I'm glad that I waited a while before posting my review. Had I posted it just after the visit that my 94 year old mother had with Dr. Mathur, it would have been FIVE STARS! Dr. Mathur was very kind. He listened to my mother's issues, did a thorough examination and recommend an in office X-ray and a MRI. This visit was on 2/17. In that visit he said that he would reach out with the MRI results. The MRI was done on 2/18 and the results were available via the Advanced Radiology website on 2/20. I expected to hear from the doctor no later than Monday. I sent a portal message on 2/19 to make sure the doctor's office contacted me directly. When I didn't hear back, I called the office on 2/25, and I was told there was no portal message (even though I was looking at it). I was informed that it may have gone to the incorrect department. Why a practice wouldn't forward my message to the correct department I cannot say... I guess it "wasn't their job". We all know that excuse provided regularly by the younger generation. I was told on that phone call, that the doctor would call. It is now 2/27 and still no call. So, I went into the portal again to send another message and noticed that I could see the chart note. I saw at the end of the note "follow up in 1 week for MRI results". First of all, the doctor said he would call. Second, when I was on the phone with the office on 2/25, why didn't she tell me that I needed to schedule an appointment? I work for a group of Rheumatologists and we would never simply ignore a patient, nor would we ask them to come back for results. I can read the results on the Radiology report. What I would expect is a phone call with a treatment plan and then schedule the appointment to begin treatment. I am going to move forward with a different orthopedic practice. Before I experienced the above, based on my initial experience, I recommended Dr. Mathur to an elderly work associate with a severe back issue. She got the run around as well, so clearly, this is the standard of patient care that Potomac Valley Orthopedic feels is acceptable. read more

I called to make an appointment but after speaking with Ashley (the person making the appt) I totally changed my mind. She was rude and lacked knowledge. After speaking with her I changed my mind. If the company has someone ignorant working for them then that says alot. I see other negative reviews about staff so I guess its acceptable to the company. read more

if you're in severe pain and been a part of Potomac Valley orthopedic since the 80s do not expect any relief. They talk about a surgery not the moment that you're in at the time. Don't expect any pain meds. They haven't caught up with the new DEA laws. read more

I have to say that we have used PVO for years. The care from all of the doctors has been excellent. Dr Kang and Dr Mathur are outstanding surgeons. The office staff however is another animal altogether. My husband was in STD when Dr Tang did his surgery in early March. I was charged a reasonable fee of $25 for the paperwork and it was done swiftly. Now that my husband's second surgery is about to take place in two days I was told the fee is $50 for the amount of paperwork. (same amount as last time). The office person? Irma Stevenson has been so incredibly rude that we are considering finding another practice. Really heartbreaking to find great providers, and substandard office people. read more

Review of Ellicott City PT location. Great experience with therapy, however, was offered a service of dry needling which is often not covered by insurances. So the therapist asked the front desk clerk to call to find out my coverage for me before rendering services. I was told try the clerk that it was covered 80% after my deductible (which had already been met). Turns out, the front desk person did not understand what my insurance told her and provided me with INCORRECT AND FALSE information, nor did she ever note in my file that she had contacted my insurance before the dry needling was rendered. After repeated attempts to have my insurance cover it and many unanswered emails to PVOC to ask them to waive the fees, in a call to the billing department, I was told that because I signed a financial agreement when I started PT (which I had signed for REGULAR PT services when I first started and NOT specifically for the dry needling), that the charges cannot be disputed with PVOC. So, I am left to pay 100% of the charges (including a charge from 9/11/2023 that I just received the online notification for today - 4/12/24) due to an error by their administration who apparently can make up and tell you anything that she wants and not document it, as long as you signed that initial agreement..... I should have read reviews before taking my 6 year old, but this is one of three pediatric orthopedic specialists on my pediatrician's recommended list. I called them, confirmed they took my insurance and were in network, and they were able to schedule an appointment within a couple of days. I took my son out of school for the appointment and drove to Silver Spring. I needn't have bothered taking him out of school because despite the waiting room being mostly empty, we waited over an hour for our appointment and weren't seen until after 5pm. I took our own X-rays for the dr to review on a disc. We need up with about 15 minutes with the orthopedic specialist, who looked at the disc I gave him and said, "yep, it's broken." He said nothing was necessary but to rest and protect the finger for two weeks. We had already put my son's finger in a splint/protector, and I had taken it off at the appointment. The doctor - Dr. O'Brien - looked at the splint I already had and said he had a smaller, child-sized one. He put this slightly mailer one on my son's finger and showed me how to wrap the tape not too tightly. So, I thought it was just a disappointing wait and a bit of a waste of time to continue doing what we were, but told myself it was worth having a specialist look at the X-rays since there are growth plates, etc. and best to be sure nothing was wrong. Well.... A month later we start getting bills! I had already paid my $50 specialist copay at the appointment and made sure they were in network. After speaking with our insurance provider it turns out our office visit was completely covered after our copay, but this office billed us for two items, the office visit and a "closed surgical item." Basically, taping the finger protector onto my 6 year old's finger is being claimed as a surgical intervention resulting in a $600+ bill. We are trying to contest this now. It seems to be in line with the other reports of spurious billing/fraud mentioned in other reviews. read more

