Really enjoyed my stay here while hiking the Isle of Skye. This is a new hostel but ever since they've opened, they've been at 94% capacity. I was here during the high season (i.e. summer) and seemed like all hostels on the Isle of Skye were booked up. I called up this hostel and was happy to hear about available beds. But ouch, price per bed per night is £22 (or around $35). A bit pricey, but by then I was already used to how pricey the UK is.
Awesome location, one minute walk from the bus station and not too far from the Co-op supermarket and Portree Harbour. If you continue walking past the harbour along the water, you'll eventually hit a trail with awesome views of the landscape.
Because the hostel is new, it's incredibly clean. No backpacker dinginess, yet! I had one of the greatest showers ever after a day of hiking Quiraing and Old Man of Storr on a rainy day. The common/dining room has an awesome view of the bay. Each bed has an electrical outlet and reading light. My 4-bed female dorm had a cabinet in which you can lock your belongings. I always bring my own padlock but you can get one from reception. I do wish there were more sinks and toilets. There were only two toilets and two sinks on my floor.
Kitchen has a place to store your groceries on shelves, and stickers are provided so you can label your stuff placed in the fridge and shelf. There are 8 burners, a microwave, an oven and plenty of bowls and plates. However, it was quite crowded around dinner time with everyone preparing their meals at the same time. I also noticed no common ingredients like spices nor oil was provided.
Upon check-in, you're given a code you have to enter in your browser to access the wifi. However the wifi kept logging out so I had to keep re-entering the code. But at least there was wifi. My SIM card plan included data but it never worked on the Isle of Skye!
I noticed a lot of families staying at the hostel but not too many single travelers the time I was there. Not really a party hostel. I really hated to leave this place. read more
