The subs themselves are pretty good, the interior is clean, and they have a nice outdoor patio. The service is what's lacking. I purchased two subs, two drinks, and a cookie. The subs and drinks were good per usual, but the cookie was almost completely raw inside. It was wet and falling apart. I took it back inside and they offered a replacement. I opened up the second cookie and it was also raw. A little less raw (more baked), but still wet and raw inside. I initially wanted to ask for a refund, but the worker informed me "that's just how they are now". Not sure what store would willingly sell raw cookies, but that's not normal. I was in Ashburn with my boss for work. After visiting a customer we left and pulled into this plaza that hosts a few eateries and a Starbucks. I was instructed to fetch some coffee while he was on a conference call. Yes I was the lackey, note he signs the paychecks. I head on into Starbucks and get a few coffees and head back to the truck. After a few minutes of listening to this incredibly boring conference call, he mutes the line and tells me to get out and get lunch. I looked around and noticed a Potbelly, and a couple others. I ask if he is coming or wants me to bring him something. He declines as "eating makes me tired". Dining alone it is. I quickly checked online to see what they offered and decided that it could be a good stop for lunch. I knew I'd get a salad since I eat a salad for lunch almost every day of my life and I liked that they posted that their grilled chicken is all natural, hormone and anti-biotic free. I went with a Mediterranean salad that had feta cheese, artichokes, roasted red peppers, cucumbers, diced red onion, hummus and Italian seasoning on a bed of romaine, iceberg and spinach. I picked the no-fat vinaigrette to go with my salad, but ended up using none of it since, one it didn't taste good, and two with all the other toppings it wasn't needed. I have never eaten at a Potbelly's and was pleasantly surprised I could get natural and nutritional food without spending a ton of money, not to mention my meal came to around 400 calories, not bad for fast food. Also, I believe it was less than $10.00 including a bottle of water. The salad tasted pretty good. Not great but definitely good for an eatery such as this. I got the turkey club sandwich and it was tasty - there wasn't that much meat inside the sandwich though; it was a little skimpy on both the turkey and the bacon. There was a lot of lettuce and mayo in my sandwich and the whole thing was toasted and hot, which was nice, but in general, much less meat than other sandwich places. If you download the Potbelly app, you can pay through there, and you can also get rewards. If you get the app for the first time, you can get a free cookie. I got the sugar cookie which was pretty good but very buttery/oily, and a tad bit sweet. It was huge, and definitely could be shared between two people. The service here was just okay - the guy taking the initial order was nice, the person doing the condiments seemed like she was having a bad day and scowled at me when I asked for avocado to be added to my sandwich, and the cashier was friendly and helpful when I was fumbling with the app. Overall, if you want a quick bite to eat, this Potbelly will be fine but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here or expect a gourmet sandwich. read more

We were excited check out Potbelly yesterday to redeem the bogo deal with their new application. We came in around 8:40pm to grab a togo order. Immediately as we walked in, one of the guys there made a huge fuss about having to stay longer because he wanted to leave. He had a poor attitude throughout the whole process. We understood he wanted to get out but the store didn't close until 9:00pm. He made comments like "I am going to quit today", "I have to wake up at 4:00am tomorrow and need to get the f**k out of here". As we were getting rung up, he said "F**k, this is going to be a long night. Oh, did I say that out loud?". This made my wife very uncomfortable and frustrated me. Some advice to the gentlemen that was in such a poor mood, if you are going to complain about having to actually work until the place closes, I suggest you find another line of work. The chicken salad was pretty decent, and their vinaigrette was pretty light, served in a little container on the side. My fellow EMT got a sandwich and shared her chocolate chip cookie with me. I don't know what they do with their cookies, but it's perfect for me. I never understood people who liked crunchy cookies. I like mine a little crisped, but with gooey chocolate chips and just soft enough that you can bend it with little force, but not too soft to the point where it droops as you're holding it. I know - it's a lot to ask for from a fast food joint, but magically Potbelly pulls it off. Every single time. Yum. Potbelly is a little casual soup, salad and sandwich spot where you order at a counter and pay. They also have smoothies, milkshakes, cookies and ice cream cookie sandwiches. Okay, so I visited here on our spirit night for our school. I wish I had great things to say, but I just don't. I got there early because I know that it gets crowded on spirit nights. So here are my frustrations. Frustration #1: There really isn't a children's menu. Yes, they can make a peanut butter or grilled cheese (not listed on menu) or they can order off the skinny menu. So I ended up paying $7-$8 for my kids to eat a sandwich, chips and drink...which I feel is