I spend more time on the physical therapy side than on the side with the orthopedic doctors, and more of my time at the Germantown location than any other location. IMO, some of the best PTs in the county! Patient, kind, and willing to try different modalities! So much better than a PT office that is almost directly across from the Germantown library! It is clear that the staff cares about its clients--patients! Even when your execution of an exercise is corrected, it is done in a nice way. Thanks for your patience and flexibility. read more

I should have known from the time I called to schedule an appointment, that my experience at this office would be unpleasant. I accompanied my grandfather as a translator. The receptionist scheduling my appointment was curt. He asked me one word questions and promptly ended the phone call. Might I add that he failed to schedule the appointment with the doctor that I had requested, which my grandfather had a referral for. Since my grandfather was a first time patient, he (the receptionist) requested that we come 20 minutes before our appointment to fill out paperwork. We came 30 minutes before and filled out the paperwork, which only took 5 minutes. (Side note: there is no sign in sheet, so no "first come, first serve" basis.) Then we waited and waited and waited. Soon it was 30 minutes past my grandfather's original appointment time and patients who came in later than us were called into their appointments. I don't even understand why they even bother scheduling appointments. We were eventually called in after I questioned the receptionist about my grandfather's appointment. The appointment was mediocre, the doctor seemed like he wanted to end the appointment quickly. I don't want to base my judgement of this business and the employees on a one time experience; who knows, they could have been short-staffed that day. However, I will be taking my business elsewhere; where 10:00 actually means 10:00 or at least the staff is trying to be friendly to compensate. read more

