I passed by this cafe a few weeks ago and decided to check out the website. The website shared that they offer cat yoga in which I immediately signed up for. The price was under $30 for an 1 hr and 15 minute session. Yoga and a beverage such as coffee, mimosa, or tea was offered after class. The instructor and staff were super friendly and it was such a welcoming environment. The cats are all up for adoption so it was such a great experience to interact and see their personalities. 'Cafe' is a biggg stretch of the word here. It was a fun experience making reservations online for 1hr to play with the cats. The inside doesn't smell the best, which staff voluntarily admitted was not normal. The 'cafe' is in the back separate from the cats. It's truly not a cafe. They have all the same drinks that would be offered a a doctors office or church lobby (hot/cold coffee, hot/iced tea, hot chocolate. Etc). They also have wine. This is not a coffee shop with espresso drinks. This is a very cat-forward experience. The furniture is verryyy cheap and clearly came from Amazon which was fine for no more than a one hour experience. The cats were friendly and so was the staff. I have not owned a cat in a long time. I miss having one, but I don't miss the fur it would leave behind. That was the main reason for coming in. You pay for either 30 minutes or a full hour. Thirty minutes and a drink from the bar (which is a large, cat-free room) that you can bring into the main room were all I needed. The place is super clean. (Not counting the cat toys all over), and there isn't a hint of smell anywhere. Most of the furry friends were completely passed out when I was there, but even with that, it was still enjoyable. Part of the fun was just finding where they were hiding while catching a snooze. They have packaged snacks in the barroom, but I'm not sure why you would come here hungry. The surprise was asking about the cats' stay here. At least for the ones in front of me at the time, they were only here a week, and most of them are in the process of being adopted. Meaning this place seems to be super successful as a midway point for finding new homes for them as they are taken out of shelters. To me, that was worth the price of admission in itself. read more

Absolutely in love with this place, the atmosphere, their mission, everything. They are one of the top places in the country I think for cat adoptions. In my visit to Charleston I went there all four days I was visiting. The vibes are excellent! It's so much fun and so healing to be surrounded by the cats. The staff is also very nice, especially Emily who chatted with me about everything they do including providing cat food for income insecure cat owners. Came here on a Tuesday with a reservation. You can reserve online for an hour for $17 which includes a non-alcoholic drink. You can buy alcoholic drinks there. You can also walk in and get a 30 minute session for $12 if space is available, drink not included. There were only 4 cats there since some had been adopted, but they can hold up to 17. We took our fifteen year old kiddo for their birthday on a Saturday evening, and we all enjoyed our time at Pounce, even though my husband and I are allergic to cats! Making a reservation online was super easy, and we arrived a bit early for our time slot. We were given little tickets for a nonalcoholic beverage at the bar, included in the price of admission. The bar also has a small selection of beer and wine for a few dollars extra if you are so inclined. After grabbing our drinks, we hung out and got to pet and play with some kitties for about an hour. I think there were two other people in the café in our time slot, so there were plenty of cats to go around - I believe I counted eight or nine. I love that the cats in residence at Pounce are up for adoption and that the café owner(s) is collaborating with local animal shelters to get more cats adopted. The space was plenty big for cats and patrons alike, and was very clean and cozy. The employees were friendly and helpful and really seemed to love their jobs. I'm a little belated posting my review of Pounce Cat Cafe, as I visited on my birthday in late May. I hope by now that all the kitties who were present at that time have found homes. They were all so deserving! I love that they average 1-2 adoptions daily. I am a huge cat lady and was on vacation in Charleston, so Pounce popped onto my radar right off the bat. My friend and I booked a reservation to visit in the afternoon after lunch and spent an hour with the cats plus received drinks as part of our purchase. We both chose the rose. The cats were so friendly and snuggly. I wanted to take them all home, preferably. I had great fun hanging out with them. The space itself is warm and inviting, with lots of enrichment options for the kitties. They also sell merch. My friend purchased a tshirt for me for my birthday, which I happen to be wearing right now as I write this!! If it wasn't clear already, I am a big fan of Pounce and all the work they do to find sweet baby cats their proper homes. Highly recommend checking them out! read more

