Entry into the museum is free but you will have to pay at the gate to enter the park where the iconic Pemaquid Lighthouse and museum is housed. The Museum is housed in the Lighthouse Keepers House on the ground floor by the lighthouse and focused on preserving the fishing and marine heritage of the Bristol area with displays, models, dioramas and photographs. The museum is small and can be seen in less than an hour. One of the highlights of the collection is the GIANT lobster that was caught in the area. That alone is worth visiting the museum to see.

And I wanted good food and a bit of company, without feeling overcommitted. Lo and behold, this is exactly what Tops'l Farm provides! With a gorgeous farm setting in Waldoboro, Tops'l is run by Sarah and Josh Pike, where you can do any of the following: * host a glorious event (think gorgeous weddings or reunions) * camp out in an adorable cabins--but think glamping with comfortable beds and a central kitchen/wash house with fire pits and picnic tables, and thoughtful touches like thermoses, coffee and tea, and games * stay in cushier accommodations in a farmhouse and a cider house if you want * take advantage of whatever's on at the event barn, where there are happy hours, seasonal dinners, and yoga classes * wander anywhere on the 80 acres with gorgeous paths through fields and woods and to the river, and spend time with the very friendly sheep and pigs * schedule a massage with one of their AMAZING affiliated practitioners All of the above varies depending on what's scheduled for a particular week--and I was lucky enough to take part in a September retreat called a "Petite Pause," which the owner Sarah has devised as brief 2- to 3-day retreats for women. It's almost impossible to describe how beautifully this was thought out and how restorative it was, even in such a short time--and how the dozen or so of us there bonded (some with friends; others, like myself, on my own). The retreat included morning yoga sessions and a wonderful breakfast; we then had the days to roam and explore, have massages, enjoy the outdoor wood-burning sauna and hot tub, participate in one of the featured workshops (we had jam-making and a human design class), or just . . . relax. We then all met up again for drinks and dinner--the chef features delicious local ingredients, lots from Tops'l's own garden--and enjoyed big fires outside before bedtime. None of this felt rushed or overscheduled (you can participate to the extent you prefer); somehow, the couple of days felt like much much more. I can't recommend the experience highly enough. I'm looking forward to seeing what Tops'l offers for 2024! This is a special place with owners who have worked to create something new while lovingly honoring and restoring the old, and truly showcasing the best of the simple pleasures Maine has to offer.

It is a cute building and cannon on High street with a little park with grass around it. Parking is on the street. It is really quaint and adorable. It will not take you too long to look around, but it is worth a trek. Great views from the top of hill. Beautifully scenic and historical. A step back in time when you are there.

The farm is such a beautiful sight to take in. The farm is run by Anil & Kelly who are so friendly and you can tell they have such a strong passion and love for farming, goats, and the land the farm sits on. We started off with Kelly telling us about the history of the land/farm located here including before them it was a farm passed down through 6 generations. She has even wrote a book documenting the history of the family before called "Birth, Death, and a Tractor: Connecting an Old Farm to a New Family". After the history she described the goats and many products they create through the milking process and we could even sample some of milk and a variety of cheeses. After this fantastic history of the farm we went down to see the current goat kids they have (20 of them). All so cute and ready for attention and scratches. Once it hit time we were able to go on a hike/walk with everyone interested and the kid goats following along jumping with excitement. Each goat had a tag with their name and all of them had so much personality. Amazing place to visit if you want to spend time with goats! They had some vendors at the farm including some food options too for drinks or food after the walk/hike. Lastly we went inside where the goats are milked (milking parlor) and they had a replaying video explaining the process. You can even find it on YouTube it is very informative! Loved visiting and getting to see and play with the goats but also hear the history and see the passion that Anil & Kelly have in running this farm. My friends and I visited this farm for Open Creamery Day. The cheese was delicious. They gave us a…read moretour of the farm showing their ornate, beautiful pumpkins and where they make their tasty cheeses. We also saw their spacious barn and fields. My friends and I sat on top of a small hill overlooking the farm for about 20 minutes and just enjoyed the fall colors, green fields, the brook and pond. It is a gorgeous farm. The two owners have advanced degrees in agriculture.

You can find the Olson House at 427 Hathorne Point Rd, Cushing, ME 04563. There's some limited…read moreparking behind the apple orchard but presumably you can also park along the access roads. This is a residential neighborhood so please be respectful. If you aren't an art historian you may wonder why the Olson House is worth visiting? The key is Andrew Wyeth - who painted many scenes of the house, the family and local vignettes. One of the most iconic paintings done by an American artist is "Christina's World" which features the building's on the Olson's property. Luckily the property was obtained by the local Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland who has started a much needed restoration (at one point the house was a Wyeth museum but it's fallen to hard times prior to the acquisition). The house sits on multiple acres of land and the property includes several buildings - the house and barn are rendered in the painting. Much of the structures' original pigment gave way to the elements, apparently during the Depression so it holds a beautiful gray-weathered patina. The primary structure is mostly intact (a chimney has been removed but I believe the plan is to replace it at some point). As you walk around you can get a sense of the home from when Wyeth rendered the painting. You can walk around the property but be aware that if you try to view the buildings using Wyeth's painting's perspective, you'll be in a field that's private property not owned by the Farnsworth. We took a chance and walked out which I think is okay as long as you're not loud or disrespectful. Also in the field is the cemetery where Andrew and Betsy Wyeth are prominently resting - towards the water in the rear there's a headstone for Christina and her brother Alvero. There are several markers around the property identifying points of interest as well as color and restoration studies. I also spied some hops growing between the main building and boat house (I believe it's the kitchen) - I'm betting that at some point there was some homebrew being made, possibly by Alvero. In all, a great place to visit, especially prior to going to the Farnsworth as it provides a lot of context. Kudos to the museum for preserving this property!

Our morning on the Wyeth Experience tour was well worth $50. Six of us began the tour with Nancy at…read morethe Farnsworth and got background on several paintings by the three Wyeths. Then a half hour van ride driven by delightful David to the Olson House while Nancy shaed stories en route. Throughout the tour Nancy overflowed with history and stories gleaned from 30 years working at Olson House. The spare house is a wonder, and we loved wandering through each room with its beautiful light, all three floors. we even jogged down to the little cemetery where Andrew, Christina Olson, and others are buried.

Just wanted to confirm that this is easily one of the best fairs in Maine. I spent a number of…read moreyears in the late 70s and early 80s showing cows as a member of 4H. I have strong and nostalgic feelings of the positive impact that experience had on my life. Unfortunately, the youth agricultural experience is dwindling in many fairs. This is definitely not the case at the Windsor Fair. I was so thrilled to see so many youngsters, especially girls, enthusiastically involved in the agricultural exhibits. Can't wait until next year!

The rides are not huge but get the job done. Just get out of the way of anyone looking green! The food ranges from $4 for a slice of wood fired pizza or a small basket of fries to $12 for a basket of chicken nuggets or haddock chunks. Proteins are clearly on the high end. There is also a live animal section featuring 4H and other cute animals.

Free of charge to walk the well mowed 4 foot wide trails. Plenty of parking. The tidal river is easily accessible within a 10 to 15 minute easy stroll from the parking lot. Horseshoe crabs can be seen spawning in June. Plenty of fish fry hatching in July. Great place to wade, but be mindful about disturbing the horseshoe crab grounds where there is sand. Clams can be gathered at low tide. But make sure you get a permit from the county clerk before hand. The daily clam bag limit is generous. Lovely views of the river, tall grasses and wildflowers. There is even an Osprey nest that gets used in Spring through Summer. A magical way to drink in midcoast Maine without a lot of driving and hiking.
