I came here last November as part of an Earthwatch expedition. We were well taken care of by Mr. Mario and his family. That included 3 square meals a day (consistent with our flexible schedule), comfortable rooms, lots of hot water, a pool, and even laundry service on our day off. Alcohol was available for purchase and as are some nice local souvenirs.
My only downside was that I wasn't as dilligent as I should have been with my deet and the mosquitos. The Brazilian version of these little guys are quick and effective, especially to this fair skinned Iowan. It's nothing a little cream didn't take care of treatment wise, but I was still itching those bumps well into my trip to Iceland the next month.
We were their to study birds on Mr. Mario's extensive property and next to a National Park. We were there to work, so we really only had 1 free day to explore greater Blumenau. But I'll have to say that this was that in terms of co-workers, the Pousada, and the family atmosphere, this was one of the most pleasurable stays I've ever had. read more