This was honestly my favorite thing I did in South Carolina! I love all animals. I spent about $12 per person for 30 minutes of play time with the cats. They also had an option that was $17 per person for an hour, plus you would get a drink. Either way, it was a great deal! All the cats are up for adoption and they get in new cats all the time. According to a sign in their place, they already adopted out over 2,000 cats. All the staff is so sweet and friendly as well as very knowledgable! You can pay for the amount of time there and if you pay I think it was for an hour you get a voucher for a drink from the back which was cool. I had a glass of wine while I spent time with the cats. A fun experience for my wife and I yesterday. Reserved an hour to play with cats and upped the ante with a date night special and cat treats. The date night special is a pastry to share and a bottle of house wine, also to share, which we did. There seemed to be about a dozen cats in the area, mostly sleeping because that's what cats do. Several were friendly, but others were feisty. We were there later in the day, so maybe by that point they had just had enough. Or maybe it's just because cats are a-holes on the regular. Still love them though. Walk-in traffic appeared to be welcomed, but several had to wait for a later time slot so that the cafe didn't get too full. Every person in there was just happy and relaxed and smiling the entire time. If you're looking to adopt, this is a great option. Even in just an hour you can really get to know the temperament and personality of some of the cats. Some are more snuggly, others more playful, and of course there are some that are a bit more spicy. They partner with local shelters, and the people there are amazing to talk to about each cat, and how long they've been there and what they're like. We actually ended up going in twice during our stay in Charleston, and the second time decided to go with the 'Cat Whisperer' package. If you really want to make sure you get a few cats interacting with you, or in your lap, then they give you a little bit of treats and catnip. It's still a great time without it, and there are toys and things all around to play with for everyone to use. Be careful though, it's gonna be hard to leave without wanting to bring one home with you. read more

I didn't even realize there were litter boxes around me because they are hidden and kept clean. The cats were so adorable! Most of the cats are super chill but one in particular took a shining to me. Winnie hung out with me most of the time. Such a sweet kitty. Both were delicious and made the experience all the more special. We were able to hang out with several friendly cats that let us pet them and snuggle them. I'm not even sure how to rate this crazy experience. There was one cat being a butt munch, but other than that, 5 stars for all the other kitties. I was on my way to my lunch reservation when I saw Pounce Cat Cafe. It was closed at the time but I peeked in and saw a bunch of cats lazily laying around like they owned the place. I instantly had an urge to bust in and play with the cats. "No, Lily F.", I told myself. "You're allergic to cats. Also, you don't like cats. Dogs are way better." Two hours later, I'm drinking wine from a plastic cup and using my best baby voice to encourage a really chunky cat to come out from under the cabinet. All adoptable and adorable, the cats are literally just walking around the room while filled with toys and strangers from all over trying to pet them. Ko-Ko the cat was by far the best. My daughter and I wanted a relaxing afternoon and to pet cats. I made my reservation that morning online easily and thankfully there was an opening. When we arrived we were shown to the back to be offered the light bakery items and bar. We had just eaten lunch so we didn't eat any of the great looking baked items but we did have a light cocktail and coffee. After given our instructions we were then able to go enjoy some animal therapy. The cats are given a great cat appropriate room. Risers on the wall to climb up to the ceiling, great couches they can sleep in the sun and maybe share with humans. Scratchers, boxes and beds and other toys The room was so clean and you would think you would see cat hair everywhere, this was not the case. I recommend highly to plan a visit if you are thinking about adopting a cat. You get to spend quality quiet time and choose the one that best suits your personality and desires. This was a very fun experience! It's definitely one of those situations where you should expect to just chill and vibe with the cats. Most of