Dr. Murphy had been treating me for a left Great toe fracture since November 2018. In December Dr. Murphy completed surgery to insert pins into my toe. I just wanted to share that during these past 7 weeks since surgery Dr. Murphy has taken great care of me and it was wonderful to get to know him more over the many follow up visits I had. It was surreal yesterday when I had to say goodbye to him. I was able to visit all the office locations and have to say that all the staff were wonderful and caring. I have been very happy with the care I have received from my orthopedic physician Dr. Tang and the office staff. I had a total knee replacement done and the follow up PT sessions (vitally important) and follow up appts. went extremely well. I had originally gone to another well known orthopedic practice recommended by friends but had complications after viscous supplementation shots. I could not get passed their receptionists after explaining the extreme pain I was having. Luckily after that horrible episode I went to Dr.Tang who took the time to explain the results of X-rays and MRI. Their office even has a sign posted at the desk saying that if you have been fitted in for an emergency there may be a wait around regular scheduled appointments. People need to understand emergencies happen all the time.They at least will try to fit you in to be seen and not blow you off! My experience with my physician and the staff has been great, along with the care I had with physical therapy dept.right next door. It was convenient to where I live, appts. are easy to obtain, visits have been thorough and it is a busy practice so waiting is no different than other offices I have been to. Be prepared to wait! Read all reviews, especially on google. Took me 90 minutes to see my doctor. Ridiculous. They tell you to come in 15 minutes early too. What a joke. This place is just too big and too busy. Not recommended for this reason. Reading all the reviews, this is a chronic problem. Do your research and go elsewhere. I went because my doctor recommended. I waited 1.5 hours to see the doctor, who only gave a cursory look at my broken toe. The doctor blamed his staff for the wait and the staff blamed the doctor for "being behind" on appointments. Seeing the other reviews now, I wish I had looked at Yelp before making an appointment with this practice. We'll see what kind of bill I get for the terrible service I received here. I called this place asking specifically if they do trigger point injections, as I need them for a chronic neck issue as pain relief. Was told yes we do and made a appointment for trigger point injections. Waiting 3 days in pain for this appointment, arrived early per their request and proceeded to sit for 50 minutes past my appointment time in a horribly uncomfortable chair which did not help any. I finally get in to see a Dr who proceeds to do 2 minutes worth of turn your head, grab my fingers etc etc and then he grabs my chin roughly and turns my head back and forth causing me more pain and the says to me " We do not do trigger point injections here. I can refer you to someone who does and they should be able to see you in a few weeks" YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. I fully plan to dispute any bill they would have the nerve to send to my insurance company for flat out lying to me when I made appointment and doing absolutely nothing besides hurting me more and sending me on my way in horrific pain. I recently had a knee injury that caused complete agony. I made an appointment very easily and was able to see Dr. Tang within a couple days. Upon arrival, the office was friendly, clean and convenient. Not only was Dr. Tang extremely patient with me, he was also able to fully explain my problem and address all of my concerns. I had a THR done through PVO, to make a long story short, I had to have two other revisions in the same leg based on my first surgery, then lost too much blood during the first surgery, THEN was given the wrong blood during my transfusion which caused me to break out in hives! I was a left with constant pain in my hip and back, and all my surgeon through PVO could say is, " I don't know what went wrong!" I haven't been able to work, I am only in my 30's, and I feel like my life is over. I was working, driving, going to the gym 3 days a week, and happily taking care of two beautiful boys just 24 hours before I made the worst mistake of my life! read more

Dr. Tang has been an awesome doctor. He is very knowledgeable, easygoing, kind and attentive. The first time I saw him was for a second opinion on an ankle issue I was having. The first doctor recommended surgery to repair some ligament damage and to fix any other issues he might find while inside. After the recommendation I thought it would be best to seek a second opinion instead of going right under the knife. After some research I found Dr. Tang and scheduled an appointment with him. It was a very pleasant experience. The receptionist, X-Ray tech and Dr. Tang were great. Not going into too much detail, Dr. Tang ultimately saved me from going under the knife and my ankle has been fine for some time now. Ever since that first experience with Dr. Tangs practice, they are my first choice for anything that comes up. I have been back for issues with my wrists and shoulder. All of my other visits have been just as, if not more pleasurable then the first. I highly recommend Dr. Tang to anyone in need of help. read more

I have been going to PVO for several years now. This was my first visit for pain in my left hand. They took x rays and determined it was arthritis. He said maybe you can make a splint out of popsicle sticks and tape. Then he said that will make it more stiff, maybe you should not do that. Just take anti inflammatory drugs. He said, well "it's just the one figure". When I told him that I am a guitar player he made dismissive comment. If I go back, I will ask for another Doctor. read more

