First let me say we will be back. Our first experience was New Years Eve dinner and we made the reservation on Yelp. The location is not that big and their reservation list was massive. It took 45 minutes after our reservation time to be seated. There just didn't seem to be enough help for the dinner event with one bartender and no dedicated staff to bus the tables to turn them faster. The food was amazing with the lobster risotto and grilled chicken. We also selected the four dip appetizer which was really flavorful. I had a phenomenal time at Poseidon last Sunday night! Coming from a movie at O Cinema on South Beach we yelp'd our way over to Poseidon for a late dinner. We had forgotten it was Miami Wine and Food Fest and spent forever trying to find parking before the movie so it was an absolute relief to get seated right away when we sat down for dinner. Our waiter was excellent in making recommendations and steering us to their 3 course meal to get a good taste of everything. He brought some delicious bread with a balsamic glaze and feta for us to snack on. After checking in and getting an offer for a free glass of champagne, the waiter brought an extra for my friend too. We sat and ate our appetizers while we waited for our main. I have the spanakopita, pastitsio and the orange pie for my course. My friend ordered the Santorini favs, mousaka and baklava. We enjoyed our meal but had to take dessert and half our mains to go to make sure we got to our car before parking expired. Excellent service, phenomenal meal and great value. I had read some reviews of the octopus here, while hanging out in the off-season and decided to check it out solo. The octopus here is some of the best I've ever had and I try it frequently as I'm fond of it when it is well executed. When it's tender on the inside with an nice char on the outside with flavor it's amazing. The preparation with chickpeas made it complete. Coming from a place where there is very little Greek food we had high hopes for this restaurant and wanted to try it. We had a very light breakfast earlier in the day and we're famished and ready for an amazing meal. Unfortunately our hopes were dashed. The drinks were amazing and the service was good but that isn't all that it takes for a place to be good. We adore calamari and ordered the appetizer... it had good flavor but was rather chewy. I ordered the soup of the day (chicken noodle) and I couldn't finish it. Maybe it is my lack of experience with Greek food but is was not what I would consider amazing. The leg of lamb... there was nothing special about this at all. The scallops were over cooked and rubbery. The star of this meal was the naan bread with the soup and the drinks. We ate at 6pm and there were only 3 other tables. We had to ask for our check three times and paid with cash and was still charged the card fee. If we use a service we understand the fee but we asked for the money back for the card fee and it was refunded. Maybe it was an off night and previous reviews have been good (which is why we choose it) but I felt the need to share my experience so others are aware. read more

I like to try different foods while traveling especially things I can't make myself or get at home. I was in the mood for great Greek food. And not fast food Greek. I did a Yelp search and luckily Poseidon Greek popped up close to my hotel. This place did not disappoint. Everything is made in house. The Cultural Greek Trip appetizer was a great way to start and way to much for two people. All the great greek dips and homemade pita. We also got the "real deal greek salad" fresh tomatoes and all the feta. The lamp chops are so tender and fresh with all those wonderful traditional greek seasonings. Still love this place! We sat inside for a change and it was quite nice. You don't get the noise from the street and you have a nice view of city hall. We went with the usual bronzino, with bones, because it's so much more appetizing to work for your food! We had the choriatiki and I didn't remember their cheese being this good last time. It was like eating a delectable dessert (cheese lovers know what I'm talking about), and we had the platter of dips -- their spicy feta was fantastic. We drove a long way, battled with parking for 15 minutes bc their website said they had valet, then they didn't. Every. Single. Source. Said they had swordfish. And they didn't. The waitress was even surprised: "oh, interesting. I guess we don't have it anymore." We came all this way. Just for their website to be outdated. My parents also ordered the snapper, then she came back and said that the only fish they had left was the branzino. My parents liked it, but it's odd that they had no other fish bc we still got there 3-4 hours before they closed. And what. On earth. Is this service charge??? Apparently restaurants just do this in Miami - add an extra 20% for... nothing??? It's not even an automatic tip - there was still a space to add a tip. You can't remove the charge or anything. And if you can, we weren't informed. I can't give 3.75 stars, but 3.75 stars. The food and everything was fantastic, but the other stuff I mentioned was just upsetting. Blown away. Ordered Moussakka, Spinach Pie and Baklava. Lord help me, the moussaka is quite literally the best I've ever had (including in Athens). Deep fill. Incredible flavours. Just the right amount of cheese sauce. Crispy topping. GET IT. Portion size is huge - much bigger than the photo looks. Spinach pie - great. Light pastry, creamy middle and the spinach flavour is there but not too strong. Baklava, crispy, sweet but not too sweet. A great finish to an incredible takeout. Service was outstanding too. I arrived a little early and they were keen to sit me and the bar with an iced lime water. I'm not surprised this has such a high Yelp rating. 4.5 stars. I really wish I could give this place 5 stars. The food was incredible. The free champagne was delightful. The grilled octopus won that award for good reason. The seafood pasta was eh, but the lamb chops were supreme. The hospitality offered at this place is almost unmatched. From the owner to the servers I felt very well taken care of. That is until the bill came. I made a rookie mistake and didn't check the bill closely; they automatically add an 18% gratuity. I ended up paying an extra 20% -- a price I would've paid happily (I loved this meal so much), had there not been a feeling of being taken advantage of. When it's time to pay, the server runs the card on an iPad, and hands it back to you and waits (hovers) when it's time to add the tip. The screen that showed up on the iPad did NOT specify it was an additional tip. This is definitely the restaurant's call, and I'm ultimately glad that extra amount went to the server. I just wish the restaurant were more forthcoming with their tip policy. read more

