Potterhill Homes is building two homes in my neighborhood. Their contractors are using our "Private" driveway and causing damage to the blacktop and grass. They also yell profanities when asked to move their vehicles. Potterhill has been unresponsive and we are now working with our local township in hopes of resolution. read more

I love my Potterhill Home! We built our home in 2002 on a vacant lot in an older neighborhood. The homes craftsman design fits right in with the older homes but inside is has all of the modern living we need. Pizza drivers and UPS people are always saying how much they love our home and they ask if we remodeled it ourselves- we tell them, No it's a new home built by Potterhill! They are always amazed at how good it looks inside and out. We will build another Potterhill Home when it's time to move. read more

We have lived in a Potterhill built home for ten years. Earlier this year we found out that there was no tyvek or foam board under the siding. In the first year we lived here, we found out that there was no flashing under the siding around the basement window and door. They repaired the drywall and it rained again before they fixed the outside. The plumbing is terrible, my shower drain is always backed up. Worst house I have ever lived in. read more

Please beware of this builder. The customer service is terrible and the contractors are terrible! I cannot believe all the issues we have had in a year and half home. We have lived in other older homes that did not have issues. As far as the layout of the house we love it and our neighbors are awesome. Just wish it was a better quality builder. Not only poor quality but the management is so rude and they don't care once they get your money!! read more

All that I am going to say is I am very disappointed with Potterhill Homes. Dishonest sales staff, poor quality build by bottom of the bucket contactors, and to top it all off a construction supervisor who possesses no attention to detail has led me to this conclusion. My wife and I entered into a contract with Potterhill Homes last fall to build a home on our own lot, a process we had never experienced. Our realtor recommended Potterhill as an experienced builder that would be helpful in guiding us through the process. From the start they communicated that securing a bid for a septic system would be something we would need to do on our own. Unfortunately, they did not ensure we secured the necessary steps prior to entering into a contract. The process was more complicated than expected. We completed all of the steps to move the planning of the home forward; purchased a lot, paid an additional $10,000 toward the home in addition to the first $1,000.00, completed the financing for the construction loan, completed the selection process, etc.. However, we discovered that the location initially considered during the contract phase of the home, and used to determine cost was not buildable because the home would be placed in the location of the acceptable soil for septic. The acceptable location determined would place the home significantly farther back on the lot causing additional cost of approximately $15,000.00 and placing the home in an undesirable location on the side of a hill (verified verbally in person by the builder contact). To mitigate this situation, we had to pursue additional soil testing (which we paid to conduct) causing delays. In addition, we learned that the estimate provided to us by the builder to budget for our initial contract was likely under-estimated by at least $10,000.00 (also verified verbally by the builder). This caused delays. At the end of January 2018, I was asked if we had a location. I replied that we still needed to gather additional information but that the soil testing had indicated that we would likely be able to move the initial plot forward slightly from where we had previously determined but that I needed to gather additional information to understand difference in budget from our initial agreement. It was at that time I was informed that we had exceeded the 90 day contract window and "if we wanted to continue to build" it would cost approximately $17,000.00 more than originally contracted and that the price would go up again if we did not begin within 60 days. My realtor then communicated that, given the unforeseeable increase, we no longer would like to pursue the build and requested steps for returning our deposit. It was at that time we were told that we would not receive any portion of our deposit back. They proceeded to cancel my construction loan with the bank, without my direct consent, and determined we were in breach of contract. While the contract does have a 90 day clause, no actual work had taken place on site (no clearing of land, no breaking of ground, no staking of lines, etc..). The contract does not indicate how much the cost could increase other than to state it is to reflect increases in construction costs. In addition, other sales materials and pre-construction agreements indicate that steps should not proceed until necessary septic permits and bids are in place prior to entering into the process. This is likely something I should have reviewed early, but also something an experienced builder may have honored to protect the buyer from this situation. When asking for a return of the deposit, the builder listed what they determined to be actual costs invested in the project despite not actually initiating the build on site in any capacity. These costs, by their estimates (which I believe to be high) were less than $5,000.00. The remaining money they stated they were entitled to keep as well. Given that the build did not begin in any capacity, and the rather arbitrary price increase required to continue, we believe that a large portion of the $11,000.00 should be returned. we just moved into the new northwind community in northside and really love the house. the price was right and the house was truly move in ready. the company had really good communication throughout the process. vicky was particularly helpful. the house has very, very few punch list items, which is a welcome surprise with a new house. they delivered a good quality house at a fair price. the area they chose to build was great for people who want to walk to stores and bars. read more

My sister is beside herself with this builder! She moved from her home to a temporary house owned by Potter Homes while her house is being built. The day of her move she arrived to a disaster of a rental. $1500 month. Had not been cleaned, broken screens, broken locks on Windows and doors, partial working electric, mice, dirty ceiling fans, cistern pump broke, the list goes on! She is considering cancelling her build!!! All they were concerned with was getting the deposit!! Deposit for what? Worse than it already is! Terrible customer relations. read more

Sales staff was knowledgeable and understanding of needs and actually had great input. Building process went slightly past deadline with minimal bumps in the road. Potter Hill was able to accommodate items where other builders were not at all flexible. Contractors worked with me as well. Very pleased with experience.
