Although Poughkeepsie has a decent variety of excellent restaurant options, there aren't a lot of upscale places to select from. We opted to book reservations for Brasserie 292 for a Saturday night. When we arrived, we were nearing the end of the dinner rush. We were sat right away, unfortunately it wasn't all too romantic being sat in the middle of the restaurant but understandably the restaurant is on the smaller side. The waiter was attentive, and addressed any of our questions about the menu, even hunting down the bottle of pinot noir we ordered. We opted to start off our night by splitting a half-dozen oysters which came with their in-house hot sauce, and an order of pouple, which was cooked to perfection. For our entrees we selected the red wine braised lamb shank and the dry aged prime NY steak. Since sides for both entrees were not mentioned on the menu, we also ordered sides - wild mushrooms, brussels sprouts and crispy smoked peewee potatoes. Overall the food was excellent and I'm still dreaming about the mushrooms. If we lived locally, would we go back, maybe but overall we had a great experience. Since this was an upscale restaurant, I opted to not photograph our meals and enjoyed being present in the moment.

Have only been to Brasserie 292 once; it's French so leans more toward seafood (which I'm allergic…read moreto) and kind of heavier dishes, which I can't really have anymore. But I'm giving 4 stars because what I DID have was really good! I don't see it on the online menu so it may have been a special -- but they did a mushroom/vegetable risotto, which was flavorful and the perfect size to not overwhelm. If I can find out whether this is part of the regular menu, I'll return just for that! Service was great -- we were going to an event at the convention center, and could walk from there. So if you're going to something at the convention center and want a nice meal (especially date night) ahead of time, I'd suggest checking this place out.

She did not want to give us a third table, however a gentleman who worked there told her to just give it to us... since it was half empty upstairs. She then followed to have an attitude and threw the drinks from the neighboring table on the floor to clear the table... I don't know if this is common there to throw half drank drinks on the turf, but it felt very rude and disrespectful. We felt unwelcome by the staff and ended up deciding to leave. We are very disappointed in this restaurant that our graduate from Marist University raved about and wanted to spend her graduation dinner at. Never again will we give this establishment our business. To make it worst, as we walked out she had the audacity to say "have a good night" in a snarky tone.

Compostable and microwavable takeout containers There is some street parking.