My experience with this practice was dreadful. My son and I waited over an hour and 45 minutes to be seen by the doctor for a follow up appointment. The appointment lasted all of four minutes. The billing practices of this office are deceptive and the charges to the patient are not explained. In addition, the office collected copays that they were not entitled to. We were asked to schedule a follow appointment only to find out after we arrived the doctor had decided it was not necessary at the end of our last appointment; he neglected to let his staff or us know until we arrived and paid the co-pay. We were never refunded for the co-pay, and I'm sure our insurance was billed despite the medical practice's lack of coordination. When we arrived for our final appointment we waited for over an hour after our appointment time, despite arriving early. The receptionist's response was that they had three doctors and all were running behind. Everyone in this practice is rude, from the desk staff to Dr. Gelb. I've been a handful of times for the same knee issue I've been dealing with for 2 months, and repeatedly told to go get more and more tests. Today was the last straw. Dr. Gelb is incredibly rude, contradicts what he says every time I see him, rushes through my visit (even though I regularly wait 30 mins past my appointment time for him), left the door open when he stormed out as I was changing back into my clothes, and is just not comforting or respectful at all. He interrupted me every time I opened my mouth to speak, and told me that what I'm feeling in my knee is all in my head, even though the MRI clearly says otherwise. I stopped at the front desk on my way out to fill out a form for my entire medical record, because I will be visiting another practice. They seem more interested in running up your bill and making you wait than actually helping. read more

Dr. Gelb examined me thoroughly, asked pertinent questions and willingly spent enough time with me to answer mine. His diagnosis made sense to me and the course of action he recommended was scaled to several levels if improvement was not forthcoming - a useful, economical and appropriate approach. I would use this practice with caution. Went in with broken bone in foot. Was given a 2 minute exam by physician and had x-rays, and prescribed a post op shoe. In addition to charges for x-rays and shoe was billed $700 for "fracture treatment" plus $230 for "outpatient visit." There was absolutely no treatment and I will be as polite as possible to say this was billed "in error." Would not recommend this practice unless you have solid gold insurance and don't care how accurate are their billing practices. read more

They give you items and fail to get the pre authorization and then blame you for it when the insurance says it's an unnecessary item. Then they send you immediately to collections. Also if Dr. Cook would look more like a Dr. And less like a pimp and know about immunotherapy treatment a person would not be in pain for six months unnecessary due to a fracture. The practice is unethical and is a workman's compensation chop shop and then gets the person denied when on the operating table. read more

I called mid-morning for an appointment for my daughter who broke her arm the day before. We were worked into the schedule and told to come at 2:30pm. Filled out paperwork from their website and brought it with us. Waited about 30 minutes in the waiting room before going back. Just a few minutes more before Dr. Gelb came in. Friendly, knowledgeable, interested in talking to my daughter. Quick exam of her arm, reviewed films from the urgent care center, had new x-rays taken quickly, came back with the confirmation of the diagnosis, had her fitted for a brace and we were on our way. My dad went in for an appointment today to get his stitches removed. His went in at 10:20am for his 10:30am appointment. He signed in and waited in the waiting room for 40 minutes. He was then escorted to the room being told, "The doctor will see you soon". He waited another 30 minutes and said, "Fuck it". Guess we're going to be taking them out at home now. I would not given any stars if that was the option. The wait time is horrendous, I was actually early for my appointment. I sat for an hour before x-rays were taken by a non-sympathetic technician. Then Dr. Tang appeared in the room 1 hour and 15 minutes (after my appt time) and spoke to me for 5 minutes after he performed a weak exam and sent me on my way. The wait times are what you would expect for any doctors office. When making appointments the Secretary can come off somewhat annoyed, as though you are a bother to her, BUT the office staff at the front are always very pleasant and helpful. The doctors here are great in their specialties and I have have 4 different surgeries from multiple doctors here. So if you can handle sitting and waiting for a few extra minutes it will be worth it. read more

I went there for a knee injury and was given a brace. I was told that they don't charge up front and that they will run it through insurance. To my amazement, I get a bill for $92 and I researched the average price for the bill. The bill I received was way overpriced. I called billing and spoke to Bernadette who told me that she has had other calls regarding my same situation, and that she would not adjust the billing and that the doctors usually don't allow for it. I told her then the price of the brace should have been given to me upfront, so I had a choice to go with them or go elsewhere for a knee brace. She told me that she would send an email to Dr. Mess (how appropriate is his last name for their unethical practices) and I never heard back from her or Bernadette. She lied and said that secretary said that she won't adjust the price of the brace. I said her why I never recieved a phone call from the secretary and she couldn't give me a straight answer. I paid to keep my bill from being sent to collections. My advice. Run far away from this place. read more
