I stopped by Stanman's Kitchen for a cuppa and a snack…read more Little did I realise what a treat I was in for until my cuppa arrived. The Englilsh Breakfast tea (which lets face it is usually standard fare and a little bland and ordinary), turned out to be a Tea Pigs brew. I could tell it was different by the bio degradble tea bag and the actual leaves in the bag. The lady who served me commented on the cream in the milk as it was organic. Now the combination of the milk and the wonderful tea made for a fantastic cuppa. It truly was very tasty and not like any other English Breakfast brew I have ever had. I accompanied my tea with a handmade butter flapjack which melted in my mouth. I was so pleased I purchased a larger flapjack and a packet of tea bags to take home. Sadly they had none of the English brew left but kindly gave me the equivalent number from a fresh catering pack and parcelled it up for me to ensure they got home as fresh as they had come out of the packet. The shop is full of wonderful organic and delciatessen delights and is a real gem in a street full of dowdy shops. I throughly enjoyed my visit and I urge anyone visiting Gloucester to try them.

This one is situated in a bookshop so not only do you get a good cup of coffee and a nice piece of cake but you can also take a book and have a read while you are having a drink. In a world where £5 starts to be the standard for a good lunch to walk away with a toastie and a drink for a pound less and feel like you robbed the place is refreshing. Plus i have to love the "proper" pricing of the extras. Penguins at 2 for 50p is as it should be. Toast is pretty tucked away as it stands, on the other side of the docks, but if your going for a stroll its well worth a stop and who knows, as the docks grow time will tell if Toast doesn't become the central place for a toasty snack. (Oh and thumbs up for free wifi too!)

It is a typical English greasy spoon, a bit small, but kept spotless and the food served is always hot tasty and plentiful for amazingly good value. The cellar bar is atmospheric and offers something a bit different to most city centre bars. There are regularly changing ales on offer and the staff are quite knowledgeable about those too. IF you want to book a table/function, then give them a call instead.

This is definitely worth a visit on a nice Saturday morning as there is a outdoor market with 10-15 stalls (food & crafts). I had a cappuccino and a vegetarian platter. The capuchin was tasty, and didn't last through the meal. The veggie platter was interesting, 2 poached eggs on 2 pieces of toast, one with a hummus spread topped with sautéed mushrooms and one with a guacamole spread and roasted tomatoes. I also added the crispy potato (singular as you only get one ), it reminded me of hash browns from the states. And I added the baked beans, which was served in a mini iron skillet. The meal overall was quite tasty, but would've liked a bit more guacamole and hummus and a bit less toast; as the spreads were on the thin end of the spectrum. Bill's looked to be a southwestern American themed restaurant, I'd have to go back and check out their evening menu to confirm. As far as brunch goes, it's solid but not necessarily a standout;if give it a 3.5 if possible. Given the attentive and friendly service a 4.0 is fair.
