Overall, we had a really nice meal here for our first visit on Saturday night. I made a reservation online a few days ahead for 6:30 pm. We arrived a few minutes late, waited a few minutes for the hostess and wee told it would be about 15-20 minutes for a table. The restaurant was packed, but I was a bit surprised at having to wait considering we had a reservation, and in my experience, even in a crowded restaurant, a reservation means your table is held for you. I don't blame them for not holding a table open when the entire restaurant was full, I'll just keep that in mind on our next visit and go on a less busy night or make an earlier reservation. Since the restaurant was packed, the noise level was pretty high and service was a little slow all night, but Diane did a great job and it gave us a chance to enjoy our appetizers and drinks before the food came. We got our appetizers around 7:30 followed by our food around 8 pm, so it was not a quick meal since we were there about 2 hours total, but the food was worth it. We started out with the pretzel bites and candied bacon appetizers, both good choices. I wish the pretzels had been a little hotter since they came out lukewarm, but they were tasty and the bacon app more than made up for it. For entrees, my husband ordered the NY strip, I ordered the boneless rib eye (the online menu has a bone-in version, but I didn't see it on the actual menu or specials), and my son picked the Jamison burger. The steaks and sides were good, though I'll never be excited about steamed vegetables, but my mash was well seasoned and creamy, and my son's burger was really flavorful and he loved it. My husband's steak was perfectly cooked but unfortunately my rib eye was closer to medium than mid-rare. They replaced it without issue and provided fresh sides along with my new steak. The replacement was cooked much better, but unfortunately, I was stuffed at that point and had to take most of it home. It tasted just as good the next day. Cocktails are pretty standard, and fairly priced, though we did have to snag a cocktail menu from another table. So overall, the food was pretty good and I'd come back again at a less crowded time. The manager and Diane were really apologetic about my overcooked steak, and they comped us dessert to go, and gave us 2 slices of chocolate cake, which was really appreciated. The cake was fudgy and rich and next time I'll have to save room for the churros. Considering it was our first time here, I'd say they really made sure we were happy with our meal and experience.

Not bad, big portions and the food was certainly passable but nothing that would make me go out of my way to go back. Service was excellent.

Although Poughkeepsie has a decent variety of excellent restaurant options, there aren't a lot of upscale places to select from. We opted to book reservations for Brasserie 292 for a Saturday night. When we arrived, we were nearing the end of the dinner rush. We were sat right away, unfortunately it wasn't all too romantic being sat in the middle of the restaurant but understandably the restaurant is on the smaller side. The waiter was attentive, and addressed any of our questions about the menu, even hunting down the bottle of pinot noir we ordered. We opted to start off our night by splitting a half-dozen oysters which came with their in-house hot sauce, and an order of pouple, which was cooked to perfection. For our entrees we selected the red wine braised lamb shank and the dry aged prime NY steak. Since sides for both entrees were not mentioned on the menu, we also ordered sides - wild mushrooms, brussels sprouts and crispy smoked peewee potatoes. Overall the food was excellent and I'm still dreaming about the mushrooms. If we lived locally, would we go back, maybe but overall we had a great experience. Since this was an upscale restaurant, I opted to not photograph our meals and enjoyed being present in the moment.

But I'm giving 4 stars because what I DID have was really good! I don't see it on the online menu so it may have been a special -- but they did a mushroom/vegetable risotto, which was flavorful and the perfect size to not overwhelm. If I can find out whether this is part of the regular menu, I'll return just for that! Service was great -- we were going to an event at the convention center, and could walk from there. So if you're going to something at the convention center and want a nice meal (especially date night) ahead of time, I'd suggest checking this place out.

