This park has it all! To start, it's situated in a less than ideal spot, between a road and a train track. However, they made it more than an appeal. My kids loved watching trains go by, and it is fully fenced in, so you can relax and kids can get any kind of locomotive show. They also made a bike/running trail along side the park. There is plenty of seating and places for families to relax or do a picnic lunch. The playground itself is also amazing! There is a toddler and big kid side. Every type of play equipment you can imagine. I was especially impressed by the maze on the toddler side. I am also not a parent of a child with disabilities, but I recognized some equipment for disabilities. This park really has it all. read more

This is a nice little park that is located across from a small residential area near the Potomac Yard Rail Station. It has a lot of green space available that is suitable for picnic, playing catch, or tossing a frisbee. Dogs are welcome, but must remain on a leash and must be cleaned up after. There is limited metered street parking available in front of the park and you will find a very nice paved walkway that runs along the front and back sides of the park. You will find a like of joggers and bicyclist using this trail. This park has two completely fenced in play areas. One is a little bigger than the other, but they have pretty much the same equipment. They both have a see-saw, walking beams, sit and spins, a bank of traditional/toddler swings, hammock rockers, and large jungle gyms with slides, monkey bars, rings, and bridges. The smaller play area has a toddler maze and the larger area has a rock structure, and zip hangar. On the perimeter of both areas are benches where caregivers can sit and watch their littles while they play. The park is very well maintained and the equipment looks pretty new and is in great shape. In between the two play ares you will find the highlight of the park, an interactive fountain that features thirty-six water jets. I visited the park on the hot day and the fountain was packed. Pets are not allowed in the fountain as well as the two playground areas. This is a nice linear park, that as i have mentioned, is well maintained. There is tons of seating all over the park. The park does not have much to offer as shade goes, but that should not stop you from visiting. I also did not see any restroom facility either. This was the coolest park i have ever seen for toddlers. There is no reason to pay huge prices for activity centers when this park has it all and it's all safe for Littles. I love that there's this much fun outside during respiratory season when we are avoiding being indoors with a bunch of kiddos. The ground is super soft and plus for not being sand or wood/plastic chips. My son could have hung out here all day. The only thing that could have improved the experience would have been if there were shaded areas to sit. We will be back for sure! read more

Potomac Yard Park is a 2013 narrow park near the Potomac Yard development. Because of the construction, parking can be a little hard to find so go early. The park itself has a splash area with benches and two large long playgrounds for kids of all ages. Both play areas are fenced in giving more peace to parents and caregivers. There's a trail near the playground popular with walkers, joggers and runners. Along the paved trail are stairs to a hidden dirt trail through the woods. read more

Located behind the Target in Potomac Yard, Potomac Yard Park is geared towards the walking (or bigger) crowd, but, even with a 7 month old, we had a good time here, although my son did not last too long due to crankiness. There are two large fenced in areas with the same equipment on both sides. Separating these areas is a spray park. All of the turf is artificial so no worries about getting muddy after a rainfall. The most unique aspect, and the piece of equipment we used the longest, was the attached baby/adult swing. I put my son in the baby swing and pushed myself on the adult swing, which then propelled his swing. I have never seen this anywhere before-what a cool concept! They also have a seesaw we used for a bit. They also have two smaller slides we went down a few times. The row of hammocks is also unique, but not that comfortable to sit on as they are rubber instead of just sinking in like when they are made of rope. There are picnic tables, but I did not notice any bathrooms in the area which is problematic. Parking is on the street so I imagine it can get tricky. I will return with my son more often as he gets a little bigger to enjoy more of the equipment! read more

We come to this park periodically when we're in the area and the kids love it, especially during the summer months when they have the water feature turned on. The things we like most about Potomac Yard Park are 1) the secure fencing around each section and 2) the fact that there are two sections according to age. The kids love to start by playing in the water feature and then dry off playing on the equipment. They also love watching the trains come by and the planes take off from DCA. There are picnic tables and plenty of benches as well. Definitely save this one in your bookmarks when you're in need of a new park to visit! It's a great place for kids to blow off steam before or after a flight out of Reagan airport so keep this one in your back pocket! :) read more

Wowwy wow wow wow, FAVORITE new park in the DMV! I can't believe I am just finding this. Splashpad, playground for littles, playground for bigs, hammocks, seesaws, mazes, swing sets, and more! Unlike some reviews, I did find there to be shade for the parents on the benches and under a few trees. There was also ample street parking on the main drag and most cars around were respectful and driving very slowly around the park. Everything was new and updated, with safe rubber ground and functioning water fountains. My kids were already talking about planning our next trip back! This park is amazing, 5 stars! read more