Amazing spot for Mediterranean food in south beach with both indoor and outdoor seating. I went with my family on a Saturday night (we were a party of 7) and we had no problem getting seated. We sat outside and, although the outdoor seats were pretty low, they were very comfortable. I checked in on yelp and got a complimentary champaign flute. Then they brought out bread for the table with a delicious spread on it. They even brought us another bread with the same spread (but made without nuts) since my sister is allergic to nuts. We ordered a couple of appetizers (pita with spreads, flaming cheese, & octopus) and they were all amazing. They also gave us more pita for the spreads when we ran out. They are known for their whole grilled fish and rightfully so. I ordered the branzino and opted to have it filleted for me. The branzino was fine, but the sauce they made for it was amazing. The rest of my family ordered a variety of things, but no one had any complaints. Very friendly, attentive, and fast service. 9.75/10 read more

Had a very lovely experience at Poseidon with my boyfriend. We were lucky it was not crowded when we stepped in for dinner. The staff was very friendly and seated us immediately. We decided to try their award-winning octopus as well as their tuna sashimi and their scallops entree. The dish of the night was definitely the octopus. It has won awards for a reason. We were both in heaven finishing that dish. I think I should have ordered one for myself. The tuna was very nice as well but when you have another favorite dish on the table, it's hard to truly appreciate the flavors of the runner-up. Last up were the scallops which had similar plating of lentils and a curry sauce like the octopus but was nowhere near as tender and delicious. Overall a pleasant outdoor dining experience with the best octopus I have ever had. Will be back for more of that. read more

Usually made with their premier olive oil. Well, it came out looking like it was standing in the refrigerator since the day before. Was supposed to be arugula, but it wasn't. Some leafy salad smothered in a honey dressing, Soggy. Just a few little cheap halved cherry tomatoes on top and a few soggy walnuts thrown around. Not a Greek salad. Just awful. My boyfriend and I tried to eat it but couldn't eat more than a few bites. NOTHING like it has been in the past. Then came the lamb chops. Way overcooked, seemed like old meat re- heated. No seasoning, absolutely tasteless. Could have been eating cardboard. Terrible dinner all around. Doesn't even deserve one star. The staff has always been nice. However, this time, the octopus was tender, almost buttery soft which made it that much more enjoyable to eat. Served on a bed of chickpeas in a light sauce, it was a perfect appetizer for me. RECOMMEND The hummus/eggplant/spicy feta/tzaziki platter was as well. Definitely a must have at a Greek/Mediterranean place. Best service in Miami!! Five stars to our wonderful server Sandra. She was so friendly and made us feel very welcome. She also happens to make excellent hookah; definitely the most reasonably priced in Miami Beach IF you come during their happy hour. They use the good coco Nara coals (a must for us) and the good quality flavors. If you are hungry get the platter with all the dips. While I enjoyed a lovely dinner with my wife here at the God of the Sea's favorite Greek eatery (when he's in Miami at least), I think it's better as a group dinner spot. (This isn't because I don't enjoy my wife's company, and I don't appreciate your insinuations.) It's because the portions are gigantic. I thought we were going light by splitting the whole bronzino, the Aphrodite salad, and the pita platter. You should know that the assorted Greek spread and pita platter is literally enough to feed two people for dinner on its own. I am ashamed to admit that it is the reason that I didn't finish my dinner for the first time in about 30 years. And not because it isn't good! The hummus, tzatziki, spicy feta dip, and babaghanouj (I'm assuming that's what they were) were all quite tasty, and the pita was fresh and hot. And this is after they brought out some nice grilled bread with olive oil. I wanted to finish that platter, but it was more important to pick the bones of the bronzino clean. A beautiful fish sacrificed itself for our dinner, and I wasn't going to let a morsel go to waste, especially since it had that accompanying lemon/butter/caper sauce. If you feel like you should eat salad, as I occasionally do, the Aphrodite is a nice combination of greens, figs, walnuts, golden raisins, and honey with a couple spears of asparagus and a Greek cheese laid on top. The name of the cheese is long and escapes me, but it's a lot like halloumi in that it's delicious and you better eat it quickly, as it gets tough after a couple minutes. A solid meal, if a bit pricey. It doesn't help that merely decent cocktails start at $16 here (the price of the finest cocktails in Manhattan, the priciest of places). I suppose I was taken aback by this because it was our first meal in South Beach, and I didn't realize everything around here is dumb expensive (and that everyone adds gratuity on you).
