I have found that Sainsburys is one of the more expensive supermarkets but they do have some good deals on sometimes. I have a baby and they do good deals on baby products from time to time so I always stock up then!

Like the Sweet Mart in Easton this is a store that is all about the customer. They buy in only the best quality fruit and vegetables, for example, and sell it at reasonable and affordable prices. It's all organic and locally sourced where possible - stocked full of love and good energy. The Asian food section is immense with every type of spice and raw bean imaginable. It's a good place too to find adverts and posters for local and ethical happenings. A great store that comes highly recommended.

At Aldi it's a simple turn up, get your food and leave sort of deal - and I'm rather fond of it. I'm also rather fond of the European chocolate selection or the bizarre sweets that I assume never leave your digestive system. I'm equally fascinated by the many jars of pickles - shaking them around and wondering what vegetable they've pickled today. The fresh fruit and veg section, admittedly, is something to be avoided but they also sell clothes! Cheap tacky clothes, but clothes none the less. Thus many many reasons to visit this humble supermarket.

I have no idea how they manage it, but they always seem to have exactly what's needed on any given day. For instance, when the snow started falling, I ventured into Aldi to find a pair of snow boots and a ski jacket! Perfect. If it's raining you're bound to find a load of umbrellas and raincoats and if it's sunny there will no doubt be stacks of flip-flops and sunglasses awaiting you. It's truly ingenious. Apart from the weather related apparel, they also have some really random stuff in here, so if you're on the look out for a travel pillow, boiler suit, or badminton set, then it's worth checking out. You never know - you might get lucky.

The store does get very very busy, but as it's next to Ikea and the Eastgate Centre it's not surprising that people want to combine trips. There is often a long queue to even get in to the centre at busy times. The store itself is well stocked and the staff are helpful. It can sometimes seem a little untidy, especially in the clothing area, but it's probably inevitable at busy times of day. The car park could be a little bigger, but otherwise it's a good place to grocery shop. It's also accessible by a bus route.

ASDA Frome has a bit of everything and lots of what you'd expect. A fresh fish counter, a delicatessen, even a pizza-making section where you can custom-pick your design (and they're good pizzas, too!). Backing all this up are friendly, helpful staff and great prices. Loads of free on-site parking and open until 11pm every weekday. What a winner.

Asda in Frome has been open for a few years now, and it's been a massive success. This inexpensive…read moresuperstore is large and packed with everything you'd expect and need from a major retailer. Large car-park so seldom any queuing even on the busiest of days, and cashpoints for the terminally broke! The store iteslef covers clothes for women, men, and younger kids (not for teenage boys though, please note). The bakery turns out wonderful loaves, the wine section is extensive, and the rest is perfect for an all-in weekly shop. The aisles are wide and so you don't get trolley snarl-ups (often!). The staff are unfailingly helpful, although it's sometimes hard to catch one standing still long enough to ask a question of! But they will always go the extra mile to check if there is extra stock out back, so you feel valued. Prices are good all across the board, and their Own Brand and Value items make for good savings. The only (small) criticism is the location, or rather to lack of public transport to get to it. Right out on the edge of town is fine for driving but if you don't have your own transport then it can be expensive to get a cab there and back (which you will certainly need for a weekly shop). Although there is a bus service that runs to and from the store from the market place it's not regular enough to be really convenient (or memorable - and nobody wants to sit around the town centre for up to an hour waiting for a bus). But all that aside, it's a great store for getting everything under one roof if you need items of kids clothing and shoes as well as gifts and/or electrical and household goods when you do a big weekly foodshop. Note that there is a self-service petrol station next to the supermarket so you can even fill up your tank for a competitive amount as well.

The store inself is quite big you can buy books, dvd's, clothes, toys, tv's, electricals as well as groceries. I don't think there is as much choice or variety as the old store had but there is a lot of extra stuff like non grocery items that there weren't before. The queues are always supprisingly short in this tesco store there are a lot of tills and self scans to use. The help dest is inside the store rather than near the door which is a bit of a pain it is like a one way system so it is annoying to have to do another lap to get to customer services. The Tesco also has a garage where you can buy some items such as sweets, milk, rolls, car stuff and snacks. I like this store but the car park stresses me out!!

Drivers entering and leaving the store were harassed into drinking free samples of regular beer and cider in a sales push. The floor of Tesco was filthy with mud and earth on this date. Tesco management and the authorities who gave the alcohol licence should be thrown out of the EU because in my opinion they are insane.

But with Dani closed I gave orients market a shot. It is a decent size shop with a row a freezers in the middle that are filled with dumplings, frozen seafood and other stuff that I'm yet to discover. On either side of the shop they have rows of metal shelves full of instant noodles, sauces, spices and other Asian ingredients to that you'd expect to find. It is really well stocked. The women working there was very helpful when I was trying to choose the right dumplings and also helped me pick a really nice light soy sauce. She even gave me a fortune cookie when I paid for my stuff! I'll be paying this place more attention when doing my Asian shipping from now on

It's got a large car-park, and although it is not as conveniently and centrally located as Somerfield, it's a better (and larger) store in my view. Repeated attempts to expand it have met with refusal by local planners, and the main competition is now a very large Asda in nearby Highbridge, 5 minutes away by car along the A38. Where you ultimately decide to shop depends on your brand loyalty, I guess. As well as the usual groceries, it has a fresh meat counter and service include customer toilets (with baby-changing facilities), a recycling point and a cash dispenser.

This store underwent a very large (almost doubled in size) expansion and refurbishment in 2012. This lighter, more modern feeling store now provides Burnham with what I'd consider the best all round grocery shopping experience in the town: a wide range of products at reasonable prices that are well stocked and displayed with a friendly, helpful team of staff who try their best to ensure your visit is as pain free as possible.

The range is better than most supermarkets, with things like rhubarb and celariac making guest appearances. The staff are friendly, and give a real community to the place. I know its just veg we're talking about, but this is refreshing after a visit to Tesco. Go here to support an independent and get some soul with your veg.

The prices are much lower than in the supermarket and being in Clifton Village there isn't really much of a 'supermarket' to shop in anyway. Anybody who has lived here will tell you how glad this independent fruit & veg shop is here. Perfect for grabbing some strawberries and sitting in Victoria Square on those lazy lunch breaks. Everything they sell is tasty, you can tell they're experts, from the chillies to the melons, they also put their stock out in front of the shop, which creates this beautiful outside market stall effect with the large outside cafe next door. They sell pot plants and fresh locally made apple juice with your choice of rhubarb or ginger to name a couple of combinations.

The supermarket is so big that they have built a whole 'town centre', which incorporates various stand-alone shops including Carphone Warehouse, O2, a hairdressers, a Shoe Zone, and food stores including KFC, Greggs and a Costa Coffee. Each of the stand-alone stores is relatively small and totally dwarfed by the Tesco itself, which has to be the biggest I've ever seen. It's split across two floors and will sell you everything from Dulux paint to halloween masks to iPods to dishwashers to hardback books to ready-roasted chickens to photo albums. The aisle arrangement is a bit disorientating at first, and certain items are now where you might normally have expected them to be- the fruit & veg isn't at the front of the store, the bread is tucked away in one corner. Some of the aisles don't line up which I think is a design flaw as it means there isn't one obvious path around the store, resulting in lots of colliding trolleys in busy periods. Unlike some people I have nothing against Tesco and it's going to be convenient for people in Bradley Stoke to have so much readily available to buy there. It isn't always the cheapest supermarket for all items but it's very competitive and does the job.
