Right on the main square or Zocolo of Oaxaco city is this very nice, large restaurant. On the second floor, you enter at ground level and make your way up to the dining room. As mentioned, the room is very large and there is a balcony that overlooks the Zocolo activity.
The menu is replete with Oaxacan dishes along with lots of seafood options. I had the octopus (pulpa a la brasa) which was a whole octopus grilled. Very good and very filling. We also had elote soup, elote being a herb, very similar looking to cilantro, but a more bitter flavor. It was a cream soup and quite good.
Wife loved the mescal margaritas, called a Mescalini. Different drinks daily as specials. Made with mescal, a relative of tequila...with the worm in the bottle, it is a very tasty and different flavor to we gringos from outside of Mexico. She also had a chicken breast sandwich.
The views are great. Service superb. Food good, but not out-of-this-world. A pleasant experience. read more