them didn't seem the most interested in playing with their toys as they preferred napping or eating. One toy that really got them excited, however, was the wire toy that had brown paper-like pieces at the end. A worker recommended it to me when I asked her about it, and boy did the cats go crazy for that thing. One especially, named Snuggles, was doing high jumps and flips trying to get it ! So adorable. I would've loved to adopt one but unfortunately we couldn't as we live in California and didn't have the means to be able to. This is a very fun experience. You get many cats, some cat treats, catnip, and a cat toy. You also get a non alcoholic drink included or a glass of wine for 5 bucks more. Price without the wine is 17 bucks for an hour. The kitties are all shelter boys and girls and up for adoption. There were lots of playful kitties to spend time with. The check in was organized as well. We did pay for the treats, catnip and toy. I would recommend doing that earlier in the day. I so love this idea of combining a rescue organization with a cafe and wine bar! Not only can you enjoy the company of free roaming cats in need of a permanent furever home, but the human can enjoy the cuddles along with a light meal, tea, coffee, or a nice glass of wine! The cafe was fully booked during my stay, so couldn't rate the actual food, but the idea is purrfect! I spoke with two customers leaving and they were return customers. They attend college nearby and can't have animals in the dorms and miss their pets. Solution, cuddle time here and some coffee, while they study. Was SO EXCITED to stumble upon this place when visiting Charleston from NYC and missing my cat terribly. It was a delight to be walking home at night and seeing the cats looking back at us in the window. I immediately made a reservation for the next day. The deal with reservations is great, while your money goes to a good cause, it also gets you a free non-alcoholic beverage or a reduced price alcoholic one. Bonus points for future drinks if you are there during Happy Meower. We also splurged for the cat whisperer package to get a wand, catnip, and treats. The only bad thing with this is we were stealing the cats from other people! The cats all had their own personalities and this cafe helps get cats adopted much quicker. One thing that might be tough for potential adopters is seeing past the behavioral patterns the cats have developed living together, often getting grumbly at one another to claim territory or treats for themselves. I'm not even what you would call a "cat person". I don't dislike them but I'm definitely a "dog person" when it comes down to it. My friend had his mom in town and was making a plan to go so a few of us tagged along and made a reservation for 6. It was fifteen bucks a piece and that gets you a drink plus an hour in the cat area. If you'd like to stop in and hang out for a drink, you're welcome to do so in the back and you can view the cat room from there. To go in the cat room I believe you need a reservation. I grabbed a beer and went in to hang with the felines. There was about eight cats roaming around and a bunch of toys/posts for them to play with. They even have laser pointers and treats they give you to get the attention of your new furry friends. It's just like any other bar where everyone is fighting for the attention of a fine piece of tail. Although you can't hate on this place because the whole thing is for a good cause. All the cats are adaptable and they keep a count of how many they've adopted out to the community. Top notch idea to help animals. I'm a fan! read more

Why 5 stars? Because how could anyone hate coffee and cats? --- --- --- I recently went to Tokyo and experienced my first cat cafe (as one does in Tokyo.) A couple of months before that, I actually attempted to visit Pounce, but they were super booked up on their reservations. Fortunately, they still allowed me to grab a coffee from the back, but it was such a tease to walk through the cat area without any petting! On this trip to Charleston, I was sure to get my reservation booked in advance. While my lifetime tally of cat cafes is only two, Pounce is definitely my favorite. In Tokyo, the cats mostly wanted nothing to do with us, but here, they were quite affectionate. What's the point of a cat cafe when cats just want to play hard to get the whole time? At Pounce, apparently they did a much better job at finding cats that get enough attention. Not only are the cats here friendly, but the people are great too! This is the best place I've ever been to. Even if you don't enjoy cats you will love this place. I was talking to another customer and she said it was like therapy and I couldn't describe it better. Drinks are reasonably priced and any money you spend here goes to helping the cats or paying the employees wage so it makes me feel good coming here.