more expensive than most places for my kids (ages 5 and 6) to eat. Frustration #2: So ingredients aren't listed on the menu for salads. I ordered the Wreck Salad which I swear I ordered before at another location, but when I opened my salad there was egg in it. I don't eat eggs...ugh...so I decide I will take it home and my husband can eat it. So then I go to try to order another salad and the kid they have taking orders doesn't know what is in each of the salads. What employee doesn't know their menu? Especially one taking orders??? I am frustrated at this point and I sit back down. I finally go back up to get milkshakes for the kids and decide to try to order a salad as the manager is now taking orders next to the high school aged kid taking orders. I ask him what is in one of the salads. He lists everything really fast. I decide to order it and either he didn't say it had cheese in it or I didn't hear it and I end. Frustration #3: Manager was very snippy. Between acting like I was crazy to want to know what was in the salad I was ordering. To getting mad when I asked if it had certain ingredients in it...Plus getting snippy with telling me I needed to order milkshakes at the beginning of the line verses the end (which was opposite from what I did at the other location). It was just not the way I want to be spoken to or treated as a customer. Maybe the manager was stressed because it was a spirt night, but it really wasn't that busy yet and I guarantee that the lunch crowd is much busier there. My kids were wild, hitting each other with the balloons that were on the ground for our spirit night while I had to go order another salad and ended up playing with the trash can. GROSS. At this point I have to take my kids home if they wanted to make it home without me losing my lid in the middle of the restaurant. Needless to stay I left at this point hungry without eating and frustrated as I stood in that line again to order a second salad which I didn't get to eat. I have only been to one other Potbelly location which I really liked. Menu ingredients and kids menu were listed at that one, but then again it has been a few years since I have been to a Potbelly so not sure if things have changed corporately or if it is just a franchise issue where they don't list menu ingredients or kids food items. I must say I was pleased! Only 4 years into marriage and I forget that just because my husband doesn't like something doesn't mean I won't like it! I'd say Potbelly is comparable to Jimmy John's or Firehouse. They are warm subs and my turkey BLT tasted great. I used the app once before and it was glitchy, luckily this time I was able to order flawlessly, and even had an option for extra lettuce and onions on my flats sammich. Went to Potbelly Ashburn to meet with a friend for lunch. Ordered my usual Turkey and Cheese. Small issue with sandwich but no big deal, problem may have been ME (gasp). Sandwich was great! Had ongoing problems with their app but this one went through fine. Figured out they had WiFi there at the store, too. :-) So, they sent me a random evaluation email that I responded to. Most of the time I get these evaluations from other companies nothing e v e r happens or changes. This time was different. A member of management actually called me to clarify the issue and offered to resolve. I'm impressed. Potbelly is my favorite sandwich shop anyway & I always hit it at gate B44 and D14 at Dulles when flying in and out. Good value for your money. Potbelly doesn't exist on the West Coast. I had never heard of this cute sandwich chain before moving out to East Coast. The first time I was a little confused how to order and didn't get the question when they asked me if I wanted a "big"...it was all so new! Its not like Subway where you watch them the entire time making your sandwich. You order from the first person, then scoot down the impossibly high counter that I can barely see over, then the next person adds the toppings. Then the second time I made a rookie move and came in with an order for 6 coworkers. I just walked up to the counter and got major stink eye from the counter lady when I said I had six sandwiches. I've learned my lesson (call in any orders for multiple sandwiches) and understand that the "big" sandwich is slightly larger than the regular sandwiches. I wouldn't recommend ordering online. I tried that once and after spending 15 minutes for everyone's sandwiches in the office, I got the dreaded "Failed." I called in the order. Well, as it turned out, my online order did go through, and they started doubling the order before figuring it out. Now that I understand the process a little better, I have fallen in love with the veggie sandwich on multigrain bread with all the toppings. Although I always ask for extra hot peppers, that hardly ever happens. I get a few, but not nearly enough for my love of the hotness. Potbelly is A-OK. The food is pretty good and the prices are reasonable. The servers are cheerful. They're not the quickest or most efficient. For example, it's a little frustrating when someone 4 places in line behind you orders a chocolate milkshake and you hear a series of shouts down the line, "CHOCOLATE MILKSHAKE! CHOCOLATE MILKSHAKE! CHOCOLATE MILKSHAKE!" Suddenly, the cashier turns away and starts making a chocolate milkshake for the person 4 places in line behind us instead of checking us out. I ordered the chickpea veggie salad which was good but really nothing that I would crave and say "We have to go to Potbelly!".
