. There is a bmx track next to it. There's plenty of ducks etc to see. The parking is good also. My face thing about the park is that there is no way you can get lost as it's an easy loop to follow. There's also a gate with walking access at 2 points to the Sydenham bypass. There's another entrance via the new Sam Thompson bridge over by the docks.
