This review is for the Indian cuisine. Food is authentic scratch made in house by an Indian national. I was surprised at how young this talented chef is when he stopped by our table to check on us. Don't let the run down place fool you, this food is legit and absolutely delicious! You'll enter the steak house and the waitress will hand you their menu. My experience started with a "seat yourself" sign. It was genuinely hard to find a cleaned off table to sit at. I'm sure I got the last one. I didn't wait long for my first "hello." She asked me what I wanted to drink. I said a Diet Pepsi. I got a regular. I asked again, she brought me diet Dr Pepper. I politely said, "Let's try this again." We got it on the third try. As I was reading the menu, I heard 2 men complaining adamantly that they're food tasted like "burnt grease," to which the waitress responded, "Our regular chef is sick and the backup is all alone." I'm not sure how that matters, but okay. To play fair, the two men were grumpy old couch cushions, regardless, they're customers. I ordered the salad bar. The lettuce is ice burg that went through like a spaghetti maker. It was long and stringy. The items in the salad bar are not cold. It's room temperature. I have concerns. Also, there were about 5-7 flies walking on all of it. I sat back down, I waited for my waitress. I handed her a $5, and said, "That's for the soda the rest is yours. I don't think I want to eat here." I politely walked out. I hate giving only one star, I think it's petty, but this place earned it. If I can't feel comfortable eating the food at a place that does food, then I gotta go. The waitress seemed like a genuinely nice person, and I hope I didn't offend her. She probably deserves better working conditions, I don't know. We're supposed to review the food, and I didn't want to. read more

My husband and daughter had the buffet and both said the food was good. The salad bar looks fresh and clean. There is a nice variety. The buffet part is small but well organized and clean. The food was hot and had a good flavor/texture, you know how buffets can be questionable sometimes. The quality is good here. Today they had fried fish, shrimp, and fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, and cooked carrots. I ordered the Western burger which was 1/3 lb of hamburgerbacon, cheddar cheese, and an onion ring topped with bbq sauce. I also got onion rings as my side. We all had water to drink. Our waitress was friendly and prompt. The place is being reworked and has a lot of potential. The manager is really friendly and personable. They were doing some work on the building, but it didn't affect the dining experience. read more

They are under new management and do not have Indian food on the menu anymore. The food we did order (breakfast and a burger) was cooked fresh and tasted great. You can tell they are working hard to elevate everything. read more

Phenomenal cuisine, highly reccomend the butter chicken! The staff as well absolutely courteous to any requests.

Parking for big trucks is plenty even late at night. The store is just as convenient as your typical travel store. However, I can't say the same for the restaurant. First off the wait for a simple steak, potato and toast was just too long. Second, the cook couldn't even deliver a medium well steak without burning it on the outside (charred). Furthermore, it was dry as in the inside meat was plain white in texture, most likely frozen straight to the grill without defrosting to room temp before cooking; just over cooked altogether. Third, if a simple request of NOT putting butter on the toast cannot be followed, you have no business cooking at a supposedly "Family Restaurant". And lastly, I wanted to give their pies a try as carry out, but then I was told that they weren't fresh, I suspect couple days old according to the waitress look. I consumed less than 1/3 of the meat, didn't touch the toast but I finished the stuffed potato but still, the food doesn't warrant my bill. SMH. read more

Once upon a time.. things were good here.. but that was long ago. New owners with management have changed everything about this place.. not in a good way. Avoid at all costs and dine elsewhere, even if that means driving a few more hours down the road. Employees are unsupervised and untrained. It's all lack of management.. maybe someday this place can become a restaurant again, but not in the foreseeable future. Too bad. read more

Food was great, cleanliness was acceptable but could use some dusting. Worse part for me is there was only one hostess for the while entire restaurant. We went the first time in the evening and the poor waitress was running around so crazy, we just left because she had enough people without us. And we were tired. Tried again this morning, same situation- one waitress for the whole restaurant. Keeps her from being able to give the best service when she's trying to see that many people at one time. Stopped in for a break, and after reading the reviews I didn't have high hope's. Wow are they wrong, ordered some chili and nachos. Was told there would be a delay and I didn't mind. Less than 10 minutes past and my food was delivered hot and fresh with an apology!! Yea he nacho plate is huge, and the chili had a nice kick to it. Ended up having to box 3/4 of the nachos. Manager came by to apologize for the delay, to which I informed him that there was no delay by my standards, he also checked up during the meal. Of course server was attentive as well. Highly recommend if you need a break and are looking for a nice comfortable place. read more

Stopped in for late bite at 9:30. Sign says 24 hr. Staff was preoccupied with each other so much so that I literally walked back to the kitchen to get silverware to eat with and none of them offered to get up or help. Salad bar had flys on it, soup was burned in the pots and the fruit was rotten. Do yourself a favor and stop at the McDonalds or Burger King. read more

This place is TERRIBLE! Took the family to eat here and had the worst experience I ever had. Several of us ordered the buffet and the food is dry and tasted very old(hopefully we will not get sick from this). We ordered the kids mac and cheese, hamburger, and chicken strips. The meal took over 45 minutes to get. Asked the waiter what is going on, just to receive attitude. She said they are waiting on the fries to get done. The kids finally got their food just to get uncooked fries. The chicken strips where so dry that they where hard. We went up front to pay and complain about the experience. There answer was " oh well". Worst experience and worst food ever. NEVER GOING BACK THERE and that is to bad. Been going there for over 15 years now. read more

Not only did it take nearly an hour to get food (they were not even remotely busy), but the chicken strips wer e very overdone, nearly 1/2 of the bacon was burned and the steak (ordered medium) was so over done it was burned. They removed the cost of the steak, but we had no desire to wait another hour to get another one. Waitress was slightly apologetic. We used to thoroughly enjoy eating here. The food used to be good and the service was always good. Since this isn't first time in the recent past that our experience has been like this, we won't be back. read more

Stopped in Lamar on the way to Rapid City, SD from SA, TX and found there were not a lot of choices for dinner (surprisingly lots of Asian food). We decided to try Ports to Plains because it was one of the only places that served alcohol (just being honest...we had been in the car with kids for more than 10 hrs). We went for the beer, but would 100% recommend this for the food. I had liver and onions (kinda have to in a travel stop diner in the Midwest), and it was delicious. One of my. kids had a cheeseburger that she claims was also very good (and she eats lots of cheeseburgers...I know, dad of the year). The highlight though was my wife's fried chicken. And we only had to wait an extra 10-15 mins for it (it's ok, did I mention they had beer?). It was one of the best fried chicken we've had, definitely worth stopping for it. Skip the salad bar and just go with a side salad for 1/2 price. read more
