This is the train station in Malahide. It's not very big station. There are two platforms. Platform…read more1 is usually for the Dart (the Dublin Area Rapid Transit train). Malahide is the last stop for the Dart so that train ends here and then goes back south to either Greystones or Bray. Platform 2 (and sometimes 1) is for the commuter train that goes to/from Dublin city centre (Connolly, Tara Street, or Pearse) to/from either Balbriggan, or Dundalk, or Drogheda. Most of the station is outdoors. A large part of platform 1 is covered, but most of platform 2 isn't. There is a small waiting room on either side. The room on platform 2 tends to be closed after 9pm. There's a bridge to walk from each platform and a lift as well. There's a read out screen on each platform telling you of the next train arrival/departure. Since this is a small station there are no toilet facilities. There's a mineral/pop/soda machine on platform 1, but nothing on 2. During the day there's a small coffee/snack cart in the parking lot. If you enter the station on the platform 1 side there's two ticket kiosks to buy a train ticket or buy/top up a leap card. If you have a lot of change there's a limit to how much change you can put in the machine. There's also an attendant at a desk who's there until about 9pm. If you walk down the road (Dublin Road) and go down the stairs to enter on platform 2 there's one ticket machine there. They tend to close the gate to platform 2 after 8pm, so you'll have to enter on platform 1 and walk over the bridge to the other platform. If you're visiting Dublin it's easy to take the Dart to Malahide. Malahide is a small enough town you can come here for a day trip, or you can stay here, and take the Dart to/from Dublin. The station isn't fancy, but it does it's job.

At no point in time did I feel in danger or awkward which typically happens to me all of the time. The navigation was simple enough for us and the ticket booth was automated and simple to use. Dublin is a massive town and I would take this train station over driving any day! If you're visiting, be sure to take it!

The location is very nicely lit and the design of it is very easy to navigate and figure out, even if it is your first time here. There is security all around so I felt safe while I was here, waiting for my tour to begin. I will say I do wish there was more seating because as soon as I got up to grab a coffee, people were trying to swoop in and take my spot. I also wish there was heating here, I felt like an ice cube while I was waiting around in the seating area. There is a handful of places to grab some food and drinks and the coffee stands had some reasonably priced coffee that I decided to get while waiting. The flavor was nice and helped keep me warm while I sat and waited! Bathrooms were also very clean but got busy very quick when the station started getting more and more people in as the morning was progressing.

There are nine train platforms as well as bus routes and the Luas stop in front. I found the station easy to navigate with good signage and smooth floors. It is completely accessible with a big board showing Iarnród Éireann departures. Many food vendors with grab and go sandwiches, snacks, drinks, coffee and the like. The station was built in 1846 as Kingsbridge station. It was renamed in 1966 for Seán Heuston, one of the executed leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising who had worked in the station's offices. Pearse station is probably my main DART station as it is only a short distance from where I live…read moreand somewhat close to where I work. As others have noted, it does have a few key features which differentiate it from other stations such as a roof, making it much more enclosed and somewhat more guarded from the elements, a cafe, restrooms (be warned and use sparingly if possible) and lifts on both sides of the tracks. They also have quite a few automated machines, top-ups and someone selling tickets and answering questions. I am not sure why the picture which looks like a library is included on this review, but hopefully that gets updated at some point. One day I noticed that they have a really grand entrance actually on Pearse street. One day the doors were opened (probably construction crew left it open) and I stumbled in. They should really open this side up as it was an impressive entrance although perhaps more people would just enter from the Westland Row area anyway. It certainly is more convenient for me. Overall, it is my main station I use to get everywhere I need to go on the DART. It is probably better than most stations (hence the 4 star ranking).

Pearse Station (not Pearse Street Station, as it is on Westland Row and not on Pearse st, though…read morePearse St is very close by so it's confusing) is not exactly a marvel of design like St Pancras, but it does have the distinct advantage over a lot of railway stations of having a roof. And it has a cobblers, and the snappily titled coffee shop, "Southbound" or something. And yes, the toilets are quite unpleasant, what with the UV lights to stop junkies shooting up and all, but a set of toilets is more than can said for most Dart stations. Not saying I'm in love with Pearse St or anything, just putting things in perspective.