Our friendly server Rob was extremely attentive and provided descriptions on the various entrees. I started with a light, delicious cherry Bellini. Not too sweet, a beautiful color of pink bubbly goodness! Just what the doctor ordered! Husband had a great local IPA out of Brooklyn. When he couldn't decide, he was offered a samples to try. My entree was the best Pasta Bolognese I've had in a very long time! I'm an Italian and it transcended me back to childhood in my mother's kitchen! The rich abundant meat flavor blended perfectly with the spiced tomato sauce! It was a truly delicious dish ladled over the cooked just right al dente pasta! Deliciousness at 100% ! I highly recommend it! Husband had the huge, thick cut , bone in pork chop! Unbelievable flavor! The glaze was deliciously savory with hidden tastes of sweet Asian over perfectly charred cut up sweet potatoes and sticky rice on the side. Both our dinners portions were very large offering plenty for another meal at home. This was our fourth visit to the restaurant . Next time we are traveling up here to Poughkeepsie for work from Boston area we will certainly return! Each visit gets better and better! Worth it? Mostly, yes! Food: 4/5 We tried a little bit of everything, the Seared chicken breast - Hands down my favorite dish of the night. Perfectly cooked, well-seasoned, and flavorful. Followed by the Bacon, egg, and homemade biscuit - A close second! The biscuit was dense and satisfying, and it had a really unique pesto-like sauce on top that made it memorable. Some other shout outs: 1) Orecchiette veggie pasta - Orecchiette is hard to find on menus, so I was delighted to see it here. It was a nice light option among our heavier dishes. 2) Jerk ribs - OK, so this is where my expectations and reality didn't fully align. They were well-cooked, but I'm a saucy girl, and these weren't as slathered or juicy as I'd hoped. That said, the rest of my table really enjoyed them. Also, that hibiscus lemonade? Chef's kiss. Refreshing and flavorful, and exactly the kind of detail that makes a place stand out to me. Service: 4/5 Now, here's where I was really surprised: one person was running the whole show. The head chef was managing the kitchen and the front of house--no servers, no extra help. Just him. For the amount of work that entails, he crushed it. Was it a bit slower than a staffed restaurant? Of course. But honestly, it gave the whole experience a humble, homegrown vibe that I appreciated. Also, it meant a lot to support a Black-owned restaurant and actually connect with the person behind the food. Final Thoughts: While we came for dinner, I could tell from the menu (and the vibe) that this place is really known for brunch. I'm genuinely curious to come back during brunch hours to see how the energy--and menu--might shift. Either way, it's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area and looking for a spot with heart, flavor, and soul.

We were told by the ladies at the front door that they have heat lamps, to our surprise they did not. It was freezing cold upstairs! As soon as we arrived on the rooftop the lady at the rooftop entrance rudely asked us if we were sure we had a reservation even after we heard her receive a page on a walkie talkie that said a reservation of a party of 9 was just sent upstairs. We confirmed yes we did have a reservation even though half of upstairs was empty. She gave us two tables and we asked if it was possible to get one more table since we were very squished. She did not want to give us a third table, however a gentleman who worked there told her to just give it to us... since it was half empty upstairs. She then followed to have an attitude and threw the drinks from the neighboring table on the floor to clear the table... I don't know if this is common there to throw half drank drinks on the turf, but it felt very rude and disrespectful. We felt unwelcome by the staff and ended up deciding to leave. We are very disappointed in this restaurant that our graduate from Marist University raved about and wanted to spend her graduation dinner at. Never again will we give this establishment our business. To make it worst, as we walked out she had the audacity to say "have a good night" in a snarky tone.

I did come at an in-between time (around 3pm), so it's possible that this was a one-off, but it was so meh that I'm not sure I'll be back to give it another shot (if I do, I'll come right at lunch or dinner time). The good: the mole was fantastic! Even with a mediocre meal, this stood out as amazing. The portions were generous. I thought at one point the woman asked if I wanted chicken or beef enchiladas, and having never had beef enchiladas I said "beef please." It turns out, I received chicken enchiladas with a portion of skirt steak on top (see photo). Again, very generous. The decor was lively. The misses: The beans were quite bland, to the point where I was surprised...it's such a foundational element of Mexican cuisine, but they needed more spices / a touch more salt. Also, my wife ordered the veggie wrap and it was bland. It contained lots of different vegetables, but somehow they weren't seasoned. I know vegetarian burritos aren't all the craze, but when I took a bite of it, I agreed...it was just vegetables, no seasoning at all. Nice to have it on the menu for folks like my wife, but why not season them first? Maybe it was an oversight. The horchata was different from what I've had in the past...not bad, but not something I would recommend either. It was watery, lacked any cinnamon flavor, and had ground almond on top, which was interesting (maybe this is regional?). Without the dynamite mole and the generous portions, this would be a 2 star review, but I can't, in good conscience, give less than 3 stars with mole like that. But the beans...womp womp.
