A distance from Montpelier, located in the rural area surrounded by trees and mountains, Plainfield, VT boasts this exciting pizza find. Have to say, the offerings have matured immensely since my college days over 15 years ago and now boasts an eclectic beer menu that excites. The pizza has always been fabulous and there are other items to choose from if pizza doesn't ring your bells. Everyone's friendly, everything's affordable, and what's more: you feel good being there. Great spot for a pizza bite!

This was my first time at this location and it was just as delicious as the others I've been to! It was take-out only because of Covid. The order took about 20 minutes from when I called to when I picked it up. I love the way they make their pizzas- perfectly crispy crust, just the right amount of sauce and cheese. Yum! The bean burger was a very generous size and we got a gluten free bun for an extra charge. The beet salad was refreshing to go along with the pizza. I'll be back again soon for sure!

It has been a while since I wrote my last review of Positive Pie so it is time to update it. This is one of our top three pizza and beer places in Vermont. When you enter the door, the inside looks just like an old Wild West saloon. It's very rustic with a squeaky wooden floor, a long bar and about 12 tables. They always have around 20 beers on tap and a good selection of bottled beer if none of the draught beers are what you like. The pizza here is thin crust and quite good. They bring it out and put it up on a stand on your table so you have more room. Service is always excellent here. Parking is on the street and there is never a problem finding a space.

Recommended by a local. I didn't have high hope but the food was exceeding my expectations. We ordered cabeet salad and bruschetta pizza.

Anyways, came back from Jay tonight and needed dinner and even though I stopped at the gas station/mart down the road and grabbed a sandwich I still felt I needed dinner (saving the sandwich for tomorrow.) Popped in and knew this was the right decision. Missed the special menu but the pesto flatbread sounded good. I went with the pot roast dinner which was phenomenal. Fell apart with a fork, vegetables were cooked spot on, and think they were deep fried mashed potatoes? That or panko covered. Ether way they were like cheese balls that were yummy. Service was excellent. The cashier had the best cheerful smile and attitude. She also served and bused the tables so she was always asking everyone one everything was. Place is inviting, I can only imagine what the vibe is in the morning when they serve breakfast. Probably will pop in when I head out of town to fuel up for the ride home. This place is definitely worth the stop not only because of what I wrote but because it's a local business and you should avoid the quick fast meal spots.

The tomato soup is excellent. The cheddar ale soup is unforgettable. I would gladly drive hours to have that ale soup again. I can't remember the soup of the day, but I'm sure it was good. The only complaint is the size of the three samples. Too small. I needed more of the ale soup. My daughter had the apple, fig, and brie sandwich (minus the arugula). I had a burger. The food was very very good. We opted for maple syrup (hey, it's VT) and it was the perfect foil to the more savory foods we were eating. Lots of booze options as well. You might inhale when you see the prices for "grilled cheese" but trust me, these are not your run of the mill toasty cheesy sandwiches. Our server, Amy, was fantastic. We loved talking with her and she made sure we had everything we need and had a great experience at the restaurant. Two thumbs way up.

Diane, John, and their crew of dedicated employees, opened this restaurant in the summer of 2020, in the middle of an international pandemic, and still managed to rise to the top as a fantastic, family-oriented, slow food restaurant in a small town with several well established restaurants as its base. Their idea was grounded in the "simple" grilled cheese sandwich, reimagined in some delightfully tasty presentations. The menu is modest and, other than seasonal specials, is steadfast in its design! I have eaten there more times than I can count and have YET to experience any deviation from the quality they presented at the outset! How many restaurants can attest to that, alone? The atmosphere is homey (it is a former home in a lovely neighborhood), the service is top-notch and the food is delicious. The management attends to every table at least once during your stay (so there was ample opportunity for this customer to express any concerns to the person in the best position to correct any issues), and the staff consists of community members who are our friends, neighbors, or children thereof. So special is this space, the youth servers appear every spring in their prom-best to have their pictures taken with Diane and John! How special is that???!!!! This is a team that places community at the center of their work: even facilitating massive community fundraising efforts post-flood, 2024 and 2025! If you live in this area, you already know what a gem this place is. If you are visiting, put a night out (or lunch) on your "must do" list while exploring Barre's rich granite industry history. If you haven't made Barre a stop on your journey, run, don't walk and see what the buzz is all about! See you at The Meltdown!

I love that they're socially conscious and really care about social justice and the environment. - They compost.* My pup discovered this after we emerged from a trail next to the back of the bakery. She found all this very scientifically interesting. - They serve in house with reusable metal utensils and plates, which you return to the counter. - They're committed to sourcing organic, sustainably produced flour from a few family-run farms. - Takeout containers (and I feel awful when having to use these at times) are waxed cardboard -- maybe professionally compostable or recyclable, but I suspect not. Still, better than plastic. Eat in if you can. Someday I'll remember to bring my own containers and see if they'll use them. The bread is world class. We've probably tried almost every loaf at this point. They tend towards being traditional styles with robust crusts and a good, slow, cold rise -- breads that take time to make. Our preferences lean towards the sourdoughs, the miche-type loaves, anything with olives, and the potato breads (for those of us with old teeth or missing baby teeth). But everything you could possibly order will be amazing. We loved the beautiful pain d'epi most recently, though the 10 year old (who doesn't have a full set of chompers right now) found it tough to consume without a good dip in Mom's stew at the end of the day. The only version my family cited as more beloved was from Maison Kayser -- yes, a chain, but a very good one where my kiddos literally cut their teeth. Pastries are shockingly good as well, particularly the laminated ones that someone must be getting up at 2 or 3 a.m. to prepare. Chocolate croissants and almond croissants are perfectly layered, generously filled with high quality chocolate (real chocolate, not Nutella!) or almond paste filling that is even good when cold. The "simplest" of pastries (not really at all simple for anyone's whose tried to make these), a plain croissant, will wow a purist. My kiddos love the perfectly frosted maple bun visit after visit. Savory pastries are often filled with beautifully caramelized / browned onions, cheese, and other ingredients depending on the whims of the chefs. Again, I don't think you can go wrong; we certainly never have. There are decent sandwiches and salads on the menu (from the perspective of the spoiled). Nothing is groundbreaking, but they're 200% competent and ingredients are consistently excellent. A recent Harvest Salad, for instance, included fresh and tender butter lettuce, winter squash roasted to tender perfection, nuts and dried fruit in perfect balance. We'd had about 10 different "harvest salads", in the past few weeks in VT at that point, but though this one was more simply designed than many, it was more delicious, given the impeccably fresh, high quality ingredients. We sometimes get here on the earlier side, but never seem able to score a breakfast sandwich, which seems to sell out fast. We like the down-to-earth staff, who smile when they mean it and don't when they don't -- and show fatigue when they need to and ought. I love that the management appears to be humane, opening later than usual when an ice storm makes driving conditions perilous. We recognize some staff members from some years past and we like the continuity a lot. Love the entire picture. All of it. * I just read that all VT households and businesses are required to compost per a state law passed in 2020. Cool! Red Hen seems to have a great sorting system set up, though, with many neat, well maintained bins lined up out back.

It's always been busy when I've gone, but wait times aren't very long and the staff is pleasant. Needless to say, I got home and inhaled my turkey on a baguette. The only thing I think is a little bit of a bummer is the lack of more "traditional" topping options. I like my sandwiches with lettuce, tomato, and onion. The cafe does not offer tomatoes and only has pickled onions. Would be nice to have a little more choice when building your own sandwich. That said, I'm still a big fan and would get food from there again in a heartbeat.