I think this park is cute, but unfortunately is more aesthetically pleasing to the eye than play-worthy for the kids. It is a very modern space with not as much going on as far as 'traditional' playground equipment goes. The location is ideal for the Potomac Yard residents. Kids love watching the train pass by in the distance while the parents/nannies/au pairs can hang on the steel post hammocks. I can't really describe the hammocks other than they are nice to lay on, and that I was happy they weren't being utilized. You could fall asleep on one of those things if it was cool enough outside. Water park they have is mediocre at best. There are way better water park options in the area at small playgrounds than this, but if it was this or nothing; at least this offers something. No shade with all pavement, no visible bathrooms and a non-working water fountain. Bring plenty of H2O for the kiddies and yourself. Plan accordingly before visiting. read more

I do not have a lot of free time but when I do, I like to spend some of that time in the park and enjoy the weather. I live very nearby and I enjoy walking and taking my kids to the playground. I love seating somewhere in the park and enjoy drinking my coffee with my kids and wife. I like the idea that after 10 lights will turn off where people should empty the park as it is night. Nice, big, toddler playground near the Target in Potomac Yards. We went there looking for the splash park, but the fountains were off. Hopefully it'll open up next week after memorial day. I like that everything was clean. No mud anywhere because this was a very artificial looking park, but it would have been nice to have had a big old tree for shade. My little one had a blast playing on the appropriately sized equipment. I'm sure we'll come back again to check out the fountains. read more

2 fenced-in areas with age appropriate equipment AND accessible equipment.. what is there to complain about? There is a nice splash area that is not too crazy, and the grounds are rubber. I love this park and so do my kids. I would suggest having maybe a fenced connection between to two play areas so if you have 2 kids of different ages, you don't have leave one fenced-in in another area. Drove by this park yesterday and immediately thought "WE ARE GOING THERE AFTER THE STORE!!".. and that's what we did. We parked in a near by neighborhood across the street. There are two gated, age appropriate play areas. Left side is for young kids about 2-5 yrs old and the right side is for the bigger kids about 5-12yrs old. In between the playground is a fountain/splash area. I wish this was gated too but it's not - it's ok, as long as you have an eye on your littles, you're good. The park was clean and had a bit of shade thanks to the trees. I will def take my kids back to the park!! read more

We have been going to this playground for the last 4 years as we live in close proximity. The playground has two separate areas (both gated) and my now 6yo has moved from the young toddler one (north) to the one for older kids part (south), and he still loves it. We haven't used splash park last season (it works only in the summer months) as it is not that large and kind of boring, and seems to be overrun by younger kids. Or maybe it is just our luck. :) What we dislike: - Having the two separate areas for different aged kids seems like a great idea, but in reality, it is hard if you have multiple kids different ages. When we go with friends, we chose different park where we all can stay together. - Both playgrounds ale long and skinny, which means there isn't one place the parent can be stay to be able to see the child. While this is not a huge deal when you have a 6 year old (still not perfect but doable), you find yourself constantly following any younger children around the playground. Again, not great with multiple kids. - No shade. It is like a frying pan during hot days. The structures provide some very limited shade for the kids but parents, as well as the kids who are playing on other equipment (swings, climbing wall, zip line, monkey bars) are fully exposed. - The water fountains work only half the time. - NO BATHROOMS! Port-a-potties are provided in the summer but good luck if your kid wants to go #2 on a sunny day in April!! read more

Don't bother bringing your kids after 6pm, you'll end up going home with Horse flies bites which are painful and another thing, there's lots of parents who show up and let their children run wild. The older kids get wet and slide down the larger slides and the younger children follow suit. It's extremely dangerous, I've seen boys going backwards and wet, they leave home with scrapes meanwhile their parents and caregivers are on their phones. Tips: Bring bug repellent! Sun hats for the little ones and yourselves. There are no bathroom. Expect lots of running children without water shoes, even though they are required. read more

Two gated playgrounds, one for under 5 and one for bigger kids. In between the playgrounds there is a little sprayground in the summer. The toddler playground has a long jungle gym which my daughter and her friends enjoyed crawling along even before they could run up and down. There are swings and a kid sized hammock. Also, there's a separate maze area kids can run around in. The train tracks pass by behind the playgrounds, so if you have a train lover, he or she will enjoy the trains passing by. I *guess* this is a splash park. It's not a very good one, though. The fountain is long and narrow, and the water goes off kind of randomly. It's hard to be patient enough to even get wet in this thing. I watched a few kids play in it while we got my son's swim diaper on, and they left in boredom. After about ten minutes, my wife picked up the kid and ran back and forth, trying to shove the boy into the water sprays, which last anywhere from 5-10 seconds. Very lame compared to the splash park in crystal city, just a five minute drive away. It would be much better if the water was always spraying here, instead of very infrequently. Instead of turning the fountain sprayers on for 5-10 seconds, md usually only having 1-2 on at a time, how about turning them off for 5-10 seconds and only ever having 1-2 turned off? Seriously, if you're going for the "interactive fountain", don't bother, it's terrible. read more
