Our server was happy to recommend a wonderful local hand-made red wine, of moderate price, that we liked so much we shared two bottles over a leisurely 2-hour dinner, watching the fading light change the facade of the cathedral and listening to the darting swifts screaming their night song until the second course, when they suddenly departed as night fell. Each of our three shared plates were superb -- a bean stew, black rice with cuttlefish, and meatballs -- and if we were staying another night we would happily return to order many other appealing items on the menu. Our server was warmly formal, very attentive, very gracious. When we think of Ávila, we will remember Alcaravea.
