FREE PARKING -- Parking downtown is a pain so I'm happy that BrownsFit gym validates parking tickets at the attached garage. You won't pay for parking which is awesome. MEMBERSHIP -- I have a corporate membership which means I have a slight discount based on where I work. Membership is month to month (no contract) so if you want to cancel, tell them 10 days before your next gym payment is due and they will cancel your membership. WHAT YOU GET -- They offer group fitness classes (which are included in the membership price), they have cardio equipment such as ellipticals, treadmills, and bikes. They have dumbbells and barbells for those who enjoy lifting weights. There are male and female changing rooms with showers and toilets. *My FAVOURITE machine to use so far has been the Jacobs Ladder. I had never know about this cardio equipment until joining BrownsFit. It is intense and you only need 3 mins to feel the BURN. The Saturday morning BOOTCAMP classes are intense but really good. FREE MASSAGES -- Members can use a massage chair (3 are available) for 10 minutes without any extra charge. I enjoy using the massage chair after a good workout. LAYOUT -- The main floor is huge and has all the cardio and weight equipments. There are TV's lined up on the wall by the windows. They also have 2 fitness exercise rooms at the back of the gym where all the group fitness classes are held. One of the rooms has the spin bikes in them laid out at the back of the wall but there is still space in the room to do your own workout. I'm happy the bikes don't take up the whole room. This room also has weights and other equipment in the corner. Bootcamp classes, yoga, etc, are held in this room. The other fitness group class room is smaller and has equipment in it such as weights, ropes, yoga mats, etc. I love using the group exercise class rooms for my workouts when if there are no fitness classes scheduled. Overall, I would recommend Browns Fit gym. The corporate membership is less than $50 a month and I believe regular membership is under $60/month. It was just too intimidating I guess. But this gym helped me overcome all of that. A continually spreading midsection and my making it into my 50s made me realize I had to do something. Several of my athlete idols had "found" Crossfit and preached the virtues. They loved it after having done all kinds of workouts. My friend attend one of the free Saturday workout and found out that an "Executive" beginner class was starting the following week so we started together. The Executive class is a group of 5-8 people three days a week. Staci will guide you thru the work out of the day, (WOD) all the workout lingo and help you do the workout routines with good form. If you have a particular problem doing any exercise, they modify it for your ability. You "compete" against the people in your group at times, so having a good group and a good group dynamic is important. Having some friends there in the beginning with me helped. There is a lot of encouragement and camaraderie and I never felt like I was being talked down to. Just because someone younger or who had been doing it longer could do more or do it faster, it was ok.

This is not a walk in facility. Appointments are necessary. One on one sessions are customized to your own levels and abilities. The Owner Adam is caring and has created an environment where anyone with anxiety about being out of shape can be set at ease. When you schedule a one on one session Adam will determine your needs and then he will create a workout plan for you. Both Adam and his other trainer Will are Extremely knowledgeable. They both go out of their way to ensure they modify the session if you develop any pain or issues mid work out. I feel like I am in good hands and they offer suggestions to keep you moving even when you are not in a session. The facility is clean and very nice and accommodating. I highly recommend giving them a try if you want or need to get back in shape. They also offer Yoga sessions on site.

The decision to join Ctown was the best thing to happen to me in my time there. I had not done crossfit before and had been a lifelong in and out of the gym kind of guy. Never fully committing for longer than a few months at a time. From the minute I walked in and met Larry the owner, I knew my life was about to change. Ctown focuses on form first and foremost and under the leadership of head coach R.E. has built a solid reputation and family like atmosphere that was more welcoming than I could ever imagine. The group sizes varied, but even at its largest of 15 you still got individualized attention from the coaches throughout the workout. Being new, I was worried about not being able to keep up with the workouts, but scalability is also important to Ctown. The coaches offered modifications for almost every workout, still pushing you to try and complete it as prescribed. I was only there for a few months, but got into the best shape of my life and was driven by not only the coaches, but my fellow athletes. Yes, you do truly feel like an athlete, no matter how you look. There's no egos at Ctown, everyone is in it together and you build a great comradery that is driven by the caring personalities of the coaches who drive and inspire you as you go. I met lifelong friends in only a few months, got into the best shape of my life and never felt like I was part of a "cult" like atmosphere like some skeptics of crossfit would say. I owe R.E., Larry and the team at Ctown much gratitude for taking in a new kid in town and turning out a dedicated, more motivated and better individual in the end. Their head coach was very inviting, greeting me immediately and had a great background in crossfit and powerlifting. Their box was very clean, had the newest equipment and a very fun and welcoming community. I'd definitely recommend this box, whether your a seasoned crossfitter or new to crossfit as they will be more than willing to work with you where you're at. So happy I picked this gym.

But Rachel was very nice and gave great instructions for a beginner. The class was challenging but not impossible with a lot of alternate posses for a non flexible, no balance, and out of shape person. Instead of what I thought would be gongs and elevator music in the background, I was serenely lured into a zen like state by the boss, u2, and other classics. I didn't levitate but I'm thinking maybe next time. If you are looking for a fun class, with an instructor truly looking to help people I recommend this class. I am not really sure how these classes are suppose to go but I had fun and can definitely feel it the next day.

I explored my options and realized that I would like something between one on one training sessions and large group classes. I had a friend refer me over to Functional Fitness and I have been extremely please with it ever since day one (mind you I'm only a few weeks in). The classes I've taken range from small to medium sized, so it's still personal enough that Jermail or Justin are able to correct you if you are making a mistake and notice improvements. It's a great 45 minute workout and I would recommend it to anyone. If I could tell anyone looking into this gym one thing, it would be that when you go to drive and find it, it's in the back of the Warren Plaza, next to Anytime Fitness. There is a metal door with a magnet/sign on it. Hard to miss the first time you go.
