Old fashioned and buttermilk bars are delicious here. Probably one of the best nearby. I'd even say better than the ones at VG Donut and Bakery in Cardiff (which is apparently known for their old fashioned and buttermilk bars). Other donut selections are just fine. First visit at 9:30 on a Tuesday morning. Donut case almost empty. This is a donut shop, isn't it? But almost no donuts!?!? WTF! The lady behind the counter made me wait while she texted on her cell phone-that's good customer service. Maybe I need to come at 6 am?!?! Not gonna happen, PQD. The only real donut shop in San Diego seems to be the Krispy Kreme over on Clairemont Mesa in the Town Square. Their cases are always full, the coffee is fresh & hot and the people aren't texting-they're taking care of customers. Now that I moved back into the neighborhood, I frequent this place on the weekends. I rate donut shops by their sugar donuts and they have a good one. I have tried most of their donuts and I think they are above standard. I usually order a glazed twist. The donut holes are a hit or miss. Don't get the coffee and go early for a better selection. I love me some donuts. They are why I work out so much. Whenever one is put in front of me, I usually inhale it while looking for another one to eat immediately afterwards. The family that owns and runs PQ donuts makes the best I've had. Just because of the simple fact that I never met a donut that I did not lust after, I only come here once a month if that. And just to shake off the psychological chip called guilt for consuming something that is not so healthy, I tell myself as I'm driving there, "This is a nice treat for the kids." Of course, this affirmation is ignoring the fact that two or three of those frickin' delicious things will be devoured by yours truly. I'm sorry PQ Donuts. I really want to like you but I just can't. Yes, I realize donuts are not the healthiest of the choices out there but I can almost feel my arteries clogging up as I take a bite. The donuts tend to be large as indicated however they are just too greasy for my liking. The only reason for the 3rd star is that they do have a good selection to choose from. The staff is friendly enough and there is some limited seating inside however it is usually very warm the times that I've been there. The parking lot is tight as it shares it's immediate lot with the Mexican place in the same building. This shop seems to have some odd hours as well but I guess a donut is a morning thing anyway. read more

Ok... I probably shouldn't stop by this place as often as I do, but these donuts are soooo good, you need to try them and become a PQ Fan! My go-to donuts are Cinnamon Rolls (we call them Snails), Pink Glazed Cake Donuts (we call them Princess), and of course, Glazed Donut Holes ( have to keep the grand dog happy, too!). All of their donuts are so fresh and yummy, that my mouth is watering just thinking about them! Hint: Be sure to bring cash, as they don't accept credit cards. Donut addict that I am, PQ Donuts is my go-to place when I have cash and I don't want to drive all the way to Escondido for Peterson's Donut Corner. This is a hole-in-the-wall shop with small selection (At least when I get there. I go after 8:30 to avoid morning commuter traffic.) but the donuts taste great! I like plain glaze myself so I pick up a few of those or a frosted donut with sprinkles. The cake donuts are decent, but I prefer the traditional kind. Donut holes are a great deal at $1.50/doz. They're plain glaze and great with coffee. This is definitely a small donut shop but there is limited seating and they offer coffee and other drinks. $2.25 for a can of Monster is almost grocery store price, so that's not a bad deal. Price of the donuts themselves is below grocery store and national chain prices. As for service, the employees are friendly enough for the 15-30 seconds I'm in the shop. Excellent donuts. I recently tried PQ donuts and had a chocolate glazed donut and a long chocolate donut. The donuts are nice and light, and have more of a cake like consistency than other donuts I've had. The glaze was light and melted in your mouth. I would like to try some other varieties in the future. read more

Good donuts overall, better than donuts from grocery bakeries. For me, if I were in the area and wanted a decent donut I would stop in. If I am truly craving a great donut i would drive to a handful of other places that are 15 mins more of a drive for me. Escondido has 1 (not the one most people think) I would rate 4stars, and downtown SD has one of the top 10 donut shops in the nation. read more
